Motiva Leasing Fleet Opts for Michelin New Tyre Policy

ATS Euromaster has increased its share of business with Motiva Group from 30 to 100 per cent, under a new tyre fitment policy which has seen the company select Michelin as its preferred tyre brand across its fleet of over 3,500 cars. The new agreement spans each of Stoke-on-Trent-based Motiva Group’s leasing and rental arms, including Motiva Vehicle Contracts and M-Way Vehicle Rentals. The deal replaces a previous arrangement which saw tyre fitment shared between Kwik-Fit and ATS Euromaster, with a predominantly Pirelli-based policy.

106 Vehicles Damaged as Serial Slasher Stalks Stoke-on-Trent

Residents in the former pottery town of Stoke-on-Trent, home to the UK’s premier tyre business magazine Tyres & Accessories, are being advised to be alert, as reports show that over 100 vehicles’ tyres have been slashed in the past seven weeks. Local newspaper The Sentinel reports that the Serial Slasher’s reign of (rubber) terror has so far been limited to Longton, where 73 cars have been damaged, and Stoke, in which 33 have been affected. Flummoxed police officers are appealing for help in catching the criminal, who is said to be using “either a knife or a sharp screwdriver” to slash or puncture tyres across the city.

A & A Tyres provide life-line to local school

A & A Tyres in Cardiff, part of First Stop network of tyre dealerships, has come to the rescue of a local school who was at risk of losing one of its life lines, a mini-bus due to the increasing cost of running the vehicle. As well as replacing all the tyres on the mini-bus A & A Tyres is funding all of its maintenance which includes servicing, general maintenance and safety checks every eight weeks. The company has also offered to look after the rest of the school’s fleet of vehicles for a significantly reduced rate. This has enabled the school to keep the vehicle and ensure they are all safe-guarded for the future.

House Waste Tyres at Your Peril, Says BBC Report

A report produced by the BBC has highlighted the increase of tyre dumping scams following the implementation of recycling laws and the financial risks unwitting property owners are exposed to should tyres be left on their land. The article, screened on Welsh channel S4C on Tuesday, highlighted the plight of Maria Burt and others who have been left with hefty bills for removing tyres left on their property by tenants operating tyre collection operations.

Bridgestone Softs Run Fast at Sepang

Bridgestone’s soft tyre proved faster at Sepang on the first day of the Malaysian Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen’s Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro set the day’s fastest lap time in the afternoon practice session held in hot but cloudy weather conditions, though AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg used the hard compound to go fastest in the morning. The hot and humid 5.54km Sepang circuit provided a challenge for competitors still mastering the 2009 specification cars and Bridgestone’s latest slick tyres and new tyre allocations. Today was the first time that Bridgestone’s hard compound tyre has been used by teams, and the first time a Bridgestone soft compound has been used at Malaysia.

Bridgestone Appoints Car Dealer Executive

Carl Williams has been appointed as car dealer executive within Bridgestone’s Consumer Sales department. Williams celebrated 10 years with the organisation at the start of the year having joined the firm in 1998 as area sales manager, before transferring to the role of business development manager with Bridgestone’s First Stop network in 2007. In his new role Carl will continue to be responsible for the south and Wales, working alongside Phil Livingston, car dealer executive for the northern region.

Commenting on his new role, Carl Williams said: “I have worked within the tyre industry for 28 years and although I have worked in various roles, it has always been in a retail environment. This new role provides the opportunity to use my experience in consumer sales to tackle new challenges.”

Maxxis Enters Second Year of XRRA Rock Racing

2008 will see Maxxis maintain its title sponsorship of the Xtreme Rock Racing (XRRA) Series for a second year. The Maxxis XRRA Series is covered extensively on cable’s Speed network and started this March with the first race in the western division, followed by the eastern division opener in April. US finals are scheduled for September, while the series also has international perspective – the German Championship runs between April and October.

“I believe that we are starting to see the industry recognising the series as the Maxxis XRRA. With the factory support we receive, not to mention the individual event support of Creighton King, we believe this is a great opportunity to capitalise on our momentum coming out of 2007. With this momentum and branding, 2008 is certain to outpace any previous race season,” said Jodi Weaver, president of XRRA. Brad Williams of Maxxis’s automotive department added: “Maxxis is very excited to sponsor XRRA for a second great year. The XRRA team is outstanding and we’re delighted to be working with them.”

