Cooper Tire Europe has produced a new video with the help of its partner, Arsenal Football Club. Midfielders, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Özil, and forward, Lukas Podolski were asked to show their accuracy skills on a bespoke structure topped with four of Cooper’s Zeon CS Sport performance tyres. A secondary test involved aiming through a single tyre, hung from the top right of the goal mouth. The video is available to view below.
Team Aerokit Nexen’s 14-year-old debutant Jack Shanahan has claimed victory in the super-pro class of the Maxxis Tyres British Drift Championship’s opening round at Lydden Hill. Shanahan became the youngest ever competitor in the BDC, and his victory was registered against 90 other drivers representing 40 teams. The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) and the American Commercial Tire Network (ACTN) have jointly launched a video highlighting the environmental benefits of retreading. The video can be seen on the retreading organisation’s YouTube channel and in the video section of its website. TRIB says it will also display and distribute the video at the trade shows it attends and offer it to news outlets in order to highlight the positive environmental aspects of retreading.
Goodyear Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) published the findings of a new research project it undertook with the European Driving Schools Association (EFA) on 27 November. Alongside the research, Goodyear EMEA published a Road Safety White Paper – “Driving Safety First: Improving Road Safety For Novice Drivers”. The White Paper was introduced and discussed at a panel debate of the European Transport Safety Council in Brussels today.

The London-based Royal Society of Chemistry writes that scientists in Spain have reported the first self-healing polymer that spontaneously repairs itself without any intervention. Although the material – dubbed the ‘Terminator’ after the shape-shifting terminator seen in the franchise’s second film – is some time away from commercial release, it may be suited to a wide array of applications, including in tyres.
According to Continental, the habour tyre range it unveiled at the TOC Container Supply Chain Europe exhibition in Rotterdam in July has struck a chord with port operators. During the past week, Goodyear marked what it calls an “important milestone in the company’s plans to replace its current fleet of blimps.” Workers installed a new envelope over the aluminium and carbon fibre framework of the first of its new-design airships. Although they will still most likely be referred to as blimps, the new craft are semi-rigid airships and are being supplied by Germany’s ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik. Personnel from Zeppelin, along with a Goodyear team, are building the airship at Goodyear’s hangar in Suffield, Ohio.
US trade association TIA has released “Tire Safety Starts with TPMS,” the second in a series of consumer educational videos slated for 2013.
The video is a 5-minute overview of the safety benefits associated with TPMS and knowing when tires are underinflated.

Yokohama Rubber has announced its participation in a technical partnership with a difference – it recently became the first tyre manufacturer to serve as official technical partner to the popular ‘Gran Turismo’ series of motor racing video games. Yokohama lent its expertise to the latest version, Gran Turismo 6.
