Calibre launches Friction wheel

The Calibre wheel brand has launched its latest design, Friction, which incorporates motorsport design cues and fine paint detailing. The wheel’s hot blue candy highlights on each spoke edge contrast sharply with the deep black paintwork and, using paint technology developed for US showcars, are particularly prevalent under flash lighting or in sunlight. Available in both 7×17” and 8×18” fitments in both four and five stud PCDs, the Friction is a two stage heat-treated wheel with key PCDs, including most Euro, VAG, Jap and tuner cars, covered.

Fuel campaigners lobby MPs

On 21st November, as part of the on-going build-up of political pressure in advance of the Autumn Statement, the Road Haulage Association joined fuel campaigners at the Palace of Westminster to tell MPs, face to face, about the hardship being forced upon their constituents as a result of high fuel prices.

"Each of the supporting groups gave a short presentation to the MPs present", said RHA Chief Executive Geoff Dunning. "We were able to provide them with a stark list of facts and figures that really pushed the message home. The good news is that those present certainly appeared to be genuinely concerned".

Hofmann Power Weight to ‘Colour Up’ wheels at Essen Show

Hofmann Power Weight has shared some details of its plans to exhibit at the Essen Motor Show from 1 – 9 December 2012. Amongst other things, automobile enthusiasts will be able to purchase the appropriate adhesive weight for their wheel rims from the Hofmann stand. Exhibiting at the 2012 show will be Hofmann’s first appearance at the event, which is seen as a key meeting point for the tuning fraternity.

Timber firm reduces downtime with Michelin, CTI devices

Southwaite-based timber harvesting, marketing, and haulage company Sheffield & Co Ltd has reduced the frequency of annual tyre-related breakdowns from 35 to two. The company says the reduction is due to 18 months of work with Michelin technical manager Dan Lamb to adopt a bespoke tyre policy, with different pressures tailored for on-road and forestry work.

Wheelwright displays new products, demonstrates website

Wheel supplier, Wheelwright said that its expectations had been exceeded at Brityrex, having chosen to demonstrate the features of its new website and the benefits of premium quality wheels. The company also took the show as an opportunity to communicate its current corporate logo and branding, having removed the “Alcar” portion of its name in 2011. Speaking with Tyres & Accessories, Wheelwright managing director, Kevin Greer said it was important to get out in the market to do this because of the residual “old-style marketing” still present in the UK, but mainly to emphasise Wheelwright’s “differentiation from other brands” with what he described as a “modern, clinical” CI strategy.

Treadsetters increasing international profile at Brityrex

Treadsetters (part of the TIA Group) says it took part in this year's Brityrex to promote the company's three leading brands – Torque, Hifly and TIA Wheels – further, having supported the event for many years. The Telford based tyre wholesaler said Brityrex 2012 joins a number of other international shows at which it has presented a high corporate profile this year, including Essen, Russia, Tyrexpo Africa and events in Tanzania and Panama. The company says the events are part of the group’s growing image “as a global player in tyres and wheels”.

MWSD rewarded for CV wheel safety initiative

John Ellis, managing director of Motor Wheel Service Distribution has been presented with the Northwest Automotive Alliance’s Business Excellence Small and Medium Enterprise Project of the Year Award. The company has been highly commended for its work on the issue of commercial vehicle wheel safety with the Department for Transport, European Union and main CV industry bodies. Maxion Wheels doubles capacity in Turkey

The world’s largest vehicle wheel manufacturer, Maxion Wheels, has completed its project to double production of cast aluminium wheels in Manisa, Turkey, near the city of Izmir. With this week’s official opening ceremony for the facility – which is promoted as a second plant – annual capacity has increased to four million units. This means the Manisa site is not only the company’s largest in this product segment, rather it is – along with the Borbet facility in Bad Langensalza, Germany – the industry’s largest plant in Europe.

World record for Thule

Have you been put off buying snow chains for your car because you cannot face the hassle of fitting them to the wheels? Thule, the global manufacturer of car accessories came up with a spectacular demonstration of just how easy it is to fit their snow chains – and grabbed themselves a Guinness World Record into the bargain. In early October, the Lecco Ice Sports Complex in Italy played host to the record-breaking demonstration, with 24 Citroen C4 Aircross cars positioned on the ice in three rows of eight. Thule Easy-fit snow chains were positioned one metre from each wheel and, on the starting signal from Guinness World Record judge Lorenzo Veltri, a team of 12 people tried to fit as many snow chains as possible in 60 seconds.
