Ride Straight With ProBike

These German manufactured laser aligners offer, reports ProBike, a very quick and accurate method of measuring motorcycle or ATV wheel alignment. Two separate laser line generator modules project vertical laser beams from the rear wheel forward, striking the screens attached to the front wheel. Viewing the position of these beams on the front screens provides the operator with instant, easily readable information about the vehicle’s current alignment and camber settings.

More Than Launches ‘Green Driving Technology’

More Than Car Insurance has launched a pioneering new insurance scheme that uses Formula 1-style, in-car telemetry to help British motorists drive in a greener, more efficient and economical way. The innovative service, called Green Wheels, helps drivers understand how their driving style affects the environment by giving them access to information such as their rate of acceleration, braking and the number of short journeys they make. By doing this, More Than hopes to help change the way drivers behave behind the wheel and lower the carbon footprint of the 31 million cars on Britain’ roads.

Dowshan Humzah, Product Director at More Than, commented: “Green Wheels is great news for anyone interested in taking more responsibility for their own carbon ‘tyre-print.’ Furthermore, by helping motorists drive more efficiently the ‘Green Box’ can also help cut the cost of motoring which, with fuel prices rising, is top of many motorists’ agendas.”

Kingsway Tyres Educates Norfolk in Tyre Safety

Kingsway Tyres, a First Stop dealership, has been out and about in its home county of Norfolk helping to educate the community in tyre safety. The Royal Norfolk Show and a special event that took place at Asda two weeks later in Norwich played host to the company’s roadshow, working in conjunction with Bridgestone’s worldwide “Think Before You Drive” campaign. Research shows that 90 per cent of drivers do not know the correct pressure of their tyres, so the events represented an excellent opportunity to encourage drivers to think more seriously about the state of their vehicles’ wheels.

The roadshow, which was visited by hundreds of Norfolk residents, featured the Ferrari Formula One car and an F1 simulator, accessed through a charitable donation. As a result £450 was raised for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, while Asda-based fundraising raised a further £331.38 for The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital Respiratory Unit.

Goodyear Makes US Reputation Top 20

Forbes magazine has bestowed the honour of being named one of the Reputation Institute’s most respected American companies upon the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Goodyear is 16th on the publication’s list, details of which can be found on the publication’s website.

The RI’s criteria for ranking include the organisation’s “seven dimensions of reputation”, which comprise products/services, innovation, workplace, citizenship, governance, leadership and performance. The ratings were generated by the RI’s Global Pulse consumer opinion survey, while the company’s score of 76.0 shows an impressive 7.54 increase on 2007’s score. Goodyear is the sole representative of the tyre manufacturing industry on the list.

Military Turns Back to Wheels

The military are turning back to wheels as opposed to tracks on defence vehicles. According to a Jane’ Defence Weekly report, there is an increasing trend back towards wheeled vehicles for logistics reasons. The thinking is that a wheel vehicle is better able to get itself to war than a tracked machine, which would need a transported of some kind.

According to the report, republished in the SMMT’s Transport News Brief, the trend was particularly visible the recent Defence Vehicle Dynamics show at Millbrook in Bedfordshire, which was dominated by 6×6 and 8×8 drive trains, with barely any tracked vehicles. At the same time, UK Ministry of Defence took the opportunity to announce orders for more fighting vehicles, all of them wheeled.

Nokian’s Latest UHP Tyre

The newest addition to the Nokian range of summer tyres is the Z G2; a W and Y speed rated uhp tyre, designed for sporty cars and fast driving. It is available in a number of sizes, for wheels from 16″ to 20″ diameter. The Nokian Z G2 has been developed and tested on fast European tracks, as well as on rough-surfaced roads, over several years. Special attention was paid to wet grip and the prevention of aquaplaning. Wear resistance was developed by means of thorough laboratory testing and driving hard durability tests on harsh asphalt surfaces. The tyre is targeted at demanding consumers, and its top-of-the-range performance has been achieved with the help of the latest development and production technology.

Treadsetters Aiming to Increase Durun Sales 400%

Telford-based wholesaler, Treadsetters is aiming to increase sales of its Chinese produced Durun brand this year by more than four times the 2007 figure. Last year Treadsetters, which holds the European distribution rights, sold roughly 120,000 tyres. This year the company is aiming to increase this to half a million. So far sales have largely been generated in the UK, but customers have also purchased through Treadsetters from as far afield as Spain, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France and some African countries.

Solideal Increases Prices Worldwide

Solideal Group has increased prices across its whole product portfolio. In Europe, prices will rise 8-12 per cent. In other countries, prices are set to go up by between 10 and 14 per cent. The new prices will be valid from July to September 2008. Solideal increased prices earlier this year, including a steel surcharge on wheels. Both moves triggered similar responses from other industrial tyre and wheel makers. According to the company, Solideal increased prices due to continuous increases in the cost of raw materials, which have exceeded the Group’s expectations.

CITEXPO Filling Fast

ADL Releases Catalogue, Receives ISO Certification

ADL S.A., France’s leading designer and manufacturer of theft protection devices for automobile wheels has been awarded with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949 certification. Hofmann Megaplan Launches New Mobile Tyre Changer

Hofmann Megaplan UK, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of high-performance tyre equipment, has launched the megamount 401 XL Racing – a new tyre changer designed to be used in a mobile fitting van.

The device has been developed from the ‘swing-arm’ principle popularly used in mobile fitting vans, but that has also presented limitations in terms of the range of wheels they can handle. The new apparatus represents an attempt to overcome these limitations by utilising the ‘Quadraclamp’ turntable system from Hofmann Megaplan’s 701. In conjunction with the “megafit” arm this allows a much larger clamping size than previous mobile fitter models.
