Distributor of Xlite and Xlite+ forged aluminium wheels, Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has rebranded as MWheels. The move positions the distributor’s European operations under one banner, having established a German company with the MWheels name at the beginning of the year. The new name is in full effect from Monday 22 May 2017, with the name and logo immediately visible on its reworked website, marketing literature and communications. The new corporate identity will be introduced across all product packaging over the coming months. The logo will also replace the Chevron as MWheels’ quality stamp on its steel, Xlite and Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels.

Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has appointed Frank Richter as European sales manager, as the Manchester-based wheel distributor continues to strengthen pan-European operations from its recently formed German operation, MWheels GmbH. Richter will assume key aftermarket commercial responsibilities, working closely with key retail and distribution partners throughout Germany from the company’s Cologne office. He will also offer operational, technical and wheel safety advice to bus, coach and truck fleets.
Alloy wheel protection system manufacturer AlloyGator states that the newly reconfigured driving test could lead to opportunities for workshops and garages. Coming into force on 4 December, the new test removes the reverse around a corner manoeuvre, a move which AlloyGator believes could lead to even more damaged wheels.
The restructuring of Xlite forged aluminium wheel distributor Motor Wheel Service Distribution’s management team is characterised by company founder John Ellis as “the key to this year”. Add the establishment of the company’s German operations, MWheels GmbH – an important anchor in Europe’s leading market given both MWSD’s pan-European strategy and the current period of flux in Anglo-European relations – the introduction of a new generation of forged aluminium products, and the impending implementation of the EU Roadworthiness Act in May 2017 and it all adds up to an organisation entering the next stage of its development.

Dennison Trailers has created a special one-off gold trailer to celebrate production of its 50,000th unit, with additional sparkle provided by Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels. Wolfrace’s latest product to emerge from its ‘skunk works’ development department is the Aero, a ‘turbine style’ alloy that’s available in the company’s customary wide range of sizes, offsets, PCDs and finishes. This wheel is suitable for both passenger car and commercial applications thanks to its load indexing.
In 2015, the production of STARCO GS wheels was transferred from Switzerland to the STARCO factory in Beli Manastir, Croatia. At the time, the facility was only equipped to manufacture wheels up to a maximum diameter of 30.5-inches, however demand from customers – both existing and new – has necessitated the installation of new facilities to handle the production of larger wheel sizes. STARCO reports that, after searching the market for suitable equipment, it set about developing its own solution.
Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has invested over £100,000 in fitting cages as the company expands its complete tyre and wheel fitting service to meet growing customer demand.
The Ahcon Safety Inflation Cages, which brings MWSD’s annual fitting capacity up to 100,000 units, are computer-controlled with the automated operation ensuring accurate, safe inflation up to the exact tyre pressure specified by the manufacturer.
The complete takeover of Alcar Slovakia, s.r.o., which took effect on 19 January, is said to “underline the Alcar Group’s engagement in the Slovakian market”. The move saw Alcar increase its stake in the Slovakian business from 51 per cent by a further 49 percentage points, buying out the share that was previously held by the LF Group s.r.o. as minority shareholder.
To coincide with this year’s National Pothole Day (today – Monday 16 January), AlloyGator is launching a special competition to save drivers from having to put up with unsightly scuffed and scratched alloy wheels on their prized motors, often caused by potholes and kerbs.
Around €150,000 (£131,000) is being invested in STARCO’s tyre and wheel production facility in Crewe as part of a €2.5 million project to strengthen manufacturing capabilities in Europe. The Danish company’s site in the UK will receive new equipment that will automate the polymer wheel and puncture-proof polyurethane tyre production that takes place there. A STARCO representative told Tyrepress.com the installation of this new machinery will lift capacity and will also facilitate the development of new designs that ensure the plant’s continued competitiveness.
In response to weakness in the mining market, key North American wheel production is to be relocated from Titan International’s manufacturing facility in Saltville, Virginia to its wheel division headquarters in Quincy, Illinois. The company reports this measure is being taken in order to “take advantage of production capacities.”
