Not All Balancers Are Equal

Corniche to Premiere “Vegas” Alloy at Essen Motor Show

Swiss wheel manufacturer, Corniche has announced that it will launch its new light alloy wheel at the Essen Motor Show (Hall 2, Stand 314). Vegas, states the company, delivers a modern interpretation of the classical five-star wheel; “not only the five double spokes, but also the lowered centre renders a dynamic character. The multi-part look and the high-gloss finished rim well reflecting the spokes, enhance the vibrant appearance.” The wheel is, states Corniche, “made for style-conscious drivers who put special emphasis on an elegant performance and appreciate the cosmopolitan design language of the model.” It will be available in sizes: 8.5×19, 9.5×19, 8.5×20 and 10×20 inches.

Michelin’s Agricultural Tyre Training Course Gets City & Guilds Approval

Michelin’s latest agricultural tyre training course, which is run at the Company’s Training Centre in Stoke-on-Trent, has gained City & Guilds approval. The Agricultural Tyre technical course is designed for tyre trade personnel and other people involved in the sales, maintenance and specification of agricultural tyres. It is offered to new recruits to the industry as well as giving experienced personnel the opportunity to receive formal training on a wide range of agricultural tyre-related topics.

Marangoni Floats the Z-HYDRO

Following the success enjoyed by its previous Alfa MiTo M430 and the Fiat 5.0.0. project cars, Marangoni has developed the ‘Z-HYDRO’, a new tuned vehicle for 2010. As before, the project has been handled by Florence, Italy based tuner TRC Italia, and completed in what Marangoni describes as an “astonishingly short time”, considering the recent market launch of the Nissan 370Z R34, the vehicle the Z-HYDRO is based upon.

For what it believes is the first time in India, Siremull Hirachand's Tyrestore of Greams Road, Chennai has announced the introduction of Italian robotics within their tyre fitting equipment. The Fox Robofit, Tyrestore continues, is recommended by Michelin and Bridgestone worldwide for the fitment of the new generation Tubeless, Runflat, Low/Ultra Low Profile, Hi Performance tyres and is customised to Tyrestore’s requirements, designed to suit Indian operating conditions. The retailer believes that the equipment makes the company “future ready”, since it can be used to fit tyres measuring up to 26” wheels/tyres. Exemplifying the company’s readiness for the future, says Tyrestore, is the fact that the current standard fitment limit for most BMW cars in India is only 20”, while Rolls Royce is 21”.

Accuride Brands Win Thomas Built Supplier Awards

Accuride Corporation’s Gunite and Accuride Wheels brands have received Silver Supplier Awards for 2009 from Daimler Trucks North America division Thomas Built Buses. This award is given to Thomas Built Buses suppliers whose “supplier report cards” exceed a 90 per cent standard of excellence for the year. Suppliers are graded on their performance in specified criteria surrounding quality, delivery, cost, warranty, and technical support.

Yokohama Tyres and Wheels on TV in New Modding TV Show

A brand-new TV Series on MTV channel Viva, Slips, sees Yokohama tyres selected as part of a tuning package where modified car owners race to win each others' car. Yokohama tyres and a range of aftermarket alloy wheels from the UK distributor, Yokohama HPT Ltd feature in many of the episodes, hosted by Fun Lovin' Criminals front-man Huey Morgan. The premise of Slips is simple; two car owners choose a range of modifications to their everyday cars with the aim of beating the other round a specially-designed racetrack. The winner takes both cars home while the loser walks.

Brityrex 2010 Offering Chinese Manufacturers a Door to UK Market

The introduction of tariffs and other protective measures in the US has to an extent closed the door to affordable Chinese tyres there, and this is good news to European consumers with an interest in value for money. Many Chinese companies have identified this opportunity to further develop their businesses in our region, and a number of them have turned to Brityrex 2010 as a platform from which they can effectively do so. Exhibition organiser ECI International reports, as of mid-November, having taken no less than 25 stand bookings from Chinese suppliers, with the prospect of more to follow.

Ayce Launches Combined Tyre Fitting/Alloy Wheel Refurb Machine

Yorkshire based Ayce Systems has launched the innovative tyre changing/alloy wheel refurbishment machine called the Wheelrite Combi. Developed by Ayce’s own technicians, the company expects the new machine to open up “new business opportunities for many sectors of the industry, particularly tyre fitters looking to move into alloy wheel refurbishment without having the additional expense of buying two machines.”

Logically the machine also works the other way round, allowing alloy wheel refurbishers to carry out tyre fitting. This flexibility is demonstrated by the diversity of three customers that have already bought machines: A body shop keen to expand their business into tyre fitting and alloy wheel refurbishment; a large prestige car dealership that is bringing both services in-house; and a powder coating company that has set up a separate unit next door to complement their existing customer services.

Kwik-Fit Signs for 3 More Years of DriveRight Data

Kwik-Fit has renewed its contract with data suppliers DriveRight for a further three years. The deal sees Kwik-Fit continue the customer focus of its online store front, with facilities that allow clients to shop for tyres and alloy wheels that fit their car by entering the vehicle details or registration number. According to a company statement, Kwik-Fit has worked successfully with DriveRight to make their online tyre and alloy sales process a “huge success.”

Alcoa Wheels on Green Coca-Cola Truck

Renault Trucks is making a test hybrid propulsion system vehicle for Coca-Cola Enterprises Belgium (CCEB). The vehicle which will come fitted with Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels will “speed up development of the Renault Premium Distribution Hybrys Tech by having it used under actual operating conditions,” according to the company. Alcoa points out that its wheels are not only lighter and stronger than steel, but also easy to clean thanks to the Dura-Bright surface treatment.

New Zealand Winter Tyre Restrictions “Not Enough”, Says Campaigner

The New Zealand Government has prohibited the fitting of both winter and summer tyres to the same vehicle, yet for a man that has campaigned against the cold weather product for two years this ban does not go far enough. Don Graham’s fiancée was killed in 2007 when her car – fitted with winter tyres on the rear wheels – lost traction on a wet road, and he believes that cold weather tyres have no place in New Zealand.
