The concept is beautiful in its simplicity – listen to customers and respond quickly to their needs. For many companies, this is easier said than done. Not so for Magna Tyres Group. Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry near Buxton in Derbyshire hosted unprecedented crowds for the 2018 edition of the show (26–28 June), with official figures showing a record-breaking 19,687 unique visitors in attendance, surpassing the show’s previous highest attendance record set in 2005. The show also included more exhibitors (527) than ever before, with the showground, pavilions and demonstration areas showcasing the latest plant and equipment for the quarrying, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, recycling and construction sectors, many of the products on show for the first time in the UK.
Vacu-Lug has become the new retread manufacturing partner for Hankook in the UK. The company signalled its new status by including the manufacturer’s Alphatread retreading brand on its stand at the Commercial Vehicle Show (24-26 April, Birmingham NEC), coinciding with the beginning of production of the Alphatread bead-to-bead retread truck tyre range at the Vacu-Lug factory in Grantham.
Vacu-Lug has begun production of Hankook’s Alphatread truck tyre range at its factory in Grantham, Lincolnshire. The bead-to-bead retread tyre range is designed for medium haul fleets, and consists of four sizes. For drive axles, the R-DH05 is available in 295/80R22.5, 315/80R22.5 and 315/70R22.5 and for trailer axles, the R-TH22 is available in 385/65R22.5.
After several years of successful presence on the English tyre market, Magna tyres reports that the demand for Magna tyres has “increased considerably over the entire country”. To ensure a continuous proximity and availability of Magna & MTP tyres, on 16 April 2018 Vacu-Lug and Magna Tyres Group signed an official agreement for the distribution of Magna OTR and Port Handling as well as MTP OTR tyres in the United Kingdom.
Leading tanker and environmental waste firm Biomarsh Environmental Ltd has signed a comprehensive tyre management contract with Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres. The deal is designed to provide nationwide support and aid compliance throughout the Biomarsh fleet.

Lincolnshire-based Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres Limited was been fined £300,000 on 15 September after a worker died when the fork lift truck he was driving overturned at the company Grantham headquarters three years earlier.
Lincoln Crown Court heard the worker was transporting tyres on 30 July 2014 when the fork lift ran over a loose tyre in the road. He was crushed between the fork lift truck and the ground and later died from his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.
With Continental’s acquisition and subsequent integration of Bandvulc, the UK retreading market was left with one remaining large independent operation in Lincolnshire-based Vacu-Lug. There were obvious comparisons between the firms – both private, family-owned businesses before Conti’s takeover; both in possession of a large chunk of UK retread market share; both offering the sorts of fleet management service options – but the change of ownership of one gives a new dimension to commercial vehicle tyre manufacturers’ decision of which firm to partner in the production of retreads for the UK.
National waste water management and high-pressure water jetting services specialist Industrial Water Jetting Systems (IWJS) has appointed Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres to provide a comprehensive tyre management and husbandry service for its UK vehicle fleet.
Shanks Waste Management has selected Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres to manage its commercial vehicle tyres for a number of recycling centres throughout the UK. Using Vacu-Lug’s bespoke web-based VMS software programme, each Shanks vehicle is individually managed to provide a full monitoring, repair and tyre husbandry service. This includes Shanks’ entire fleet of delivery and collection vehicles, including roll-on-roll-off hook-lifts with drawbar trailers and a mixture of plant and OTR wheeled equipment.
