VTS Testing 2 New Beaded Edge Tyres

Vintage Tyre Supplies is the process of testing two new Waymaster Cord beaded edge tyres. Recognising that beaded edge products are increasing hard to come by, it apparently was an easy decision for the company to begin making its own products for this niche segment. “It seemed quite natural for us to take the brave step and develop our own brand, the,” company representatives reported in a customer newsletter.

The two new tyres currently being tested are: 760 x 90 and 895 x 135, which will soon be added to the range which also includes: 710×90, 810×90, 815×105, and 820×120.

Maywood Introduces Latest Hofmann Lift

Maywood Equipment Group, sole UK importers of Hofmann lifts, has announced the launch of the Service lift 4000. The first new lift that Hofmann has introduced for four years, the Service lift 4000 has undergone extensive design and field tests to make ensure quality meets the company’s high standards.

The Service lift 4000 is an electro-hydraulic full-length platform scissor lift designed for general service work and wheel alignment. It has a 4 tonne capacity and the height compacts to just 180mm. Safety photocells for synchronisation control and stability at maximum height and incorporated into the Service lift 4000, as is a manual lowering device for use in the event of a power outage.

New Sizes For US Yokohama OTR Lines

Yokohama Tire Corp. is unveiling four new OTR sizes at the upcoming 2008 Conexpo-Con/Agg Show in Las Vegas. The new sizes are being added to Yokohama’s RT41T (29.5R25 and 23.5R25) and the RB31T (26.5R25 and 29.5R25). “The RB31 and RT41 have an incredible amount of technology built into them,” said Gary Nash, director of Yokohama’s OTR tyre sales. “These advancements translate into improved performance and longer tyre life, which means equipment spending more time on the job making businesses profitable.”

Alcoa Integrates Wheels into Transport Products Unit

Alcoa has taken the decision to merge its “Wheel Products” and “Auto and Truck” division into a new “Wheel and Transportation Products” business unit. Kevin B. Kramer (48), who left Goodyear for Alcoa four years ago, will be president of the new business unit, headquartered in Cleveland. Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products employs 2,800 people in 30 locations.

“Wheel and Transportation Products” is divided into three sub-areas Transportation Products (formerly Car and Truck Structure), commercial vehicle wheels and passenger car wheels. In the accompanying press release is of cast aluminium wheels (Alcoa still produces at two locations) is no longer the wheels, but of forged aluminium wheels. Transportation Products will now be led by Scott Kerns, formerly in charge of marketing at Alcoa Wheels. Vice President and General Manager Tim Myers (42) will continue to lead the commercial vehicle wheel division, and Michael Parnell will continue to run the auto wheel division.

Wheels From Wolfrace

Wolfrace has announced two new wheels for the UK market, plus the return of a rejuvenated old favourite.
The old favourite is the Spyder alloy wheel, which proved to be extremely popular when it was first launched last year and the restyled 2008 version looks set to follow suit.

As with the original version, the Spyder keeps its hard edged styling and dished appearance; it’s a wheel designed to look great on small hot hatches and will complement the lines of most larger saloon cars.
The wheel is finished in black with a highly polished spoke surface and the spokes continue onto the dish of the wheel and finish at the polished rim edge.
Spyder is available in 7×16″, 7×17″ and 7.5×18″ sizes in four and five stud fitments.

Accuride Named Official Great Dane Supplier

In late February Accuride Corporation’s Wheel division was named as the preferred aluminium wheel supplier for US truck trailer manufacturer Great Dane Trailers.

“We are extremely pleased to be named Great Dane’s preferred forged aluminium wheel supplier,” said Rick Schomer, Accuride’s senior vice president of Sales and Marketing. “For several years, Accuride has served as Great Dane’s preferred steel wheel supplier. By sourcing both its steel and aluminium wheels from one supplier, Great Dane is able to streamline its supply base.”

Bike Tyrestore Launches Moto-Vate Loyalty Scheme

Leading UK two-wheel tyre wholesaler, Bike Tyrestore, has launched a new loyalty scheme called Moto-Vate, which the company says will enable “employees at all levels, to gain rewards in return for nothing more than loyalty to Bike Tyrestore.” Rewards include fitness club passes, shopping travel and lifestyle benefits.

New Lenso BSX Wheel

Revolution Motorstore has unveiled its latest wheel, which the company describes as “a retro classic” – the Lenso BSX. According to the promotional literature, the new wheel harks back to the glory days of the DTM and exudes “Old-School cool,” with it’s pseudo split-rim effect and highly polished rim. The new Lenso BSX in 15 or 16-inch sizes, with either 25mm or 38mm offset available. Prices start at just £99 inc. VAT for the 15-inch version and even custom drilled orders can usually be turned round in 72 hours. Revolution Motorstore is also offering a bespoke custom drilling service.

Luxury Wheels Release MHT Vortex and Annex. Ranges

UK-based wheel importer, Luxury Wheels, has released two new wheels into the market. These two new styles from MHT, combine West-Coast style with high build-quality and finish. Alcoa Releases Even Lighter Wheels

In March of this year, Alcoa Wheels will be 60 years old. To mark this anniversary, Alcoa Wheel Products Europe has succeeded in making their most popular size truck wheels even lighter than before. The weight decrease applies to the following sizes:

22.5 x 8.25 from 24.18 kg to 22.79 kg = – 1.39 kg
22.5 x 9.00 from 24.73 kg to 23.21 kg = – 1.52 kg
19.5 x 7.50 from 18.67 kg to 17.76 kg = – 0.91 kg
19.5 x 8.25 from 19.23 kg to 18.54 kg = – 0.69 kg

The first lightweight wheels were produced in the Alcoa plant in Hungary on 1 February 2008. The first forged aluminium truck wheel was made by Alcoa in Cleveland/USA in 1948, and they have not stopped reinventing it since.

Toyo Adds 30 Sizes to Lines

Toyo Tire USA Corp. has added 30 new sizes to its lines of passenger and light truck/SUV tyres, including to its Proxes, Open Country and Versado products. The new sizes are primarily OE fitments and plus sizes for custom wheel/tyre applications, and have been rolled out since November 2007.

The new sizes include:

• Proxes 4 – 275/25R26

• Proxes T1R – 295/25ZR22

Snap-on Introduces Wheel Alignment Guide

Snap-On Equipment has published a “comprehensive guide to wheel alignment,” which aims to simplify the complex subject. The guide provides detailed information and illustrations on a number of topics, ranging from pre-alignment checks, types of aligner and workshop bay requirements, through to alignment terminology, such as toe-in an toe-out and adjustment methods.

Chris Behan, general manager, Snap-on Equipment, comments: “There’s no doubt that more sophisticated chassis technology combined with the growing damage risk from our pothole ridden roads has made the importance of correct wheel alignment even more significant. Wheel alignment is a complex subject and I hope our new guide simplifies some of the complexity.”

Wheel Washer Takes To The Track

The Drester Wheel Washer – distributed by Beissbarth UK – has always been a firm favourite with customers who want that show-room sparkle. But now the Drester has moved from the showroom to the race circuit.

It turns out that the Drester Wheel Washer is the preferred choice for the highly successful RML team, who are targeting more glory in 2008 as they aim to add to their tally of 15 titles over the last 10 years. The team is gearing up for its challenge for WTCC glory following its best-ever season last year. RML will also compete at Le Mans itself and in the Le Mans Series – the scene of their most recent success in 2007.
