The top five most simple-to-avoid used car turn-offs have been released by the editors of Glass’s Guide.
The advice is aimed at private sellers who may be wiping hundreds of pounds off the value of their cars by failing to take a few simple steps before they put them up for sale.
New figures from My Car Check have highlighted the different risks associated with buying a secondhand electric or hybrid car. Most significantly, green machines are more likely to have outstanding finance than their petrol or diesel counterparts.
CDL has signed a three-year deal to provide full vehicle provenance and valuation data to the RAC for motor trade, vehicle breakdown, and insurance customers. The partnership will also provide vehicle provenance information for consumers through the newly launched RAC Passport product and vehicle look-up data to support RAC’s breakdown service, call centre operations and RAC Cars.
RAC Car Passport for dealers officially opens for business at 8am on Wednesday 9 March following its launch last month. Until 30 April, RAC will make all checks available at an introductory price of £1. Robert Diamond, managing director of Motoring Services at the RAC, said: “We’ve had a very strong reaction from the market since the announcement of Car Passport for dealers and are talking to a large number of potential customers.”
Head of valuation services at My Car Check, Gavin Amos, has named the Honda Civic as his car of the month, saying: “The Honda Civic is often overlooked in favour of the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra, but it drives well, competes in terms of emissions and fuel consumption, and can be a great fit for those wanting something a bit different. Check to make sure the one you’re looking at is clear of finance and not previously written-off, especially the very rapid Sport variants.”

New data from BCA, Europe’s largest used car marketplace, highlights the increasing financial pressure on the youngest motorists on UK roads. Price has always been critical to the youngest used car buyers. But research commissioned for the BCA Used Car Market Report shows that this has increased considerably in the last year. In 2015, 65 per cent of 17-24 year old used car buyers said that price had the strongest influence on their vehicle search – this was the highest percentage in five years and a 14 percentage point rise on the previous year.
