Landsail 4Seasons Van engineered to meet market demands

The Tyre Industry Federation says that more than 300 brands sourced from more than 45 countries are on sale in the UK alone, the majority of them targeting van operators for whom a low purchase price is a key consideration. Escort Vehicle Group says Michelin Agilis 3 tyres offer impressive longevity, efficiency

The managing director of Escort Vehicle Group, Stuart Townley says the Michelin Agilis 3 tyres fitted on the company’s eight-strong fleet of LCVs are achieving “treble the life” of rival tyres. The Cheshire firm, which partners a portfolio of companies transporting abnormal loads, fits the tyres on its four Peugeot Expert and four Citroën Dispatch vans. They serve as outriders for the transport of abnormal loads across the UK, which can include anything from jet engines and bulldozers to steel girders for bridge construction work. In addition to its Cheshire base, the company operates depots in Sussex and Dumfries and Galloway. It decided to fit its entire fleet with the tyres when the business launched last year, in a bid to cut costs and reduce downtime.

UK records best half-year for new van sales since 2019

The UK new light commercial vehicle (LCV) market has risen for the sixth consecutive month, growing by 31.0 per cent to 34,630 units in the best June since 2019, according to the latest SMMT figures. 169,926 new vans, pickups and 4x4s were registered in the first half of 2023, up 17.7 per cent compared with the same period last year, as once-persistent supply chain shortages ease.

Bridgestone van tyre sales ‘buoyant’ as upgraded Duravis Van driving impressive performance

Bridgestone is reporting a buoyant sales period to coincide with the start of summer, with its upgraded Duravis range credited for a significant share of success. Bridgestone says the Duravis Van tyre is gaining more traction than ever before, due to its impressive performance characteristics. In TÜV SÜD testing carried out on the request of Bridgestone in July-August 2022, the tyre secured best in class mileage against key premium brand competitors (the tests were conducted on a VW Caravelle 2.0 TDI with the tyre size 205/65 R16C). The testing organisation also found the Duravis Van to be ahead of the competition in dry and wet braking performance and fuel or energy efficiency when it pitted the tyre against premium competitors at ATP Papenburg, fitted to VW Caravelles and Mercedes-Benz Sprinters. Bridgestone says these performances have left a lasting impression on van fleets.

Altrad’s 1,000 van fleet to roll out Michelin Connected Fleet

Support services provider Altrad will roll out Michelin Connected Fleet’s connected management services across its 1,000-strong fleet of vans over the next year. The company says it will use the solutions and insights to improve driver behaviour, help reduce accident rates and assist in the transition to electric vehicles. It also wants to make its operations more cost-effective, safer and more sustainable.

GT Radial Maxmiler AllSeason2 launched with A-grade wet braking

Giti Tire has launched the new GT Radial Maxmiler AllSeason2 across Europe. The next generation van tyre achieves A-grade wet braking on the EU tyre label and is supplied in bigger sizes and higher speed ratings to meet the demands of the latest vehicle rollouts. The next generation update on the brand’s original all-season tyre for van and light truck markets, wet braking has been enhanced by more than 15 per cent, while wet handling is improved by 20 per cent over the predecessor.

French postal service to trial Michelin Uptis airless tyres in European first

There are many tyre technologies on the market to resist damage and punctures, such as reinforced sidewalls and self-healing inner linings for the rubber, but tyre manufacturers have continued to develop the airless tyre as an optimal way of ensuring tyre damage does not dent operators’ businesses. The Michelin Uptis is the first tyre of its kind to hit the road, with nearly 50 DHL Express vans in Singapore fitting the product in 2023. Now French postal service La Poste will help the tyre take its European bow in real-world conditions, with 40 vans due to fit the Uptis in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France by the end of 2024.

Kumho’s all-season van tyre leads light commercial range

The PorTran CX11 joins the KC53 and CW51 as Kumho’s comprehensive van tyre range. The latest light commercial vehicle product is an all-season tyre for vans and light commercial vehicles. It was created by combining the strengths of the company’s much-praised all-season Solus 4S HA32 passenger car pattern and its existing winter specification van tyre, the PorTran CW51. The result is the PorTran 4S CX11 that ensures safe, secure driving and excellent braking performance throughout the year.

Hankook’s tyre range for the light commercial vehicle sector is produced under the Vantra product name. May van sales buoyant as supply pressures ease

The number of UK light commercial vehicles (LCVs) registered in the UK grew by 15.3 per cent in May compared with last year, reaching 25,359 units, according to the latest SMMT figures. It represents the fifth consecutive month of rising deliveries as the market rebounds from a tough 2022 as supply chain challenges continue to ease, although registrations remain -13.0 per cent below the pre-pandemic 2019 level.

A2 Tyres upgrades wheel alignment capabilities with AES UK

A Kent auto services and tyre supplier has upgraded its wheel alignment system to rectify axle and wheel misalignment with greater speed and accuracy. A2 Tyres, which operates four retail sites in the south-east, three for retail and vans and one for commercial vehicles, switched from a basic wheel alignment system to a Josam Cam-aligner upgrade kit after receiving a demo from Josam’s exclusive distributor, AES UK (Automotive Equipment Supplies). Accurate wheel alignment can reduce tyre wear, improving safety and saving fuel.

Deep into its second decade of UK development, the Point S Tyre and Autocare independent tyre dealer ad car maintenance network is establishing its offer to the fleet market, using the 2023 edition of the Commercial Vehicle Show to present and demonstrate its programme for fleets, including a new online management system. Point S was also present at the show in 2022, using its stand at the Birmingham NEC hosted event to introduce the brand to UK fleets at the commercial market’s most prominent national platform. It also demonstrated its improved offer to truck fleets; Point S exhibited alongside truck tyre distribution partner, International Tyres, showcasing the Fortune truck tyre range and Point S’s own brand of van and car fitments, produced by a leading tyre manufacturer from Germany. Fortune is a brand of rapidly developing Asian tyre manufacturer Prinx Chengshan, produced in Thailand and thereby avoiding current tariffs placed on truck tyres produced in China, features a casing warranty designed to extend the useful life of every Fortune tyre. With these foundations laid, Point S’s UK network swelling to more than 300 members and Tony Valentine installed as the company’s UK fleet manager, the company is now poised to offer, in its own words, a “competitive and cost-effective solution.” Tyres & Accessories visited the company’s stand in Birmingham to discuss the move into the fleet market.
