Watts Tyre Group Launches Interfit European Service Business

Watts Tyre Group has announced the launch of Interfit, the industrial tyre business' international service operation. From 5 January Watts Tyre Group service operations throughout Europe will begin the process of rebranding with goal of completing this by June 2010. According to the company, the launch of Interfit serves as a repositioning in the industrial tyre service market by formally creating a dedicated, specialist service division. Interfit will service the forklift truck market through its depot and mobile press operation acting as a service partner to the OEM dealer networks. Customers will be managed through regional offices in UK, France and Germany where administrative functions and local service desks are based.

Alcoa Invests in Adaptable OE Wheel Forging Technology

Cleveland, Ohio-based wheel manufacturer, Alcoa believes it has solved the problem of how to launch multiple new wheel programmes quickly without repeat capital investment. The company says that it has refined a process that generates “an infinite variety of styles from a single forged tool” through variations in design, machining and finishing. Using this process, Alcoa believes it can produce products that are amongst the strongest, lightest wheels available, but with the structural integrity to meet the toughest fatigue requirements. In terms of finishing too, Alcoa’s patented Dura-Bright surface treatment technology allows a wheel to be further differentiated not only by design and structure but also appearance and performance.

SEMA Show: Let’s Find Out What Tyre Manufacturers Want

Executives from The Tire Industry Association and the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association have met to discuss ways they can heighten the SEMA Show’s value amongst tyre manufacturers. At a press conference, representatives from the TIA and SEMA pledged to work together more closely, outlining plans for focus groups and meetings with tyre companies in order to help maximise the show’s Tires, Wheels & Equipment (TWE) section.

Hankook OE on RUF Electric Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne is possibly not the first vehicle that springs to mind when pondering environmentally friendly transport. Indeed, it is rumoured that some of the more militant green warriors would rather be harpooned by whalers than ensconce themselves within the German off-roader’s two-plus tonne bulk. But rip out the Cayenne’s sizeable petrol or diesel engine and replace it with an electrically driven system and you have another, more ocean friendly kettle of fish – the RUF Stormster. The German Porsche modifier has released a zero emission version of the SUV powered by a Siemens electric drive. Hankook’s UHP Icebear W300A SUV winter tyre in size 295/30 R 22 has been chosen as standard fitment.

Corghi Releases Artiglio 50 Successor

Corghi has released the passenger car tyre changer it hopes will “widen the success of the Artiglio 50,” the Artiglio 500. The new model has been improved on the basis of feedback from the market, resulting in what Corghi hopes will be received as “an even higher performance product.” It will be demonstrated by Apaseal at Brityrex on the 5-7 October, 2010, and will be available from February. The company will continue to provide its “Blue Light” system for wheel balancing.

Watts ‘Integrates’ Trelleborg’s French Industrial Tyre Distribution

Trelleborg Industrial Tires Europe has appointed Watts Tyre Group as the sole distributor of its industrial tyres range in France. Under the terms of the new agreement, Trelleborg Industrial Tires Europe will transfer its France-based industrial tyre operations to Watts Tyre Group. As a result of the deal, Watts will formally divide its French operations into a wholesale distribution business and a specialist service operation. The service business, which is reputed to be the largest in France, will trade under the Interfit name. Observers suggest that, together with the Trelleborg distribution agreement, this will help differentiate Watts service and distribution operations and therefore help strengthen the service propostion.

According to Trelleborg, the new strategy will yield “overall advantages to the French customers.” For its part, Watts’ official statement on the matter said: “Watts will integrate Trelleborg’s industrial tyres activities with their own and will now distribute Trelleborg tyre products alongside the Watts product range.”

Recession-hit Motorists Skimp On Maintenance, Says Survey

Motorists may be neglecting essential vehicle maintenance in an effort to reduce their expenditure during the recession, according to research. Car expert Glass's has conducted a survey which reveals that 46 per cent of those polled have chosen to put off servicing their car or paying for repairs to tyres or bodywork. In addition, many are now choosing to avoid other car-related expenditures such as purchasing satnavs or alloy wheels.

New ATEQ TPMS Tools

Performance Wheels Ltd, distributors of the award winning Tyresure aftermarket tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) have been appointed as the official UK distributor for the ATEQ range of TPMS trigger tools, headed by the capable new ATEQ VT55 OBDII. ATEQ is reportedly the global number one supplier of TPMS trigger and activation tools both for OEM assembly lines and aftermarket ‘fast fit’ and tuning shops. With offices in 22 countries and over 5,000 major customers, their range is already used and approved in over 270 OEM installations worldwide. Their sales figures of over 30,000 TPMS products annually reflect the fact that they are used on almost every production line of almost every global manufacturer.

With TPMS set to become a legal requirement by 2012, company representatives said the timing of the deal is perfect. The ATEQ units simply plug into any cars OBDII port to allow the unit to interrogate and update the integrated central electronics system to ‘marry’ any new TPMS sensors to the car. Not only is the ATEQ hardware compatible with ALL currently known TPMS sensors, but it also has in-built synchronisation software that ensures that it stays up to date with all new TPMS sensors introduced each year. Already in use at franchise level with manufacturers like Chrysler and Peugeot, the tool can communicate with manufacturers’ systems like Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan to name but a few.

Sicam Announces New Wheel Balancer, Automatic Lever System, Wheel Aligner

Sicam has announced the release of two new products: the SBM V80 compact wheel balancer for car and light industrial vehicle wheels, and the SA 830 D3 wheel aligner. In over 30 years in business, Sicam has earned great esteem among producer of tools and equipment for tyre changer and balancing machines, befitting its location in the Industrial area of Correggio – a place the company calls the “home of tyre changers”. In 1975, Sicam launched the first car Tyre Changer, FALCO F9/20A model, a forerunner of its main range of garage equipments. Thanks to innovative ideas and ambitious projects, Sicam says it has earned relevant market shares both in the domestic market and the international one. The Trade Group Expands Private Brand Trademaster Garage Equipment Range

Not All Balancers Are Equal

For almost 20 years, Rema Tip Top International has been the distributor of Equal Tire Performance; the revolutionary method of balancing wheels and tyres for trucks, light trucks and motorcycles. Corniche to Premiere “Vegas” Alloy at Essen Motor Show

Swiss wheel manufacturer, Corniche has announced that it will launch its new light alloy wheel at the Essen Motor Show (Hall 2, Stand 314). Vegas, states the company, delivers a modern interpretation of the classical five-star wheel; “not only the five double spokes, but also the lowered centre renders a dynamic character. The multi-part look and the high-gloss finished rim well reflecting the spokes, enhance the vibrant appearance.” The wheel is, states Corniche, “made for style-conscious drivers who put special emphasis on an elegant performance and appreciate the cosmopolitan design language of the model.” It will be available in sizes: 8.5×19, 9.5×19, 8.5×20 and 10×20 inches.

Michelin’s Agricultural Tyre Training Course Gets City & Guilds Approval

Michelin’s latest agricultural tyre training course, which is run at the Company’s Training Centre in Stoke-on-Trent, has gained City & Guilds approval. The Agricultural Tyre technical course is designed for tyre trade personnel and other people involved in the sales, maintenance and specification of agricultural tyres. It is offered to new recruits to the industry as well as giving experienced personnel the opportunity to receive formal training on a wide range of agricultural tyre-related topics.
