Starting in 2027, Michelin will become exclusive tyre supplier for all categories of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK), a role it will fulfil until the end of the 2031 season. As the championship’s all-category supplier, Michelin will provide tyres to WorldSBK, WorldSSP, and the newly introduced World Sportbike (WorldSPB) class, as well as the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR).
Pirelli will continue as sole official tyre supplier for all classes of the FIM Superbike World Championship for a further three years, up to and including the 2026 season. With the current agreement expiring at the end of this year, Dorna WorldSBK Organization, in agreement with motorcycling federation the FIM, proposed to Pirelli a new three-year agreement for the period 2024-2026.
A new tyre pressure control procedure was introduced during the opening round of the WorldSBK Championship 2018, which took place in Australia last weekend. This measure has been welcomed by Giorgio Barbier, racing director at Pirelli Moto, who comments that tyre pressure remains a “crucial point” for championship supplier Pirelli.
The season opener of the WorldSBK Championship 2018 began in Australia today, and Pirelli is back for a 15th year as official tyre supplier for all classes. For the race weekend, riders will have a total of seven tyre options open to them (in addition to the super soft qualifier tyre that can only be used in the second session of Superpole), four front and three rear tyres, and in addition to the tyres evaluated on testing days, riders can select an additional front and rear option.
