Marangoni’s Rovereto workforce concerned for future as Vipal deal looms

Marangoni’s positive recent business figures could have a sting in their tail for 188 workers at the manufacturer’s Rovereto, Italy plant. Negotiations with Brazilian retread supplier Vipal Rubber about a potential majority takeover of the Italian Marangoni Group are at an “advanced stage”, according to local press. According to the Corriere del Trentino, the regional edition of the Corriere della Sera, unions are increasingly worried about the future of Rovereto.

Marangoni finances improving, Vipal Rubber pushing for takeover

The Marangoni Group made money again last year despite significantly declining sales. With key figures improving, questions of the future relationship between the Italian firm and global retreading supplier Vipal Rubber reappears. The Brazilian company acquired a majority share in Marangoni Tread North America via a joint venture in 2019 and is reportedly about to take over the Marangoni activities in Latin America, which are currently being restructured. It would very much like to take over the entire company. Vittorio Marangoni, president of the Marangoni Group, confirmed that negotiations were ongoing between the firms three years ago to Tyres & Accessories. These could now also end positively in the interests of Vipal Rubber as part of a capital increase, according to company sources.

Vipal expands online training opportunities

Face-to-face training has been difficult at best and often impossible during the past year, and to accommodate this development Vipal Rubber bolstered its online training programme in 2020. Univipal, the retreading materials supplier’s corporate university and vocational training centre, has responded to an increased demand for virtual learning by developing a series of new resources, intensifying its online training and expanding content.

Vipal evaluating use of rice husk in its compounds

Vipal Rubber is researching the possibility of using rice husk residue as a raw material for the rubber industry, the result of a partnership between Vipal, the University of Caxias do Sul, in Brazil, and Lodz Poland University of Technology. Goodyear released a rice husk silica tyre in China in mid-2015, before announcing in November 2020 that is would double its rice husk usage by 2021; and Pirelli announced that it was researching the use of rice husk ash in new tyre compounds back in April 2009; but Vipal is the first retreading compound maker to go public with its use of rice husks in compounding.

Spanish retreader is first in Europe to buy Vipal machinery

In November, Recauchutados Muralla SA (Remusa) confirmed its position as the first retreader to buy Vipal retreading machinery in Europe. The company invested in a VOC 760 Extruder, which has already been installed at the retreader’s headquarters, located in Ávila, Spain.

Vipal Machinery sales growing in the USA

Vipal Machinery is reporting growing sales in the USA, having sold five machines so far this year in the world’s largest tyre retreading market. According to the company, four major North American retreaders acquired the five pieces of machinery including Pete’s Road Services based in Corona, California.

Vipal sponsors Vaculug 70th anniversary celebration

Vipal Rubber sponsored the 70^th anniversary celebrations of UK retreader Vaculug. Vipal also honoured Vaculug employees Liam Atkinson, Jason Hughes and Paul Farrington in recognition of their collaboration. Founded in 1950, Vaculug employs more than 140, making it one of the largest retreaders in Europe. The company manufactures hot and cold cure retreaded tyres for trucks and OTR.

Vipal congratulates Croatia’s Gumiimpex on 50th anniversary

The largest tyre retreader and distributor in Croatia is celebrating 50 years in business. Located in the city of Varaždin (81 km from the Croatian capital, Zagreb), Gumiimpex’s achievement was recognised by retreading materials manufacturer Vipal Rubber, which has supplied the firm since 2010, with a plaque in recognition of the milestone. Presenting the plaque to Gumiimpex, Vipal said it recognises the importance of building a history; it has almost 47 years on the market itself.

New Zealand retreaders buy Vipal machinery

Two New Zealand retreaders (Tyre Retreaders and Power Retreads) have invested in retread manufacturing equipment produced by Vipal Machinery. In total, three machines were shipped from Brazil, Vipal’s headquarters, to Oceania.

Polish tyre repairs distributor opens online channel

Arko-Gum, the Polish distributor of Vipal’s line of tyre repair products has launched a new e-commerce website. The company said the new site is “a way of increasing contact with its target audiences and overcoming social isolation,” The website targets B2B sales of its product lines, including the full range of materials from Vipal’s repair line. Arko-Gum has been Vipal’s partner for 10 years, nine of which have been exclusive.

Vipal’s tyre retreading equipment development has sold 56 machines since the start of its operations in 2016. According to the company, these were sent to countries in North America, South America and Oceania. Now, the plan is planning to expand internationally.

Vipal marks 15-year partnership with South Africa’s Tyre & Retread Supplies

Vipal Rubber has marked its 15-year partnership with exclusive South African distributor of repair products, Tyre & Retread Supplies (TRS), with a commemorative plaque. Dijan Rigo, commercial coordinator of Vipal Overseas delivered the plaque to Morne Goosen, TRS management at the distributer’s headquarters in Johannesburg.

Vipal Rubber VT110 tread approved in Romania

Global retreading supplier Vipal Rubber’s VT110 tread has been approved in Romania following trials conducted by fleet operator Senidav Trans SRL. The Eastern European fleet company carried out performance tests using retreaded tyres with the VT110, recording favourable results against a competitor brand. Measurements were recorded by Vipal’s Moldovan partner, Tehno Profil, after 260,000km on Romanian roads, which present adverse track conditions, with mountains, slopes, snow, and other problems.

Vipal Bulgarian distributor trained 15 companies in 2019

Bulgarian retreading and tyre repair firm Basvulk opened a new training centre in March 2019 to expand its customers’ knowledge. In the eight months since, Basvulk trained 15 companies in how to properly apply materials during tyre repairing processes. Vipal Rubber said its leading position in South America as an important global manufacturer of tyre repairing and retreading products is supported by its commitment to the technical qualification of its sector.
