Grouptyre turnover ‘approaching £310m’

Grouptyre says that “continued investment” by its members is one of the primary reasons for its 2015 growth following a period of consolidation. With a turnover fast approaching £310m, Grouptyre, which comprises 10 strong regional wholesalers, has seen further investment in warehousing, delivery vehicles and therefore availability of product and an increase in delivery drops to its retail customers. Currently Grouptyre has 40 strategically located distribution points, with more expected to be added, and 440 delivery vehicles nationwide.

Micheldever makes dealer support appointments

Tyre distributor has appointed Rory Carlin as the company’s marketing general manager, along with Jamie Whittam as trade marketing manager in order to develop stronger relationships with dealers. Among their priorities, the pair will focus on enhancing the support Micheldever provides to its customers.

Micheldever celebrating General Tire milestones in 2015

General Tire turns 100 years old in 2015, and the Continental-owned brand will mark its centenary with its UK distributor Micheldever with an event at Jaguar Land Rover’s Gaydon facility later in the year. The partnership between General and its distributor is itself celebrating a landmark year.

Michelin acquires second German wholesaler

Last year Michelin made news when it bought out the parent company of Germany’s largest wholesaler, Ihle Baden-Baden AG, and now the French tyre maker has increased its wholesale presence in Germany with the 100 per cent acquisition of Meyer Lissendorf, a wholesaler with a strong car tyre focus. Michelin has not disclosed the purchase price.

TGI appoints domestic division OE & fleet sales VP

US-based wholesaler Tire Group International has appointed Jeff DeVonde vice-president of original equipment and fleet sales within its domestic division. He comes to the role with more than 24 years of transportation industry experience, including most recently as director of sales at trucking, logistics and maintenance business Alabama Motor Express.

Arcom introduces new foldable pallet tyre racking system

The Polish producer of powder coated or galvanised coated tyre racks, trolleys and display stands, Arcom has unveiled its latest tyre rack. The AR05 MIX is a universal tyre rack, which can store up to 72 passenger car and 4×4 tyres, or 40 light truck tyres on bars. Fully transportable – the AR05 MIX can be folded and stored up to 20 units high including storage of bars – the AR05 MIX is stackable up to three levels high (6.6m).

Micheldever targets accelerated growth with Protyre expansion

Micheldever Tyre Services says it will “begin the biggest period of expansion in its 43 year history” this year, with a large expansion of its Protyre retail network planned over the next 18 months. The wholesaler posted revenues exceeding £322m last year, selling 6 million tyres through 8,500 fast fit centres – including its own Protyre branded retail sites. Current low-end estimates could put this figure at around one in every five tyres replaced by UK motorists.

Micheldever’s TyreClick to support independents’ online competitiveness

In the context of large chains and online specialists growing in influence, Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS), Britain’s largest independent wholesaler, distributor and retailer of tyres, states that its proprietary TyreClick solution could provide an answer for independent garage businesses. The increasing popularity of online tyre sales in European markets, recently noted by Michelin after purchasing Blackcircles.com, is resulting in increased competition for online sales from national chains and specialist internet traders. Recent movement in the online landscape has ignited the debate among independents about how they can compete, and Micheldever says it is stepping into the breach with TyreClick.

Kirkby Tyres supplying wide OTR range from expanded facility

One of the leading UK wholesalers of OTR tyres in the UK, Kirkby Tyres claims to be the country’s largest stockholder in the OTR and construction tyre industry. The company expanded its facilities during 2014, with its Speke, near Liverpool, headquarters now measuring nearly 10 acres. Magna Tyres adds a further distributor in Germany

Following news in March that it had entered into a relationship with German wholesaler Reifen Helm, Magna Tyres now reports that as of May 2015 it operates a strategic alliance with wholesaler Reifen Lorenz. This regional wholesaler, like Reifen Helm, is considered an “ideal partner” for the further expansion of Magna Tyres’ OTR activities in Germany. Reifen Lorenz will distribute both the Magna brand and the new MTP range of OTR tyres.

TGI appoints new president

As of 1 April, Joaquin Gonzalez Jr. has taken on the role of president at US tyre wholesaler Tire Group International. Prior to his appointment to this new role, Gonzalez served as the company’s chief marketing officer. He joined TGI in 2006 as chief operating officer.
