Cam Systems’ MIDaS B2B Platform on Track for £200m Milestone

Cam Systems’ MIDaS B2B, the online ordering platform for tyre wholesalers, is on track to hit £200 million in annual sales by December 2010 across its client base. According to the IT-provider, the rise in online transactions is a result of its use by tyre wholesalers as a key sales process enabler in conjunction with their retailer partners. The MIDaS managed service enables the acceleration of the ordering process between the retailer and wholesaler considerably. Cam also says it is easy to implement, informative and accurate.

Sumitomo After 1.8% Stake in Stamford Tyres

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. SRI is to purchase a 1.8 per cent stake in international tyre and wheel distributor, Stamford Tyres Corporation Limited. Subject to the approval from the Singapore Stock Exchange, Stamford Tyres announced 21 September that it will issue SRI 4.3 million new shares at a price of S$0.35 per share.

Net proceeds from the placement, after deducting expenses of S$100,000, are said to be approximately S$1.4 million (£674,522; 793,471 euros; US$1.054 million) According to the company, the net proceeds will be used to fund the group’s working capital needs in South Africa.

Stapleton's Opens 100,000 sq. ft. Birmingham Warehouse

Stapleton’s has significantly increased its stock capacity with the company’s official opening of a new 100,000 square foot warehousing facility in Birmingham. The new warehouse, which is reportedly already stocked, is designed to hold over 250,000 tyres. Company representatives told Tyres & Accessories that the site will utilise “the latest technology and picking systems to ensure the best possible efficiency and delivery turnaround, reinforcing Stapleton’s commitment to being a fast, reliable and efficient distributor.”

More Red Letter Days to be won with Grouptyre and Federal

Following its promotion last autumn that the wholesaler described as “highly successful”, Grouptyre is again teaming up with tyre manufacturer Federal for another national incentive which will see six lucky retailers win an exciting Red Letter Day experience. Grouptyre is the exclusive UK distributor of Federal, which offers high performance, light truck, 4×4 and SUV tyres. Grouptyre’s 2010 Red Letter Day runs as two consecutive promotions, from 1 September to 31 October and from 1 November to 31 December, and the winners will be chosen at random from all the entries received. Tire Group International has opened a new sales office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which will be led by Rosana Sanchez. “Having been an integral part of our team in Miami, Fla., for numerous years, Rosana has relocated to Brazil, where she will spearhead our local marketing and sales initiatives, which will give an even greater reach to our exclusive and private-label brands,” said Orlando Delgado, TGI’s senior vice president of business development

Stapleton’s Adds 22 Vans to its Delivery Fleet

Stapleton's recently added 22 new vans to add to its delivery fleet. In an investment worth over £600,000, Stapleton’s expanded the fleet with the addition of six Mercedes Benz Sprinter Panel Vans, seven Renault New Master Panel Vans and nine Isuzu 7.5 tonne trucks.

Stapleton’s are amongst the first in the UK to receive Renault’s New Master Panel Van. Liveried with the company’s corporate identity each of these vans will go straight into the company’s ever growing fleet, providing customers with a twice-a-day, same-day or next-day nationwide delivery service.

E-Commerce Growth Drives Delticom Revenues in H1, 2010

In reporting its financial results for the first half of the 2010 financial year, Germany’s Delticom AG – the company behind mytyres.co.uk – observed a marked difference between the performance of its main e-commerce business and its comparatively small-scale wholesale operation. Delticom notes the continuation of the global economic recovery during the first and an improvement in conditions in most European countries, yet has also seen that within the “strong rebound” in its home market Germany domestic demand has lagged behind the improving consumer sentiment. Therefore, while the internet is “steadily gaining significance as a sales channel”, Delticom states that the late-cycle retail sector as a whole “has not yet been able to benefit from the upturn to the same extent as other sectors of the economy.”

Stamford Tyres Probing Markets for Increased Penetration following “Foundational” FY2010

Stamford Tyres is a business of two major halves. Firstly it runs a distribution business in nine countries including its home nation of Singapore; secondly it is the manufacturer of its SSW brand of wheels and the owner of its outsourced manufactured Sumo Firenza proprietary brand tyres, which it displayed in Europe recently at Essen 2010. “We help the plants with technical assistance, with our own designs for products, and we own our own tooling,” explained the company’s CEO and president, Wee Kok Wah when Tyres & Accessories interviewed him on his recent visit to London following Reifen 2010. “That way we can gear our capacity quite quickly and easily. We have a large team of engineers in China to deliver product quality assurance. The product meets the highest standard that you want.”

Stapleton’s Confirms Pirelli CPK Purchase

Stapleton’s Tyre Services has confirmed that it has agreed terms with Pirelli Tyre UK to purchase its CPK Auto Products Ltd business. Asked what the strategic intention behind the firm’s latest acquisition is, Stapleton’s representatives said “Pirelli’s CPK strengthens Stapleton’s position as the UK’s number one tyre distributor” and said the move sees the tyre distribution specialist “expand its trade distribution operation enabling a further improvement in efficiencies and customer service” in an official statement. No details of the terms of the sale have been released.

Commenting on the acquisition, Stapleton’s chief executive, Kenji Murai, said: “We are a growing business and this latest acquisition allows us to further improve our market position. Our aim is to provide excellent value for money alongside great customer service, across all our B2B sectors. This philosophy will be at the heart of everything we do.”

Pirelli Sells CPK Tyre Wholesale Business to Stapleton’s

Stapleton’s Tyre Service has agreed terms to buy Pirelli’s CPK tyre wholesale business for an undisclosed sum. A TUPE consultation process commenced with elected representatives of CPK on Monday 26 July. The sale is said to fall within Pirelli UK's strategy to focus on its core business, which does not include tyre retail or wholesale operations.

Cefni Tyres Win Grouptyre, Continental World Cup Promotion

Cefni Tyres of Llangefni, Gwynedd was named the winner of the first prize in the football themed national promotion organised by Grouptyre and Continental during the early stages of the World Cup last month. The retailer received a Sony 46” full HD LCD TV and home cinema system in the promotion, which ran throughout May, and was presented with the prize by its local Grouptyre member Oak Tyres.

Point S (UK) Aiming for 100 Members, Recruitment Drive at Brityrex 2010

The latest addition to the influential Point S European buying and marketing group – Point S (UK) – is set to embark on a recruitment drive at this October’s Brityrex International show in Manchester. Independent tyre retailers will be the focus of a membership drive by the alliance between the powerful French Point S group and UK Tyres, the network of 13 independent retailers which has signed up to become the British arm of Point S. Point S currently operates in 20 European countries and has more than 1,900 independently-owned tyre retail outlets in membership and sales of over 11 million tyres per year.

UK Tyres currently has 13 member companies with a combined total of 56 retail outlets but Sunderland is confident that figure will grow quickly towards the 100 member companies targeted over the next 12 months.

Daly Tyres to Promote Kenda at Brityrex 2010

Just about a year after Daly Tyres opened a new wholesale distribution centre in Stoke-on-Trent, the Ireland-based firm is to use Brityrex 2010 as a platform to showcase the Kenda brand in the UK.

“Kenda is a very progressive company and we view them as a great partnership for our business. Brityrex will be the perfect platform to market Kenda and our other product ranges and will be the place for UK and Irish retailers to meet suppliers covering all aspects of the tyre business,” Eamon Daly said when confirming his company’s involvement in the show.