Maxxis Signs 3-year deal with Best in the Desert

Maxxis has confirmed its status as Official Tyre of Best in the Desert with a new three-year deal. “Best in the Desert is very, very proud to have Maxxis with us,” said series owner Casey Folks. “We’ve had about 30 Best in the Desert vehicles with Maxxis on them and by going with Maxxis, we’ve had zero problems. Our relationship is outstanding, and as we go forward we’re making Maxxis synonymous with Best in the Desert – and when you think about it, what a great combination.” Brad Williams of Maxxis’s automotive department was equally enthusiastic, saying: “Best in the Desert is recognised as one of the premier desert racing series among top teams and sponsors. We are pleased to be part of their growth and feel we have a found a great partner for years to come.”

Kumho Continues as Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3 Sponsor

During the weekend of 8 -10 August, top Formula 3 drivers will once again race on Kumho tyres at Zolder, following tyre supplier Kumho’s decision to commit to the event as title sponsor. The “Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3” is Europe’s only race featuring the best Formula 3 drivers from the various championships.

“Of course, this is still a temporary solution, because Zandvoort is the natural homebase for the Masters, like the name already indicates”, says Erik Weijers, C.O.O. of Circuit Park Zandvoort. “The idea of the Masters was born at Zandvoort and the event has built up its strong history here from the very first edition in 1991 onwards. Because of the limited number of so-called ‘noise days’ that we have at Zandvoort, we have to escape to Zolder. Of course, the facilities and the support we are getting there is excellent. Zolder surely is the best possible alternative in that respect.”

Swansea Council Intensifies Battle Against Fly Tippers

With the incidence of fly tipping continuing to rise local authorities are faced with the option of aggressively tackling the issue or becoming overcome with dumped tyres. Swansea Council is hoping to stamp out the illegal practice through the efforts of a newly recruited dedicated enforcement officer.

“There has been a dramatic increase in fly tipped tyres in Swansea over recent months with the discovery of hundreds of tyres being reported and found in sites though out the city,” commented Frances Williams, Swansea Council’s Enforcement and Litter Team Leader. “We have between 20 to 30 reports of fly tipped tyres per month and these numbers vary from four to four hundred per call.

UK Subaru Dealerships Buy 50 Brake Lathes

Following a recommendation from Subaru of America, UK dealership have purchased 50 on car brake lathes from Pro-Cut. According to the company, when the discs are resurfaced using an on-car brake lathe, mulitple repairs for brake judder, squeals and squeaks are virtually eliminated. The PFM 9.19 is the latest generation of on-car brake lathes and can skim an axle in under 20 minutes whilst the brake pads are being changed.

Subaru of America recommended the brake lathe in response to brake discs being classed as consumables and as such not covered by warranty. All Subaru dealerships and service centres have been advised to skim discs rather than replace them, saving the workshop time, saving the customer unneeded expense, and saving the environment by recycling reusable discs.

Tyre Man In Kenyan Charity Cycle Ride

Fifty-five-year-old Gary Williams, from Broughton Hackett, near Worcester, is preparing to travel 400km (248 miles) across Kenya in the Transaid cycle ride, which begins in Nairobi on Saturday, November 10. With the help of local companies, including Hankook Tyres, he is hoping to raise thousands of pounds to help improve people’s quality of life.

More Details of Navistar – Double Coin Deal

(Akron/Tire Review) Citing the effects of a global shortage on commercial truck tires, Navistar has opted to add China-made Double Coin radial truck tires to its OE mix. Navistar signed a deal with China Manufacturers Alliance to put Double Coin radials on “several platforms” of its Class 4-8 International vehicles and IC Corp. buses.

The move marks the first time that a China-produced truck tire has earned an OE position with a major North American truck producer.

Theft From Lodge Tyres

A report in the regional newspaper Express & Star revealed that thieves broke into the Lodge Tyres depot in Pleck Road, Walsall at the weekend and stole more than 200 tyres, valued at £50,000. According to joint manager Phil Williams, thieves made off with 129 truck tyres and 92 van tyres. The thieves disabled the depot’s alarm and forced open roller shutter doors before loading the tyres on to a lorry and driving off. Not surprisingly, Lodge Tyres’ business was badly affected by the loss of stock.
