The latest wheel design from Dotz is the Exile, a product promoting as one that should “tick all of the boxes for the burgeoning OEM+ crowd.” A press statement accompanying the Exile’s release states that its “stunning design, deeply sculpted centre bowl and perfectly proportioned spokes provide a fresh new take on the classic ‘Y’ spoke genre.”
Michelin is hoping to walk away with its 13th consecutive win at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. To achieve this, the tyre maker says its engineers, chemists, developers and technicians have prepared a new line-up of even more durable tyres. Working with its partners, Michelin has focused on increasing tyre life without sacrificing performance in other areas. This year the company’s stated goal at the 24 hour race is to quadruple the length of each stint for prototypes and to double them for GT cars.
Titan International, Inc. has approved a quarterly cash dividend of $.005 (one half cent) per common share for the second quarter of 2010. The cash dividend is payable 15 July 2010, to stockholders of record on 30 June 2010.
A tyre dealer in East Lake, near Chattanooga, Tennessee, has been accused of paying people a reduced fee to dump used tyres, saving money by avoiding proper disposal, reports Tire Review.
Norbar has published recent test results carried out by the HSE (Health & Safety Executive). The toolmaker reports that they demonstrate that vibration exposure for operators using pneumatic torque multipliers to tighten 100 commercial vehicle wheel nuts was 10 times lower with its products than when traditional impact wrenches are used. The Norbar Pneutorque PTM-72-1350B and one other multiplier were subjected to lab and field tests by the HSE and both tools confirmed manufacturer claims of low vibration emissions.
Low vibration levels help avoid occupational risks such as VWF (vibration white finger) also known as HAVS (hand arm vibration syndrome). In addition, the Control of Vibrations at Work Regulations impose a Daily Exposure Action Value (EAV) of 2.5 m/s2, above which employers must introduce controls to eliminate or reduce exposure and provide health surveillance to operators regularly exposed to vibration that exceeds this level. According to the company, the Norbar Pneutorque pneumatic torque multiplier does not exceed 2.5 m/s2. This means there is no restriction in its use during the working day.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has been selected by Bombardier to supply tyres for the new 100-seat CRJ1000 Next Gen regional jet. The aircraft has 45 firm orders with carriers including Adria Airways and Brit Air. Dunlop Aircraft Tyres, one of two approved suppliers for the CRJ1000, will manufacture and retread the tyres at its facility in Birmingham, UK.
The failure to address a tyre-related safety weak spot may end up costing the ‘father of the Concorde’ a suspended prison sentence. Henri Perrier, now 80 years old, directed the Concorde programme at Aerospatiale from 1978 to 1994. French proescutors have accused him of ignoring warning signs from a string of incidents involving Concorde airliners before the crash near Paris in July 2000.

Wheel alignment company Supertracker has announced a new Steering Angle Sensor Reset tool to its product portfolio in order to further enhance the precise operation and technical requirements. Vehicle electronics continue to develop apace, and steering angle sensors are now a common feature on new car models. Supertracker states the tool allows any stability control electronics to operate correctly when the sensor is reset to match the correct wheel alignment settings.
Australian 4×4 magazine 4WD Action judged the Maxxis Bighorn MT-762 to be the best tyre in its recent mud tyre review. 4WD Action tested 11 tyres over five terrains to determine the best type of ‘all round’ tyre for 4×4 drivers. The 265/75R16 Bighorn emerged in equal second place overall, gaining high scores in the sand, hill climb and swerve tests, and was especially impressive in the mud. “Mud is definitely what this tyre was made for, with no clogging evident. It easily drove the bog hole at low speed the first time, scoring it a perfect 10/10,” the review reported.

As well as providing considerably more office space the modern building is said to have “much better meeting and training facilities.”
Snap-on Diagnostics has expanded its vehicle lift range with the introduction of two new alignment lifts. The new Snap-on alignment lifts are available in two versions – one with an inbuilt secondary lifting platform (pictured) and the other with flat platforms. Both lifts are electro-hydraulic and built to a very high specification. They have been designed to provide a dedicated level working platform for performing wheel geometry testing and adjustments. Each lift offers hydraulic synchronisation of the platform, front recesses for inserting of turnplates and built in rear slip plates.
