Tyres & Accessories interviews new Nokian Tyres CEO, Paolo Pompei

Paolo Pompei officially took over as chief executive officer (CEO) of Nokian Tyres Plc on 1 January 2025. With a distinguished career spanning decades in the tyre business including leadership positions at Yokohama TWS, Trelleborg Group, and Pirelli, Pompei brings a wealth of international expertise and a proven track record of driving growth and innovation. Since taking over at Nokian, production at the company’s landmark zero-emission Romania factory has got underway. And – as of the week prior to our exclusive interview – in early April, deliveries began.

Mitas launches Agriterra Ultra agricultural trailer tyre

Mitas has launched its new trailer tyre range, the Agriterra Ultra. The tyre has been developed for a wide range of applications, including trailers, loading and transport vehicles, spreaders, and slurry tankers, The tyre has been engineered for performance and durability, supported by a new structure. The Agriterra Ultra will be available in a range of key sizes during the course of the year, starting from size 560/60R22.5TL IMP 165D. Yokohama TWS adds that the range will feature a VF version of the tyre, enhanced for greater loads and increased soil protection.

Is Yokohama considering Romania for its new European tyre factory?

Yokohama is in the process of buying Romanian off-highway tyre manufacturing business Euro Tires Manufacturing SRL. Euro Tires Manufacturing reportedly went bankrupt at the end of January 2025 after almost 7 years of an insolvency and reorganisation process that began back in 2018. Yokohama Rubber sent a letter of intent regarding the acquisition of assets belonging to Euro Tires Manufacturing at the end of 2024, according to various Romanian news sources. The big question is: do these developments suggest that Romania will be the location of Yokohama’s long-previewed European car and/or truck tyre factory?

Yokohama TWS closing Spartanburg, USA factory

Less than a year ago, Yokohama TWS was sharing news of a 20 per cent capacity increase at the 40,000 square metre Trelleborg Tires plant in Spartanburg, USA. Now it is planning the factory’s closure. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing made with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, Yokohama TWS North America intends to permanently close the facility by 19 April 2025. The closure will affect 90 jobs.

moveero names Luca Pini as European account manager

moveero has appointed Luca Pini to the position of key account manager, Europe, where he will work closely with the European operations of key customers John Deere and AGCO.

Based at moveero’s test, research and development facility in Brescia, Italy, Pini brings over 20 years of sales and technical experience working with original equipment manufacturers worldwide.

Interfit opens 6th Tyre Service Center in Brazil

Interfit, which is owned by Yokohama TWS and is purportedly the global leader in specialty tyre services, has opened its sixth industrial tyre service centre in Brazil. The latest opening is described as “a significant milestone in Interfit’s expansion” since it “solidifies” the company’s position as “a service sector leader in Brazil’s industrial tyre market”.

Yokohama Rubber closing Prague OHT plant

The former Mitas off-highway tyre (OHT) factory in Prague, Czech Republic will cease production by the middle of this year. The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. (YRC) has decided to close the facility, operated by its subsidiary Yokohama TWS Czech Republic a.s., as part of a scheme to boost efficiencies. The Prague plant’s production programme will transfer to other facilities within the YRC Group.

Yokohama TWS names Lawrence Harmon as regional president North and Central America

Yokohama TWS has appointed Lawrence Harmon as Regional President North and Central America (NCA), effective 1 January 2025. In this role, Lawrence will be responsible for driving the NCA business strategy, leading market growth, and further developing the commercial team. He will report directly to Elio Bartoli, president of Yokohama TWS.

Nokian Tyres confirms 1 January start date for Pompei

Paolo Pompei will assume the role of President and CEO of Nokian Tyres plc on 1 January 2025, confirms the company’s Board of Directors. He succeeds Jukka Moisio, who will retire from the tyre maker at the end of 2024.

Yokohama TWS names Elio Bartoli as company president

Yokohama TWS has appointed Elio Bartoli as its new company president, effective 1 December. Elio Bartoli succeeds Paolo Pompei, who is stepping down to become president and CEO at Nokian Tyres. Company representatives thanked Pompei for his ”impressive tenure” with the company.

Trelleborg Tires celebrates innovation at Tractor de España Award 2024

Trelleborg Tires was the official partner of the fifth edition of the Tractor de España Award 2024. The annual event, organised by the magazine Agrotécnica recognises the most advanced, efficient, and sustainable tractor models in the market. The awards, which promote excellence, innovation, and sustainability in agricultural machinery, took place on 27 September at the Superior Technical School of Agronomic, Food and Biosystems Engineering (ETSIAAB) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Trelleborg Tires has supported the event since its first edition.
