Sibur Prepares for Russian Winter

Sibur-Russian Tyres has added a number of new sizes to its winter tyre range up to 16 inches in diameter. “Nowadays in Russia there is an increasing demand for 14 and 15-inch sizes. These tyres are for cars in the price segment from $12,000 to $20,000. These are imported brands assembled in Russia and some imported models like Mitsubishi Lancer or Nissan Almera. If the vehicle parc changes, the structure of demand for tyres will change too. “We are happy to offer our customers our new Cordiant Polar tyre in 175/65R14, 175/70R14, 185/65R14 sizes and also the 15 inch and the two 16 inch sizes,” informed Anna Komarova, the head of passenger car tyres division of Sibur-Russian Tyres.

Scania Rejects MAN Bid

Scania has rejected MAN’s takeover offer. The news follows speculation and then confirmation that German truck and bus maker MAN launched an unsolicited bid worth 9.6 billion (£6.5 billion) for its Swedish rival Scania. Volkswagen and Investor, a Wallenberg family firm, each own major blocks of Scania shares and the Financial Times suggested Investor may reject the offer. The FT also hinted at possible counter bids from other firms, including Paccar. Swedish truck maker Scania says its board met on Sunday 17 September and “unanimously decided not to support the proposals” from MAN AG.

Goodyear Dunlop Increases Marketing Focus

Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK Limited has announced the appointment of Mark Dilks as Brand and Market Planning Manager. Dilks will be responsible for developing the brand and market strategies for the company’s wide range of consumer tyre brands, including Goodyear, Dunlop, Fulda, Falken and Sava.

Eagles to Carry New VW Line

(Akron/Tire Review) Volkswagen has selected the Goodyear Eagle LS-2 in size 235/45R17 for standard fitment on the new VW Eos, which will go on sale in the US late this year. The Eos will be available in the US with a 200-horsepower, 2.0-litre turbo four cylinder model and and a 250-horsepower 3.2-litre V6.

Hayes Lemmerz Receives Volkswagen Brazil Supplier Award

Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. announced today that its steel wheel manufacturing operation in Guarulhos, Brazil has received the 2005 supplier award from Volkswagen of Brazil. The award recognizes Hayes Lemmerz for its steel wheels, in the category of “Logistics – Domestic Productive Parts.” The award was recently presented by Messrs. Hans-Christian Maergner, president of Volkswagen of Brazil and Thomas Gropp, purchasing director of Volkswagen of Brazil. “I am honoured that Volkswagen has recognized our efforts to be an industry leader,” said Fred Bentley, president and COO of the company’s Global Wheel Group.

Dunlop, Bavarian Tuner MTM Create Fastest Bentley Ever

Bavarian tuning specialist MTM has created the fastest Bentley ever with a 205-mph performance kit of engine upgrades and 21-inch Dunlop SP Sport Maxx ultra-performance tyres. Motoren Technik Mayer GmbH announced that its MTM Bentley Continental GT retains the elegant appearance of the stock vehicle, but packs even more power under the lid. The tuner supplies various performance kits, ranging from 560 horsepower as standard to an impressive 635 horsepower.

In October 2005, the Beissbarth Automotive Group was bought by the Société Générale Capital Europe and Mark Hüsges (35) became the Group’s CEO. So, with a new owner and new management – where does Beissbarth go from here?

Hankook Supplying Tyres for Ford Focus

(Akron/Tire Review) Hankook’s Optimo H725 all-season touring tyre will be OE on the 2007 Ford Focus, Hankook Tire America Corp. announced. Pirelli Launches New Scorpion ATR

Need a tyre that can perform on any surface, while remaining quiet and looking good? Pirelli says the new Scorpion ATR does exactly that. Attending the tyre’s launch in Tozeur, Tunisia Tyres & Accessories asked if a tyre capable of performing strongly on sand and in wintry conditions really can be quieter and more comfortable than any other 4×4 tyre Pirelli has produced?

At the Scorpion ATR’s launch, Pirelli representatives spoke of the Italian manufacturer’s latest 4×4 offering with no small measure of hyperbole. Describing the Scorpion ATR as “Another Tyre Revolution”, the company was basically saying that its latest offering is aimed squarely at the “would like to go off-road, but won’t make a habit of it” market. But that is not to say that it doesn’t perform. According to Pirelli, the new tyre outperforms its predecessor, the Scorpion A/T, in almost every respect. The product is situated right in the centre of the company’s 4×4 portfolio and represents a serious attempt to please as many SUV drivers as possible.

Hankook Hooks Up on Four GM Models

(Akron/Tire Review) Hankook Tire America Corp. will have OE positions on several GM vehicles, including the Chevy Cobalt, Chevy Malibu, and the Pontiac G5 and G6. Hankook’s Optimo H725A all-season touring line will be on those vehicles in sizes P205/55R16H and P225/50R17S. Hankook said it invested two years in the development of the H725A, is OE on the Saturn Ion. Hankook also supplies tires to Ford, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Kia, Volvo, and Mitsubishi, among others.

New OE Deal Cements Hankook’s High Performance Credentials

From February of this year, Hankook tyres are being fitted to the fifth generation Golf. The Volkswagen Golf has been the single best-selling model of car in Western Europe since the first generation debuted in 1974. Hankook will supply the high performance Ventus Prime K105 205/55R 16. Furthermore since Hankook moved into its purpose built warehouse complex, high performance stockholding has more than doubled, company representatives told Tyres & Accessories.

Rosava Counts on OE Orders From Volkswagen

Not all of the Soviet Union’s tyre manufacturers exhibited at Tires & Rubber Moscow in March. While Amtel and Sibur decided not to come, Niznekamshina, Belshina, Moscow Tyre Plant and Rosava (from the Ukraine) all booked floorpsace.

Rosava, a closed joint-stock company which is listed but not traded on the stock exchange, belonged to Amtel until a year ago, then a Ukrainian investment bank called “Finance and Credit” took over. Before and after that change of ownership, the annual production was and is about 6.7 million tyres, explains Rosava’s deputy commercial director Roman Y. Rybachuk. This output includes some 6 million (radial only) passenger car tyres and 700,000 truck tyres. The manufacturer supplies about 50 per cent of the Ukrainian PC market, Mr Rybachuk continues. And about 20 per cent of the annual output (1.4 million units) is exported to Russia, and another 10 per cent to the other CIS states.
