A run-flat version of Goodyear’s Eagle LS2 will be fitted as original equipment on the all-new 2014 BMW X5 that has now gone on sale in North America. The tyre is supplied to BMW in 255/55R18 for the front and 255/50R19 on the rear.

It was announced last week that Volkswagen of America set a new Guinness World Records achievement for the “lowest fuel consumption- 48 US states for a non-hybrid car” by achieving a phenomenal 77.99 mpg (3.02 litres per 100km). In a Passat TDI Clean Diesel car, with two drivers, the record was achieved on a set of Continental’s PureContact tyres with EcoPlus technology. The record betters the previous mark of 67.9 mpg and also beats the hybrid vehicle record of 64.5 mpg.

Hankook Tire and the Hungarian Government have jointly announced details of further investment in the tyre manufacturer’s European production facility, located 60 kilometeres south of Budapest. Hankook plans to invest some 313 million euros in adding a further manufacturing unit to the site, which will create over 950 new jobs and further boost Hankook’s production volume in Europe, bringing capacity up to 17 million tyres per year.
Apollo Tyres has confirmed news of its approval as an original equipment supplier to the Volkswagen Passat. An Apollo spokesman told Tyres & Accessories that “this approval is for Passats manufactured anywhere in the world with same specs as in India.”
Several Indian motoring websites state that Volkswagen has selected Apollo Tyres as a global supplier for its Passat model. No further details were given, and at this stage neither Volkswagen nor Apollo have confirmed these reports or provided any further details.

Volkswagen Group Leasing (VGL), the fleet and corporate hire arm of Volkswagen Financial Services (UK), has chosen Michelin as its preferred tyre brand and appointed ATS Euromaster to fit and service tyres across its fleet for the next two years. Both contracts commenced on 1 April 2013 and cover VGL’s fleet of more than 40,000 cars and vans, which are supplied to customers on a mixture of contract hire and fixed cost maintenance agreements. The fleet also includes cars supplied to Volkswagen Financial Services’ employees.
Volkswagen has been enjoying, if you will forgive the pun, some good Kama in Russia of late. Earlier this month, tyre maker Nizhnekamskshina delivered the millionth Kama Euro tyre to the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga, where it produces a saloon variant of the Polo. The Kama tyres are supplied in sizes 175/70 R14, 185/60 R15 and 195/55 R15; both the Euro-129 asymmetric tread summer tyre and the all-season Euro-236 are fitted on the Polo.
