(Akron/Tire Review) Alcoa Forged Specialty Wheels has expanded its product warranty to a lifetime-limited warranty covering all of its automotive aftermarket wheels. The new warranty program went into effect 1 September. Under the extended warranty, Alcoa said the warranty covers the life of the wheel against defects in materials or workmanship, and will repair or replace a defective product that fails in normal use and service.
According to FCC records, Bridgestone is close to releasing a wireless tyre pressure monitoring system. The system uses sensors embedded just under the tyre rim to sense tyre pressure and temperature to a handheld device. A 1.5 second alarm is sounded if the pressure is too high or too low.
Aftermarket parts supplier Motaquip has launched two new catalogues. The first of these is the company’s 2006/2007 Batteries Catalogue, which provides Motaquip’s factor customers with details of two-, three- and four-year warranty products, covering 97 per cent of cars on UK roads. The company has also introduced a range of Midtonics battery testers and chargers.
Alcoa’s new Dura-Bright wheels with XBR technology provide customers with wheels that are 53 per cent more reflective and with 74 per cent more image clarity, according to the wheel manufacturer. In fact from 1 September Alcoa Wheel Products will officially begin transitioning from its original Dura-Bright wheels to new Dura-Bright wheels with XBR technology. Alcoa says its new treatment means brake dust, grime and oil residue wash off quickly and easily with a spray of soap and water. As before, Dura-Bright wheels with XBR technology combat liquid road de-icers and chemicals.
Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc has announced that its wholly-owned German subsidiary, Hayes Lemmerz Holding GmbH, has entered into a license agreement with Tolyatinskiy Zavod Stalnih Kolyos (TZSK) of Togliatti, Russia, a manufacturer of steel wheels. Under terms of the agreement, Hayes Lemmerz has granted a license to TZSK to use certain technology in the manufacture and sale of certain passenger car steel wheels to specific Russian vehicle manufacturers.
In response to customer and market demand, Alcoa Wheel Products will exhibit its new WorkHorse wheel for European construction vehicles with disc brakes. More specifically, this new wheel was designed with no ventilation holes to help protect the drive/front axle disc brakes from sand and gravel. Alcoa believes this new design will provide its customers with added value through the reduction of maintenance costs, increased brake life, and improved performance. This wheel is already approved and available on DaimlerChrysler construction vehicles.
After comprehensive tests, Audi opted to fit is first ever SUV (the Q7) with three tyre lines made by Germany’s leading tyre manufacturer. Continental will be supplying summer and cold weather tyres for the vehicles in five sizes and dimensions ranging from 18 to 20 inches.
After tests carried out in accordance with ISO 9227/DIN 50021 SD (salt spray fog effect over 240 hours on steel rims) the manufacturer says its lead-free, zinc coated impact weights are “superior.” Unlike uncoated products the Banner weights showed only slight traces of salt and no white or red rust.
Alcoa announced today that it will become the first aluminium wheel manufacturer to buy back its used wheels. Alcoa’s new “Value for Life” programme for Fleets and Owner-Operators in the UK will come into effect this month. Jenson Button scored his first Formula One victory last weekend in what Michelin called a “topsy-turvy Hungarian Grand Prix.” Michelin’s partners dominated the early stages of the rain-affected race and Button swept to the front of the field on lap 52, when world championship leader Fernando Alonso stopped with a rear wheel problem.
(Akron/Tire Review) Hankook Tire America Corp. has introduced the Hankook Ventus AS RH07, an all-season performance line intended for direct OE replacement and for plus-sizing light truck/SUV applications. Hankook said the new Ventus AS RH07 will initially be available in 14 sizes, covering 17- to 22-inch wheel diameters.
Following achievements in Motorsport activity throughout 2004 and 2005, Italian tyre manufacturer, Marangoni, is now targeting further successes in 2006 with participation in three European championships. Firstly there is the Italian Hillclimb Championship.
