Avon Tyres backs National Family Week

British tyre manufacturer, Avon Tyres, has announced it will be the tyre partner to National Family Week 2010, giving away 70,000 tyre safety kits with its tyres. This year’s event is the UK’s largest celebration of family life, packing in thousands of events, activities, competitions and promotions, all to encourage families to spend more quality time together. Backed by all major political parties, National Family Week will take place during summer half term holiday, between 31 May and 6 June.

Speakers Confirmed for Tyre Recovery Association Forum Day

The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) has confirmed the speakers for its forthcoming annual forum day on Friday 9 July. This year’s line up is said to include “a wide range of discussions from some of the industry’s leading organisations.” The theme for the event is ‘Regulation and Opportunity’ and will look at the many challenges and infrastructure threats faced by the industry, along with case studies from companies who have overcome many of these issues. Representatives from tyre manufacturers, retailers, law enforcement officials, collectors and re-processors will attend the event, helping to ensure a lively discussion takes place which benefits the entire industry.

“The programme of speakers we have managed to secure for the forum day will make it of great interest and benefit to everyone associated with the tyre industry,” comments Peter Taylor OBE, TRA secretary general. “Not only will delegates be able to hear about the future of tyre recycling but examples of best practice will be shared and participants will be able to join in discussions and share their own thoughts and experiences.”

Online Buyers Less Satisfied With In-Store Research

Tire Review reports news of a US study conducted by Forrester Research that suggests consumers who research products in stores before buying products on a retail website are less satisfied with the experience than consumers who do the opposite. The findings were based on online surveys of 4,723 US consumers conducted in August 2009.

Pirelli Chosen for F1 Tyre Supply – News Reports

The website Motorsport.com claims Italian media sources are reporting Pirelli’s selection as sole Formula One tyre supplier in 2011 and beyond. It states that Autosprint and Italiaracing say the Italian tyre maker has been selected by the teams and F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone as Bridgestone’s replacement.

Grouptyre’s Continental World Cup Promotion Entering Final Stretch

As tyrepress.com reported back in April, Grouptyre has been running a promotion alongside World Cup sponsor Continental; the wholesale group says that it has “seen a huge response” to the promotion, which boasts a first prize of a Sony 46” full HD LCD TV complete with Home Cinema system. Runners up will receive smaller Sony LCD TVs, or Continental World Cup goodie bags containing an Official World Cup replica match ball, a FIFA World Cup branded polo shirt and rucksack. Online Retailer Says Bridgestone Motorcycle Tyres are Most Popular

Burnley-based online tyre retailer, Fast Tyres Direct has issued a statement suggesting that Bridgestone is having a particularly good season in the motorbike segment, with “88 per cent of [motorbike tyre] sales through the website in the last three months”. The website offers a range of ten motorcycle and car tyre brands, covering all price segments.

Livingston Autoparts Opens Parts e-shop

Livingston Autoparts, one of the largest independent distributors of motor components in Scotland, has launched a new e-shop to support its expansion into retail parts and accessories sales. The new website features over 400,000 products including spare parts, accessories, car care, consumables and tools. Customers are able to browse categories with full-colour photographs or use the integrated VRM catalogue to identify products. The e-shop is open 24/7, and customers can place secure orders using credit cards or PayPal for next day delivery.

New Website Gives Motorists “Plenty of Reasons” to Visit First Stop

As part of the new look Bridgestone has given its First Stop tyre network, the tyre major has created a dynamic new consumer website. The site, firststop-tyreexperts.co.uk, features a new style of navigation that Bridgestone says is designed to “drive users to their nearest dealer” by enabling them to locate the closest tyre centre simply by entering their postcode. It also offers a product guide that includes detailed specification across the Bridgestone range and gives users the ability to narrow their tyre search according to the vehicle they drive. Alternatively, a new tyre selector function allows drivers to find the correct tyres for a car simply by entering its registration number.

Kwik-Fit Adds Uniroyal to Tyre Range

According to Met Office statistics taken over a three-decade period, the UK on average experiences rain on 154 days of the year, and even during May, allegedly our “driest” month, more than 66mm of rain can be expected to fall. It is little surprise then that Kwik-Fit has decided to add Uniroyal to its tyre line-up. Uniroyal tyres, designed with wet conditions in mind, will be available through all Kwik-Fit outlets and through the company’s website.

D&G Autocare Launches Online Retail Site

Independent garage group D&G Autocare, which operates seven locations in Scotland, is launching its own online retail portal. The new business goes by the name Net-A-Tyre and is accessible at www.netatyre.co.uk. According to the company, the online portal “offers customers the chance to buy tyres simply and easily online and have them fitted where they want at one of the company’s UK wide network of independent fitting agents.” D&G Autocare adds that it seeks to expand this already growing network.

Pirelli Offers Personalised Motorbike Tyres

Pirelli Motorcycle has launched what is says is the first motorcycle tyre riders can customise with their own initials, name, individual words or whole messages. According to the company, consumers that wish to stamp their own mark on their tyres can also reproduce images and logos, which can then be applied to the tyres’ sidewalls with special labels created by the rider. The sides of the new Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres were designed to accommodate the adhesive labels that anyone can design on Pirelli’s website and receive at home.

Continental Clarifies Tyre Labelling Report

Continental Tyre Group, the UK arm of tyre and automotive supplier Continental AG, has sought to clarify comments made on motoring website motortorque.com which criticised forthcoming tyre labelling laws. In an interview published on 4 May 2010 the website said UK managing director David Smith described the planned labelling system as “not worth the paper it’s printed on.”

However, Continental representatives said this was a misunderstanding of what was said: “In a response to a recent direct question regarding the upcoming EU label, the intention was to highlight the benefit to the consumer of the more encompassing tests carried out and published by a number of European motoring magazines and motoring organisations. It was also intended to highlight the consistent leading performance of the major tyre brands in these tests, regardless of which part of the world in which they are produced.”
