Yokohama will host the Premier League trophy on its Automechanika Birmingham stand (stand 20D80, Birmingham NEC) as part of its continuing shirt sponsorship of 2016/17 champions Chelsea FC. Visitors to the show on Tuesday 6 June and Wednesday 7 June will have the opportunity to have their photo taken alongside the official Premier League trophy, which appears courtesy of the tyre manufacturer’s partnership with the club.

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. executives have confirmed that the firm’s chairman recently visited Belshina. According to the company, the visit followed earlier meetings with Belarussian managers in Japan. However, Yokohama executives stopped short of confirming joint venture reports and instead issued the following carefully worded statement:
Belarusian OTR tyre manufacturer is reportedly discussing the establishment of a joint venture with Japanese tyremaker Yokohama. According to the local Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA), talks were held during a visit from a delegation of Yokohama’s executives led by chairman and representative member of the board Tadanobu Nagumo. BelTA cited representatives of Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim as its source.

The Japanese tyre manufacturer has enjoyed the benefits of its association with the winners of what it calls the biggest and most prestigious prizes in world club football, with a “big increase” in “brand recognition,” according to David Seward, managing director, Yokohama HPT Ltd. Yokohama’s sponsorship also helped generate some publicity for road safety charity TyreSafe this year, as Chelsea became a member, and displayed the organisation’s messages at Stamford Bridge.

Thanks largely to gains in its tyre business outside Japan and the first-time inclusion of Alliance Tire Group B.V. (ATG) in its consolidated results, Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. performed well in the first quarter of 2017. Net sales increased 14.2 per cent year-on-year to 147.7 billion yen (£1.0 billion), operating income was, at 9.1 billion yen (£61.8 million), 32.0 per cent higher than during the same period a year ago, and profit attributable to owners of parent was up 56.4 per cent to 5.7 billion yen (£38.7 million).
The Yokohama Rubber subsidiary dedicated to motorsports activities will be dissolved on 30 June, the tyre maker announced today. The operations currently handled by Yokohama Motorsports International Co., Ltd. will be transferred to a new internal Motorsports Department that will be established on 1 May.
Yokohama will return to Automechanika Birmingham (6-8 June, Birmingham NEC) for the show’s second year in the UK with three products new to the country. The new patterns, launched in Yokohama’s centenary year, provide new options for the high performance road, SUV, and track day tyre markets. “We’re delighted to be back at Automechanika this year and we have some very exciting new products to present to the UK market,” comments David Seward, managing director of Yokohama HPT.
Although the new generation Mazda CX-5 crossover won’t be available in the UK until the summer, it went on sale in Japan in February. Yokohama Rubber reports it is supplying its Geolandar G98 as an original equipment fitment for models sold in the that market – the tyre is being supplied to Mazda Motor Corporation in size 225/65R17 102V.
According to one Japanese publication, Yokohama Rubber will launch a second car tyre line in Europe this year under the Alliance brand name. The Nikkei Asian Review reports that the Alliance-branded passenger car tyres will be manufactured in Japan and that European retailers – it names the UK, France, Germany and Spain as four target markets – may have stocks of the tyres by May 2017.
The 2017 season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship begins one of its most open and exciting seasons in years according to Yokohama, the exclusive tyre supplier. Returning to classic circuits like Monza and Macao, the 2017 series follows the departure of the dominant Jose Maria Lopez and the retirement as a driver of four-times world champion Yvan Muller. For the fifth consecutive year, Yokohama Tire Corporation has earned Caterpillar’s premier supplier award: the Platinum Level Recertification in its Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). The award went to Yokohama’s factory in Onomichi, Japan, which produces OE and replacement off-the-road (OTR) tyres for a wide range of equipment.
The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced on 15 March that it completed the acquisition of Aichi Tire Industry Co., Ltd. (Aichi Tire Industry). Yokohama first announced the agreement to acquire Aichi Tire Industry on 6 January 2017.
