Kirkby Tyres gains ISO 14001 certification following focus on sustainability practices

Speke-based tyre wholesaler Kirkby Tyres has gained ISO 14001:2015 certification following its installation of new solar panels, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable practices. The company says it became the first UK truck and agricultural tyre specialist wholesaler to gain the certification when it was confirmed on 18 August 2023. The company adds that the latest certification is not the first time it has led the way in best practices; in 1993, Kirkby Tyres became the first truck & agricultural tyre wholesaler in the UK to achieve ISO 9001 accreditation. The company said: “we continue to pay consideration to the maintenance and renewal of our operating procedures, standards, and documentation.” Kirkby Tyres celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2022.

Colmec cooperating with Flexbuss

Swedish public transport operator Flexbuss – not to be confused with the firm with the green-liveried intercity coaches – has entered into a cooperation with tyre distributor Colmec Group, beginning 1 September 2023. Announcing the arrangement, Colmec key account manager Mikael Kjellgren said “we are very happy that Flexbuss chooses Colmec as its comprehensive partner regarding tyres and tyre service and I look forward to developing together.”

Green light for Tyre Call Antrim expansion

Wholesaler Tyre Call has gained approval for a new storage and distribution warehouse at its Antrim, Northern Ireland site. Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Planning Committee has approved plans for the building of a 7,361 square metre distribution warehouse.

Groupe Touchette acquires Fastco Canada

Canada’s largest locally owned tyre distributor has acquired the country’s largest manufacturer and distributor of alloy and steel wheels and accessories. With its purchase of Fastco Canada, Groupe Touchette Inc., views itself as positioned to “significantly expand” its service offering and is confident the transaction will provide Fastco Canada with “greater access to new markets.” The tyre wholesaler also speaks of “strong synergies in product offering.”

Football: Sailun a premium partner to VfL Osnabrück

Together with local distribution partner Bohnenkamp, Sailun Group has become tyre partner of German football club VfL Osnabrück, which currently plays in the second division 2. Bundesliga. Sailun has come on board as a premium partner, while Bohnenkamp and the Maxam brand serve as team partners. This joint arrangement will initially run for three years.

Australia’s RPM to expand tyre wholesaling through acquisition

Effective 1 September 2023, Australia’s RPM Automotive Group Limited is acquiring regional wholesaler and retailer Chapel Corner Tyres. By purchasing this Melbourne-based firm, RPM aims to scale its wholesale tyre division distribution network in the Victoria metro region.

UK all-season tyre market: leading wholesaler MTS on continued fast growth

While the all-season tyre market in the UK has started its ascent from a low base, it remains the fastest growing consumer car tyre segment. The trend has been supported by the last five years of manufacturers’ all-season product development, which have reduced the compromises involved in fitting a tyre capable of performing well in moderate winter weather conditions all year round. Leading independent UK tyre wholesaler Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS) has been strengthening its all-season range with exclusive brands, including the new all-season tyres from its owner Sumitomo Rubber Industries’ global flagship brand Falken and long-term MTS partner GT Radial, the recent addition of Turkish brand Petlas to its line-up, and further product additions from brands such as Runway and Ovation. RH Claydon distributing Nokian agri & forestry tyres

Nokian Heavy Tyres now has a second partner in the UK. RH Claydon Ltd. is distributing Nokian forestry and agricultural tyres from its warehouses after entering into an agreement with the tyre maker. RH Claydon reports that it now stocks these products in most popular tread patterns and sizes, with next-day availability in certain locations.
