The Board of Directors at Apollo Tyres Ltd. reports a 124 per cent increase in net profit during the three months to 30 June 2023, the first quarter of the company’s 2023-24 fiscal year. Chairman Onkar Kanwar credits the efforts of Apollo’s European business towards this result.
It is now almost two years since Apollo Tyres introduced Vredestein tyres into India, with the company using its vast network of business partners to sell the brand. On 23 June it inaugurated the country’s first Vredestein outlet and intends to follow the opening of this branded centre in Bengaluru with further Vredestein outlets in “all the key metropolitan cities in the country with a significant vehicle park of high-end cars and superbikes.”
Through its premium Vredestein passenger car brand, Apollo Tyres offers one of the largest portfolios of high-performance tyres in Europe, including all-season, winter and summer options. The current includes the Quatrac Pro and Quatrac Pro EV for all-season, the Wintrac Pro for winter and the Ultrac Vorti+ and Vorti R+ for summer. Yves Pouliquen, group head of sales and marketing at Apollo Tyres, shares that this month the company confirmed details of the all-new Vredestein Quatrac Pro+, a dedicated all-season tyre for high-performance cars and SUVs, which will be available later this year.
Apollo Tyres has shared details about the recently-launched Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV, Europe’s first dedicated all-season tyre for electric vehicles. Specifically, the manufacturer sheds light on tyre development using its state-of-the-art virtual prototyping and simulation platform and how this helped to “dramatically reduce time-to-market as well as the product’s environmental impact and development costs.”
BMW Group has chosen Vredestein Ultrac for its all-new BMW X1 and will fit this tyre to the sports utility vehicle in size 205/65 R17 100Y XL. Apollo Tyres will ship the original equipment tyre, marked with BMW’s star symbol on the sidewall, from its plant in Gyöngyöshalász, Hungary directly to BMW’s production facility in Regensburg, Germany.
Apollo Tyres Ltd has launched its Vredestein-branded Pinza AT tyres in India. Dubbed “dedicated and premium tyres for SUVs in India”, the Vredestein Pinza AT products feature “all-weather grip”, “excellent stability” and are said to deliver “comfortably rugged” and “quieter rides”, according to the company.
Apollo Tyres is adding 17 new 18-21” fitments to its Vredestein Quatrac Pro ultra-high-performance (UHP) all-season tyre range. The tyre is now available in 103 dimensions for 17-22” rims. The new sizes will be added to the range in the first half of 2023. The new sizes offer options tailored for front or rear axles for front, rear and all-wheel drive applications. Apollo says the new sizes will ensure the Quatrac Pro remains suitable for a very diverse range of cars and SUVs. These include performance variants of the Mercedes G-Class, BMW 4 Series, Range Rover Velar, and Audi Q3.
Apollo Tyres Ltd. maintained its market share within Europe’s passenger car and light truck (PCLT) market in the three months to 31 December 2022 (Q3 FY2023) despite declining approximately 14 per cent year-on-year in this market. The tyre maker primarily attributes this negative growth to high channel inventory, a mild winter and the economic slowdown.
Apollo Tyres has appointed Alexander Mai as Cluster Manager for its European Two Wheel Tyre division. Mai will succeed Thomas Mittendorff, who steps down at the end of January to take a position outside the company. Mai takes responsibility for a business that currently offers Vredestein bicycle tyres in Europe and is expected to introduce a range of Vredestein-branded tyres for motorcycles and mopeds in the not-too-distant future.
A survey commissioned by Apollo Tyres has found that only six per cent of motorists in the UK are able to correctly identify a tyre’s load rating. Worse still, it turns out we’re only half as good at accomplishing this task as the Germans are. Thankfully, younger Brits give hope that this may change in future.
The Vredestein tyre brand is to become an Official Sponsor of the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, which will take place in Courchevel Méribel, France, between 6 and 19 February 2023. Apollo Tyres, owner of the Vredestein brand, signed the sponsorship deal to “help drive awareness of the award-winning Vredestein winter and all-season tyre ranges.”
Apollo Tyres has appointed Shobhit Arora as its new Country Sales Manager for the UK. He brings over 14 years of experience at Apollo Tyres to the role, having begun his career as a Graduate Engineer Trainee for the company in India in 2008. Since then, Arora has worked across many areas of the business in India and Europe, most recently as Distribution and Business Development Manager at Apollo Tyres’ European headquarters in the Netherlands.
Following the news of the launch of the Quatrac Pro EV earlier this month, Vredestein has revealed further details about the product’s performance and range.
The Vredestein tyre brand has been present in North America for two years now, and Apollo Tyres is expanding the range offered there with the USA launch of the Vredestein Pinza HT. This newest addition to the Pinza family is a highway all-season tyre designed for trucks, SUVs, and crossovers.
December is approaching and so is the Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV. Europe’s first dedicated all-season electric vehicle tyre will arrive next month, with Apollo Tyres promising a “range of advanced design features and materials.” Developed specifically for year-round use by battery electric vehicles and hybrids, Apollo has created the tyre to deliver greater driving range while providing superior levels of grip and traction in all conditions – including ice and snow.
