Earlier this summer Speedline Truck announced the latest extension to its range, with the addition of a new product for trailer applications. The newest wheel in the Speedline Truck portfolio is the 17.5×6.75 SLT 3086, with 10 bolt holes. The wheel is designed for trailer applications with a particular focus on low platform trailers for construction and special application transports.
The latest Trelleborg range for harvesting applications has been developed to improve productivity while respecting the environment, the Swedish tyre maker reported upon launching the all-new TM3000. The radial features the company’s BlueTire Technology, utilising the TM Blue concept – a combination of a more environmentally-friendly product and manufacturing process – introduced by Trelleborg early last year. The TM3000 will initially be available in size IF 800/70R32 CFO, and this will be followed up by three additional sizes during 2013; IF 800/70R38 CFO, IF 800/65R32 CFO and IF 1050/50R32 CFO.

The company says the agreement will help strengthen its UK distribution and support significant growth. When Rhys Millen finished his journey through the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb course in a record time of 9:46, he ran on Hankook tyres – and these tyres were wrapped around HRE Performance Wheels. The vehicle to be used in next year’s Pirelli UK Star Driver scheme has been confirmed after the Italian tyre maker reached an agreement with Citroën Racing. Contenders in the 2013 Star Driver programme will put their skills to the test behind the wheel of a 1.6 litre, turbocharged Citroën DS3 R3.
Yokohama HPT has expanded the size ranges of its Mugello and Rivage wheels in the UK. Sized from 17-20”, both wheels are available in staggered fitments to suit a wide range of cars. The Mugello is suited particularly to those requiring wider rims at the rear and is available in Hyper Silver or Matt Black. The Rivage can be specified in either Hyper Silver or Gloss Black with milled edges to the spokes.
Accuride Wheels has unveiled a new proprietary, multi-step, post-production treatment process that texturises, anodises and seals the surface of aluminium wheels. According to the Accuride Corp. subsidiary, this new ‘Accu-Armor’ treatment gives aluminium wheels highly a high level of resistance to scratching and scuffing and filiform corrosion from the high- and low-pH chemicals commonly used in truck washes, and common chemicals used in de-icing road surfaces. Accu-Armor aluminium wheels also are said to be durable under extended exposure to heat and UV light, will not chalk or fade, and are easy to clean.
Two-wheel tyre specialist Metzeler has launched a new scooter product at the Olympic Games. The Feelgreen is being used by some journalists as they move around the London venues; the tyre has been chosen as original equipment by BMW for its electric C evolution scooter, which was introduced at an international press conference on the opening day of the Games. The new scooter will be fitted with the Metzeler Feelgreen in size 120/70 R15 on the front and 160/60 R15 on the rear, and will be sold from 2014 as exclusive original equipment on the BMW electric scooter, as well as in the replacement market.
The US National Highway Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a recall notice from North American truck manufacturer Navistar. According to the company, the problem is that “over time, due to corrosion and fatigue, the wheels may crack, resulting in possible wheel separation from the vehicle.”
Titan International, Inc. has signed an agreement to purchase a majority ownership interest in Planet Corporation Group of Companies (“Planet”) in an all-cash transaction. Planet includes National Tyres, Acme Wheel, Resource Tyre and Choice Tyres Wholesalers and is based in Perth, Australia. The purchase price and revenue information will be released upon closing which is expected to be within 10 days.
Ceat Ltd says it has “aggressive growth plans” for its Indian retail network, and as part of this the tyre maker opened its first outlet in the country’s largest city yesterday. The first Ceat Shoppe to enter operation in Mumbai was officially inaugurated by controversial politician Abu Azmi, Maharashtra Samajwadi Party state president, along with Ceat executive director Arnab Banerjee.
Pirelli’s rally tyres were tested by sodden conditions at Saturday’s rain-soaked RSAC Scottish Rally, round five of the MSA Scottish Rally Championship. Reigning British rally champions, David Bogie and co-driver Kevin Rae, charged to their fourth victory of the season at the wheel of a Pirelli KM6-equipped Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.
Continental says it has expanded its research and development centre in Hanover-Stöcken and installed a new facility that can inspect the insides of passenger car and commercial vehicle tyres more quickly and efficiently. The advantage offered by the LINAC (Linear Electronic Accumulation) computer tomography facility, says Conti, is that it enables internal tyre components to be tested under conditions that replicate on-road driving conditions.
