The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. will again participate in the Tokyo Auto Salon, this year held 15-17 January at Makuhari Messe. According to the company, the Yokohama exhibit will showcase both the company’s tyres and aluminium wheels, with a particular emphasis on the Advan global flagship brand.
In a statement issued on 29 December 2015, the heads of five major North American tyre manufacturers called for the US government to not only meet the commitments it made in the recent Paris climate change talks, but to “use its economic might to drive strengthened commitments over time and follow through from other countries around the globe.”
Yokohama Rubber’s Salem factory in the USA recently reached two milestones – its 25th anniversary and the production of 80 million tyres. Tetsuro (Tex) Murakami, president of Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Virginia, LLC, described these as “two very significant achievements for Yokohama, particularly in the US.
Yokohama Rubber has announced its development of a simulation technology for multi-objective design exploration of rubber materials. The new technology is said to have been developed to “support innovative thinking about rubber material design.” Yokohama Rubber states an aim of using such innovative thinking to “create tyres that meet the highest standards in areas that normally are at odds with each other, such as low fuel consumption and safety or ultralight weight and high rigidity.”
Hot off the back of beating a four wheel-drive Group N rally car on a Wales Rally GB stage ahead of the event recently, a Yokohama-shod Ariel Nomad has again won critical acclaim from the media. The Nomad scored third in Autocar’s Best Driver’s Car 2015, finishing behind the Ferrari 488 GTB in first and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
This weekend saw the finale of the 2015 Clarkson, Hammond and May Live Tour take place at the O2 Arena in London. Yokohama was there to cheer TV’s most famous presenting trio on as they and a host of stunt drivers performed a series of spectacular displays in Yokohama-shod cars.
Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Virginia has become the latest Yokohama manufacturing plant to be a zero landfill operation. The tyre manufacturer’s US plant, in Salem, Virginia, has recently adopted processes and practices to reduce waste, and as a result “all waste generated at YTMV now goes to non-landfill options such as recycling, reuse or energy recovery,” according to Neil Dalton, Yokohama Corporation of North America director of environmental health and safety.
This year the Macau Grand Prix is taking place for the 62nd time, and for more than half its history Yokohama Rubber has served as exclusive tyre supplier for the Formula 3 race held during the event. The company heads to the Chinese administrative territory as exclusive supplier to the F3 race for the 33rd consecutive year in 2015.
Japanese manufacturer Yokohama’s BluEarth designation, used to denote its most ecologically-sound tyres, is described by the Japanese manufacturer as “far more than simply a product label.” BluEarth demonstrates the company’s commitment to minimising the impact of tyre production and use while providing drivers with the optimum combination of performance and safety.
Messe Essen’s Reifen show will be the epicentre of the global tyre industry from 24 to 27 May 2016. The event organiser has confirmed that the 20 largest tyre manufacturers in the world will be present, including key players such as Bridgestone, Continental, Cooper Tires, Goodyear, Falken Tyre Europe, Hankook, Maxxis, Michelin, Pirelli and Yokohama. The demand for stand space for workshop equipment providers is also growing, according to Messe Essen: Corghi, Rema Tip Top and Snap-on will all be amongst the exhibitors.
The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is to launch the “BluEarth-A AE50 Chelsea FC Edition” featuring the Chelsea Football Club logo on the sidewall. Following the product’s release in Japan on 29 October, the tyre will be launched gradually in Europe, Asia and South America, with approaches varying from country to country. According to Yokohama, the Chelsea tyre will be available in three sizes: 225/45R17 94W, 205/55R16 91V and 195/65R15 91H.
The UK distributor for Yokohama tyres, YHPT, has said it is encouraged by the pace shown by Next Big Step runner Aaron McClure in this year’s BTRDA rally series. A graduate of the Formula 1000 Junior championship and competing as part of a ‘ladder of opportunity’ which is supported at all levels by Yokohama, McClure demonstrated excellent pace in his Group N Mitsubishi Lancer rally car on numerous occasions throughout the season.
Yokohama’s W.Drive V905 winter tyre has followed the strong showing of the Advan Sport summer tyre in the UK’s EVO Magazine tyre test, with a set of strong performances in tests across Europe. In three separate reports, two in Germany and one in Switzerland, the tyre finished among the top ranked products.
Chelsea Ladies FC will support this year’s Tyre Safety Month, raising tyre safety awareness among Britain’s drivers. Having recently lifted an historic ‘Double’, the team has taken time out of its Champions League preparations to encourage motorists to practise #SafeTyreChecks – the key message of October’s month-long tyre safety campaign. The backing from the English Women’s Super League and FA Cup champions extends the support already offered to Tyre Safety Month by Yokohama, Chelsea FC’s Official Shirt Sponsor, and TyreSafe board member.
The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is to participate in the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015, which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan, from 28 October to November 8.
