Bridgestone introduced its project to produce current- technology tyres for the Jaguar XJ220; a development it says has been craved by the classic car’s owners for some years. Four months, 17 specs and hundreds of laps later, the prototypes have been produced, evaluated, and tested, and the final tyre has been approved by Bridgestone engineers and XJ220 aficionado Justin Law, who participated in the project.
UK exhaust manufacturer Klarius has posted a series of web training videos to YouTube, explaining the nuances of exhaust design, and such necessities to engines as back pressure. Since back pressure is controlled by the design of the entire exhaust system – including diameter, shape and length of the exhaust and any baffles present in the muffler – Klarius states that detailed design and testing is a necessity. The company manufactures more than two million exhaust systems every year in the UK.

Trelleborg has launched the third episode in its series of 3D animated movies. Designed to appeal to Trelleborg’s agricultural tyre customers and the next generation of farming professionals, the short – titled ‘Space Hops’ – was created using sophisticated 3D animation techniques. In the latest instalment, Trelleborg’s animated cricket character is abducted and finds himself at Trelleborg’s Innovation Space Center. While on board, he assists in the development of the technological features of Trelleborg’s premium radial agricultural tyre. Toyo has unveiled a new YouTube video highlighting its UHP Proxes brand. Featuring two Audi R8 supercars equipped with Toyo’s flagship brand tyres driven by Team Toyo Tires Drift drivers Masato Kawabata and Akinori Utsumi in a variety of close team-drifting manoeuvres, the manufacturer titles the video, ‘Surprising the World’, saying it will “exceed the expectations of any car enthusiast.”
The digital strategy employed by Michelin’s Agricultural Product Line is undergoing a few changes. Explaining the main reasons behind this, the business unit’s digital communication manager Guylaine Drolet shares that the rethink was prompted by two observations.

This week, Michelin launched what it calls a “new brand ecosystem” – the French tyre maker has introduced an entirely redesigned michelin.com site, a worldwide Facebook page and YouTube channel, and a new presence on LinkedIn. The new site is designed to be more accessible and ergonomic while also intuitive and functional; Michelin describes it as “an expression of the brand’s digital promise” that is aligned with its values and the brand’s stated mission of giving “everyone a better way forward.”
Bridgestone has won the ‘Deutscher Mediapreis 2014’ award in Germany for its launch of the Adrenalin RE002 urban sports tyre in 2013. The tyre maker’s ‘Ultimate Experience’ launch event was voted top in the ‘Media Idea of the Year: brand experience/event’ category. The award was received by representatives of international media agency PHD Germany and OMG Fuse, agency for brand staging and social media, on behalf of Bridgestone Europe at the Mediapreis awards ceremony in Munich on 6 March.
The Australian Open has begun in Melbourne, and for the fourth year in a row Maxxis is on board as an official sponsor. It is also the ‘official tyre’ of the Australian Open. Under the terms of its sponsorship deal Maxxis signage is present in Rod Laver Arena (centre court), and the tyre maker is entitled to use the Australian Open logo in marketing materials and promotional activities.

In an ad that is definitely not for the fainthearted – it is preceded by a health warning stating this – Autoway Tires demonstrates the ability of winter tyres to get you out of even the most terrifying scrape.
Former F1 driver Stefano Modena has released a set of winter driving tips in his capacity as Bridgestone test driver, and the tyre maker has also released videos of its winter tyre tests on the company’s YouTube channel. Commenting on the tips, Modena – who is test driver at Bridgestone’s European proving ground – said “it is not only about having the right tyres; the driver’s behaviour is also essential in these conditions as he needs to understand and adapt to different winter hazards. It is therefore essential to not only prepare our vehicle, but also ourselves when the weather gets cold.”
Starco has introduced a further enhancement to its new website, publishing a series of videos about the company and its activities and products. “Continuing to grow and become a global company is exciting, but it also presents many new challenges”, explains Group marketing manager Brian Lorentzen.
US trade association TIA has released “Tire Safety Starts with TPMS,” the second in a series of consumer educational videos slated for 2013.
The video is a 5-minute overview of the safety benefits associated with TPMS and knowing when tires are underinflated.
