Federal fit its Couragia Mud Terrain tyres and branded livery to its sole sales distributer’s Jimmy Jeep in the recent Castrol 4×4 Jamboree in Zimbabwe. The event was held at the 4×4 Club site at Donnybrook, and “trail junky” Clarry Viljoen, sales manager from Taita Trading, ran the company’s Mud Terrain tyre to cope with tough conditions that varied between sand, dirt, hills and mud.
Continental has released the Scooty, Traily and Classic scooter tyres which will run alongside the current Twist and K62 products in the range. According to the company, all are suitable for front or rear fitment. All three new tyres will be available from mid-September.
Trelleborg Wheel Systems has introduced the Trelleborg High Knurling solution, engineered for high power tractors. Trelleborg says THK represents a “new concept” that has an advanced knurling design with a higher profile, which should improve high speed and torque performance. A new painting process will also yield greater friction between the rim and the tyre, according to the manufacturer.
SA Tyres and manufacturer Federal have hosted a riding experience for its clients and salesmen at Gerotek Testing Facility near Johannesburg, where business partners participating in the 2011 One Day Test Drive programme from all over the country. The event was designed to give dealers the opportunity to see how Federal tyres are evaluated in a test in hazardous driving conditions.
Tyresure has launched a dedicated system created specifically for the leisure and towing market. EU legislation has dictated that all passenger cars must have TPMS fitted from the factory as a legal requirement from 2012. Although this hasn’t yet been rolled out as a mandatory fitment in the leisure market and doesn’t apply to vehicles produced before this model year many industry experts feel that it is only a matter of time before safety-conscious manufacturers start including this in the options list, at least.
Motorsports wheel manufacturer Braid has released a bespoke set of forged centre-lock wheels specifically designed to fit the Ferrari F40. Dimensionally identical to the OEM equivalent, the wheels measure 8”x18” front and 13”x18” rear respectively. Braid says the wheels are cast “as a monoblock” before forging, making the wheels light and strong, and suitable for any F40 campaigning in motorsport. Braid also suggests the wheels could be used as an “everyday wheel” to protect the value and appearance of the originals.
Fashion wheel brand Calibre has released a new 18” version of its Dub wheel. The new Dub enlarges the style of the 15” version to create a design that gives a realistic pseudo-split rim appearance. The wheel measures 8” in width and is available in a variety of PCDs for five-stud fitments. Wheels can also be ordered blank to allow for custom drilling.
Tech Europe has announced the appointment of Martin Blakey as vice president of sales and marketing for Europe. According to the company, this appointment has been made to ensure that customers receive “the highest levels of service during a period of sustained growth for the Tech and Pang brands of Tyre repair products in the European markets.”
Remo Corghi, co-founder of the company that produces Corghi tyre service equipment and president of the Nexion Group, died suddenly on July 30, aged 81.
Trelleborg Wheel Systems UK Limited has moved to new premises. According to John Westwood, managing director of the UK operation, the new office at Redwing Court on Willow Farm Business Park in Castle Donington, Leicestershire “not only supports our premium brand position, but also gives easy accessibility to our customer base, supporting our expansion in the region.”

According to the UK distributor of these products, the manual contains a wealth of information about each of the tyres in the range and a very comprehensive fitment and pressure guide, the manual has the key information that dealers need.
A replacement for Michelin Guide director Jean-Luc Naret has finally been named – New Yorker Michael L. Ellis has filled the shoes vacated last December. In announcing the appointment, Michelin states that Ellis, vice-president of marketing and sales for the French manufacturer’s Two Wheel Tire Division since 2007, has “always been a food enthusiast” and previously “studied the culinary arts” in the US and Europe.
CB Skip Hire of Salisbury, Wiltshire has been fined £150,000 for failing to ensure workers’ safety after Slovakian worker Jozef Trhan was killed while inflating a tyre on one of the company’s industrial waste moving machines in February 2008. The tyre exploded after sections of the wheel Trhan had welded earlier that day came apart, causing the inner tube to explode. Salisbury Crown Court found the company had not checked Trhan had been given the training necessary to complete the tasks.

Omni United has introduced its new Radar-brand ultra high performance tyre, the Verenti R6 All-Season. The tyre will be M&S rated and is now available in sizes: 205/50R17, 215/50R17, 225/50R17, 235/45R17, and 225/40R18. Omni says the Verenti size expansion will continue throughout the rest of the year with the most popular OE and aftermarket sizes in the 17 to 20-inch wheel diameters.
