Princess Royal opens Hankook’s new warehouse

Hankook says its market share in Britain is on the rise, and this has led to the need for an additional local stock holding facility. The company has established a new warehouse in Daventry to meet its requirements, and recently celebrated the opening of the new facility. Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, patron of charity Transaid – a charity also supported by the tyre maker – joined staff at Hankook’s new Daventry warehouse on 7 February, where she officially opened the new stock holding facility.

Bandvulc adds to fleet support and sales teams

Paul Searle has recently moved into Bandvulc’s sales team to take on the role of account manager. Paul joined Bandvulc in 2003, firstly in Bandvulc Tyre Contracts (BTC) and then the company’s sales operations team. According to the company he has supported the sales team for the past seven years and will continue to work on some of the current projects such as dealing with tenders, quotes and business proposals, but will also play a bigger role within the sales activities.

NDI signs up Desmond Simpson for Nordexx UK exclusivity

Danish company, Nordisk Daek Import A/S (NDI) signed a significant contract with the tyre importer, Desmond Simpson & Sons Ltd of Cookstown, Northern Ireland. As of 1 October 2012 Desmond Simpson will handle exclusively the Nordexx brand in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the last six months, Desmond Simpson has imported a significant number of containers, boosting the sales of Nordexx in the British Isles, NDI says, leading to the decision to make Desmond Simpson the exclusive distributor.

Van den Ban “wider than wide” winter tyre stock for expected “normal demand”

Wholesaler Van den Ban says that its selection of winter products is “wider than wide” this winter, and the company is expecting to cope well with “normal demand”. In recent winters VDB has experienced “very early” seasonal demand for winter tyres, but with a somewhat milder winter last year, the company is confident that this early rush will be evened out into “normal demand” this year, “commencing later than previous years”.

Mercedes-Benz Axors on Pirelli route

The route between Pirelli’s UK facilities in Burton-on-Trent and Carlisle is well trodden by Derby-based haulier ATL, and the company has just put three of its newest vehicle acquisitions to work on the company’s most arduous contract. The Mercedes-Benz Axor 2543 tractor units are consistently fully laden and rack up 8,600km a week carrying raw materials and finished tyres between Pirelli’s locations.

Regional workshop events aimed at highlighting Hunter range

Pro-Align boosts head office team, warehouse capacity

Wheel alignment specialist Pro-Align says it is enjoying one of its most successful years ever, and to accommodate this it is expanding its administration and sales departments. Five new employees have joined the team at Pro-Align’s Towcester head-office which serves as a hub for its UK operations. They are; aftersales administrator Sophie Yeates, sales administrator Claire Simpson, accounts assistant Beverley Shepherd, marketing assistant Alastair King, while regional sales support is boosted by Stacey Hawkes.

TGI enters partnership with Tire Warehouse

US-based wholesaler Tire Group International has announced the formation of a partnership with Tire Warehouse, Inc., a tyre distributor with a focus on the construction, industrial, forestry, earthmover and agricultural tyre segments. Commenting on the new partnership, TGI’s vice-president of Business Development, Osvaldo Marchante, said “our strategic partnership with Harvey and Rick Malove, along with their key management personnel, will allow TGI to strengthen our position in the fast growing off-the-road market segments.” Tire Warehouse’s Rick and Harvey Malove stated they are “looking forward to our new partnership with TGI. As a result of this partnership, we shall further enhance our main focus of continuing to offer top quality products and services to our customers."

BiGDUG offers discounts on tyre racking systems

BiGDUG’s tyre racking is up to 30 per cent cheaper than other market competitors. That’s the claim being made by the Tewkesbury-based commercial and industrial racking company. The tyre system itself is said to be boltless and “easy enough for anybody to construct.”

ATD central Illinois distribution centre approved

American Tire Distributors is building a new $6 million distribution centre in Illinois, reports Tire Review. Earlier this week, the Morton (Illinois) Economic Development Council voted unanimously to give ATD a two-year, 60 per cent property tax abatement in 2013 and 2014 to help it deal with soil problems on the 11-acre site selected for the new warehouse. Four other Morton taxing bodies must still approve the tax abatement, but it is expected to pass easily, according to local reports.

UK agricultural tyre distributor, Unity Tyre says it has placed Czech brand Mitas “at the centre” of its business, having built a close and long-standing relationship with the company. Unity says it is the leading distributor of the brand into the UK, achieved by building upon the ever-increasing OEM demand for Mitas tyres and by stocking a truly in-depth range of tyres to satisfy the replacement market. Unity says it has been highly successful in establishing the Mitas tyre with farmers and agricultural contractors as the tyre of choice for keeping their valuable machines running.

We Sell Tyres (Wholesale) MD Jackson retires

After 42 successful years in the tyre industry, Alan Jackson, managing director of Grouptyre member We Sell Tyres (Wholesale), has announced his retirement. Jackson’s successor will be Andy Zelos, who will take over as wholesale director from 1 January, 2012. Zelos has also joined the board of directors at Grouptyre. Jackson and Zelos have worked together for over twenty years, both at WS Tyremasters and subsequently at We Sell Tyres (Wholesale).

Tire Rack to expand HQ

US tyre distributor The Tire Rack plans to break ground this week on a 130,000 sq ft expansion to its South Bend, Indiana, headquarters, reports Tire Review. The expansion project will add warehouse and office space to the site, which already measures 532,000 sq ft.

Tyre recycler expresses gratitude to emergency services following Croydon fire

A large blaze that broke out in a warehouse at Neolay Ltd’s tyre recycling plant in Croydon on September 22 is said to have badly damaged the building, however no injuries have been reported and the company states it remains “business as usual” for most of its product lines. London Fire Brigade remained at the scene for most of the day after dispatching at least six fire engines, 30 firefighters and an aerial appliance.
