Michelin Offers US Splash-Reducing XZA3

The newest Michelin XZA3 features the Michelin’s Antisplash deflectors on both sidewalls. First offered in 2006, Michelin’s Antisplash feature lowers the trajectory of water spray off of the tyres, reducing the amount of water hitting the windshields of nearby cars or other trucks.

“Customers have come to love the XZA3 tire for its performance on the highway,” said Marc Laferriere, vice president of marketing for Michelin Americas Truck Tires. “Now, with Antisplash technology, we have significantly increased visibility for both truckers and those motorists driving by trucks in wet conditions, especially during a rainstorm.” The new XZA3 Antisplash, available in size 275/80R22.5 LRH, carries Michelin’s seven year, 70,000-mile, three-retread warranty. Toyo Releases Revised Performance Forecasts

Toyo Tire & Rubber has revised its consolidated and non-consolidated performance forecasts for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008 (the period between April 1, 2008 to September 30, 2008). The revisions replace the forecasts originally released on August 12 and May 13 respectively.

Mickey Thompson Adds SideBiter Wheel

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has introduced the Mickey Thompson SideBiter wheel.

The SideBiter features centre spokes that resemble the popular side-biter feature found on Mickey Thompson Baja tires. The new wheel features a high-gloss black finish and embossed center cap with the Mickey Thompson logo, and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty against structural defects and the finish.

The wheel is now available in 15-, 16-, and 17-inch diameters. (Tire Review/Akron)

Goodyear Expands Kelly Size Line-up

This autumn Goodyear is adding new sizes to its North American Kelly Tires range, including additional sizes for the Navigator Touring Gold and Explorer Plus lines. The Navigator Touring Gold, a tyre with a 60,000-mile tread life limited warranty on H- and V-rated sizes and a 70,000-mile tread life limited warranty on T-rated sizes, receives eight new sizes. They are: 185/60R15, 205/70R15, 215/70R15, 205/65R16, 215/65R16, 235/65R16 and 225/55R17 in T speed ratings, and a 215/60R17 in an H speed rating.

Majorlift Puts £100,000 into Improving Quality

Majorlift installed three machining centres during the summer break. According to the company, the machining centres (one Cincinnati, one Colchester and an EMI-MEC Batchmatic) demonstrate the latest progress in its “continuing quest for ever improving quality and delivery times.” Managing Director Bob Sims said: “We are delighted with our new machining centres. Inevitably we went through an operating learning curve during the summer, but their improved output and precision is already benefiting our customers with MOT Scissor Beams being quoted for delivery within 5 working days and our pit jacks from between 5 and 10 working days. Our market leading 5 year warranty continues to apply.”

Cobra Catering for Modern Classics with Retro Range

Although the Cobra brand needs little introduction to discerning suspension enthusiasts, the firm’s simply large range of ‘retro’ car springs is perhaps not so well known. Nestled amongst the plethora of modern fitments is a range of springs ranging from as far back as the ‘60s through to the ‘70s and ‘80s. Obvious retro icons like the Mk1 Golf are supremely well catered for, says Cobra, but a perusal through the company’s retro fitment list list reveals more obscure gems like the Opel Manta, Volvo 240, Saab 99, a huge quantity of retro Fords and Vauxhalls and a healthy dollop of early VAG group and Japanese cars. As well as a wide range of spring kits, some models also have sports damper kits available. Most kits lower the recipient car by between 30 and 40mm.

UK Launch for Latest Eibach Multipro Kits Imminent

After months and miles of exhaustive testing, Eibach report it is about to launch its two latest ‘Multipro’ Coilover kits onto the European market. The first two UK specific fitments from the firm’s US R&D facility are the Volkswagen Golf 5 and BMW’s E92 3 series. Many others vehicles are in the pipeline, Eibach promises.

Whilst coilovers have formed part of Eibach’s product line up for many years now, the new range raises the bar for the industry in terms of price, performance and componentry. Multipro uses state-of-the-art remote reservoir damping and adjustable height platforms to endow the recipient vehicle with what Eibach describes as “phenomenal levels of handling”, whilst still maintaining a compliant and comfortable ride quality.

Cooper Introduces CTS Touring Tyre

Cooper Tire has added a new product to the US premium luxury SUV touring tyre segment. Called the CTS, the new tyre is, says Cooper, designed to deliver year-round performance with higher levels of wet traction and ride comfort.

The tread is of a five rib design intended for all season traction, and Cooper comments that the wide centre elements boost responsiveness and highway stability, while the wide circumferential grooves help resist hydroplaning. The tyre also incorporates Cooper’s Response-Technology (R-Tech) construction, which employs several design elements intended to work in concert, providing enhanced tyre performance. The sidewall design, says Cooper, is computer optimised, and the extended bead filler offers improved handling response and cornering ability. The new coupled silica-based compound helps provide traction in wet conditions while also maximising treadwear.

Pro-Cut Europe has launched a new company website www.procuteurope.com. The website offers current and potential customers the opportunity to find out more about what the company calls the best on-car brake lathe in the world. Visitors to the website will find information about the lathe including a live demonstration, press releases and testimonials. The website also has a profit calculator allowing visitors to fill in the amount of MOTs, pad changes (without discs), sales car preparation and warranty jobs they carry out per week and how much profit they could be making by resurfacing discs. Lucky Number

Move over Twelve…..Thirteen has arrived! This intriguingly named product is in fact the latest alloy wheel from German manufacturer Oxigin, and is follows on from the “Twelve” series rim. The one-piece “Thirteen” design is a five-spoke wheel with a high load-bearing capacity, making it suitable for use on heavy vehicles.

A particularly eye-catching feature of the Thirteen, says Oxigin, is the contrast between the wheel spider sections, which are painted in a high gloss, black finish (Higloss-Black), and the sections with a 2D-front-brushed finish (Face Diamond-Cut). The latter produce an additional spider that is turned inwards and whose “gleaming rays” point towards the wheel centre.

Two New Potenzas from BFNAT

Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire introduced two new Bridgestone brand tyres last week at the Chicago Auto Show. The new asymmetrical tread Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, which BFNAT said is “an evolution of the Potenza RE750,” provides improved response, control, cornering, straight stability, linearity and grip than the RE750, the company said. The tyre will be available March 1, but sizing details were not made available.

Also launched was the Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid, an all-new all-season performance line with a directional tread pattern. The tread area, said BFNAT, is wider than normal for handling, cornering and grip in all weather conditions. The H- and V-rated line will be available this spring in 27 popular 15- to 18-inch sizes in the 65 – 40 series, and a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty. (Tire Review/Akron)
