Michelin video highlights importance of fitting the right tyre

Tyres, observes Michelin, are often seen as black, round objects that keep expensive alloy wheels off the ground – but not many drivers appreciate the benefits of choosing the right tyres for their car and style of driving. To address is, the tyre maker has interviewed several Audi Sport drivers and race engineers to find out why they choose to fit Michelin tyres and why fitting the correct tyres is important from a racing and road car point of view. Wheelwright launches 2012 Calibre Couture wheel range

Kent-based distributor Wheelwright has launched the Calibre Couture range onto the UK market. The company said the collection of diverse designs would sit above the firm’s Calibre portfolio; the Couture range is aimed at the upper end of the vehicle parc, with several distinguished designs and fitments.

Performance Wheels releases Fondmetal 7900

The sole UK distributor of Fondmetal wheels has announced details of the latest design from the Italian manufacturer: the 7900. Performance Wheels says the five-spoke rim contains construction and material technology developed by Fondmetal in its extensive original equipment manufacturer and motorsport portfolio, which extends to Formula One.

2011 a ‘record year’ for Titan

Titan International has recorded a record fourth quarter and full-year 2011. The US firm says its year to date 2011 sales were the highest in company history and increased 69 per cent year-on-year to US$1.487 billion. Gross profit for 2011 amounted to $232.1 million, or 15.6 per cent of net sales, a year-on-year rise of 123.0 per cent. Net income for the year was $58.2 million, compared to a loss of $5.9 million during the 2010 financial year. Fourth quarter results tell a similar story: Sales during the three months to 31 December came to $402.9 million, up from $232.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2010. Income from operations increased from $16.2 million in the final quarter of 2010 to $58.5 million in the fourth quarter of last year.

YHI International posts record net profit

Singaporean tyre, wheel and battery distributor and manufacturer, YHI International posted record net profits of S$41.1 million in 2011, though profit margin dwindled a percentage point on lower margins in its manufacturing business segment. The company distributes Yokohama, Nexen and Nankang tyres and Enkei, OZ and Konig wheels, among other brands, across south-east Asia. Executive chairman and Group managing director, Richard Tay said “despite the global economic uncertainties and strong competition, we have achieved excellent financial results… We are on track in executing our five-year business expansion plan (FY2011-FY2015) to grow our manufacturing and distribution businesses, and strengthen our multi-brand, multi-category and multi-product sales initiatives for all YHI’s sales offices and appointed distributors worldwide.”

MWS launches next generation Xbrite finish

Motor Wheel Service has launched its “next generation Xbrite” single part, transparent finish. The protective coating was specially developed for MWS, offering what the Wythenshawe-based distributor calls “the highest levels of corrosion resistance and unrivalled shine for xlite forged aluminium wheels”.

Haweka UK offers free CV alignment checks

Haweka UK has announced that it will offer one free alignment check to dealers and CV/PSV operators with over 20 vehicles. The promotion is to encourage those fleets considering bringing wheel alignment in-house, and will feature Haweka’s new Axis200 wheel alignment machine. Every free check undertaken Haweka will provide a detailed print out to the customer of adjustments required and any necessary recommendations.

In a first for Renault Sport in Australia, Bridgestone tyres will be fitted to the gloss black 18” Interlagos wheels of the company’s new Clio RS Angel & Demon. 3rd Guangrao tyre exhibition to be held in May

The third China (Guangrao) International Rubber Tire & Auto Accessory Exhibition will be held in Guangrao International Exhibition Center in Shandong Province in China on between 15 and 17 May 2012. According to the show’s organisers, preparations related to investment and promotional work are currently in progress.

Maxion Wheels is born – Hayes Lemmerz acquisition finalised

On 2 February Brazilian firm Iochpe-Maxion S.A. announced its acquisition of wheel manufacturer Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc has been finalised. The company has now established a new combined global wheel business, Maxion Wheels, which will be headed up by former Hayes Lemmerz chief operating officer Fred Bentley. In his new role of Maxion Wheels’ chief executive officer, Bentley will report directly to Dan Ioschpe, chief executive officer of Iochpe-Maxion. The business will have its headquarters in Northville, Michigan, USA.

Wheelwright to launch refreshed e-Commerce website

UK wheel firm, Wheelwright has announced a change to its website, on which it will offer “direct from manufacturer” purchasing for the end-user. Transactions made through the site will be fulfilled by Wheelwright dealers, either via post, or in person at the dealer’s premises. The Kent-based firm has spent the last 12 months developing a digital sales solution in conjunction with Shopatron, the US-based software company, making Wheelwright one of the first e-Tailers to use the company’s services. The new system is due to go live on 1 March.

OZ selected as Ferrari F1 wheel supplier

The Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 car scheduled to be launched tomorrow (an event postponed due to heavy snowfalls) will be fitted with wheels produced by the rim manufacturer OZ. The Italian wheel maker has served as a supplier to numerous top Formula 1 teams for a number of years now, but this is its first Ferrari engagement – previously the Ferrari team was supplied by the BBS brand. The agreement between OZ and Ferrari covers a three-year period and the wheels supplied will sport the famous yellow OZ logo, a design that harks back to the one used in the early Eighties.

NDI appoints Australian AP+ distributor

Denmark’s Nordisk Dæk Import A/S (NDI), developer and manufacturer of the AP Wheels range, has appointed a new exclusive Australian distributor for its AP+ Dual wheels line-up. As of January 2012 Armstrong Tyres has taken on this role; the company, which is based in the state of Victoria, has been active in the agricultural sector for more than 65 years and supplies tyre and wheel combination for a variety of farm-related applications.
