Goodyear is unveiling a new Eagle race tyre with roots in consumer tyre technology at this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Reversing the usual development trend of racetrack-to-road, Goodyear’s newly designed right-side tyre marks the introduction of its Multi-Zone Tread Technology, combining two different rubber compounds in a single tread to face the conditions of one of NASCAR’s most demanding speedways.
Trelleborg and OK Tire Store participated in the World Plowing Contest held 19 – 20 July 2013 in Alberta, Canada. During the two day championship, 60 competitors from over 30 countries took part in conventional and reversible ploughing classes on both stubble and grass plots.
On 28 September 2013, the directors of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company declared a quarterly dividend of 73.44 cents per share of mandatory convertible preferred stock. The US-based tyre manufacturer reports that the dividend is payable 1 October 2013, to shareholders of record on 13 September 2013. The payout represents an annual rate of $2.9375 per share.
Next Tuesday, at 9am local time (2pm BST, 3pm CEST), Goodyear Tire & Rubber will hold a conference call to discuss details of its newly ratified master labour contract with the United Steelworkers union. Participating in the conference call will be chairman and chief executive officer Richard J. Kramer and Darren R. Wells, executive vice-president and chief financial officer.
Continental has appointed Matthias Matic as its new Hydraulic Brake Systems Business Unit head, part of the Continental Chassis & Safety Division, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main. Matic moves from his current position as Chassis Components Business Unit head on 1 September, succeeding Peter Laier who has assumed a position on the executive board of a German light manufacturer. “I’m looking forward to the new challenge. Hydraulic brake systems have proven their worth a million times over; they’re a key component of automotive safety. Friction brakes will continue to be an important topic for the foreseeable future”, said Matic.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber is set to receive its first Trade Americas Award from the Latin Trade Group at this year’s BRAVO Business Awards on 25 October. The tyre maker reports it will be given the BRAVO Trade Americas Award for its “valuable contributions fostering the development of small and medium size enterprises development in the Latin America region.”
Moulded polyurethane and rubber wheels and tyre manufacturer Stellana US Inc. has appointed a new industrial sales manager. Jack Garcyznski joined the company on 1 July and is responsible for developing sales of custom poured polyurethane parts throughout the United States.
The top job at Nexen Tire America Inc. will be taken over by David Sul following the resignation of Changrin Suk. The 25-year company veteran, who most recently held the head office position of senior managing director at Nexen Tire’s overseas business department, will begin as CEO of the North American operation on 30 September.
Continental shares that the 21-inch rim option of the Tesla Model S comes with its ExtremeContact tyre as original equipment. The ExtremeContact, which is not sold in Europe, is fitted to US and Canadian market versions of the electric saloon in size 245/35 R21. According to the tyre maker, the performance of ExtremeContact “matches up nicely” with the demands of the rear-wheel drive performance saloon that can travel from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.4 seconds.
Wayne Culbertson has been appointed managing director of Michelin Tyre Plc, replacing Eric Le Corre who has taken up the Paris-based position of head of public affairs.
On 15 July 2013, Marcos Guzman took over the position of production manager, responsible for B&J Rocket’s factory in the USA. With immediate effect, Guzman is in charge of quality assurance and improvement for all B&J production. In addition to further optimising production processes he will closely monitor costs and the resources utilised. Furthermore, he is responsible for improving maintenance to ensure a consistently high quality output.
Falken Tyre Europe is sponsoring a ‘rally with a difference’ this month. Yesterday, cars competing in the Black Sea Circle rally headed off from Berlin, and Falken says this – Europe’s most eastern rally – is “about driving the way it used to be.” The rally route takes competitors around the Black Sea as far as Odessa, a total distance of 7,000 kilometres (4,350 miles).
A total of 44 employees from Pirelli’s Burton upon Trent and Carlisle factories have been recognised for their ongoing commitment to premium tyre manufacturer Pirelli. Each year, Pirelli holds annual dinners to reward its employees who have worked with the company for a period of either 21, 30 or 40 years.
BFGoodrich has joined Goodyear and Bridgestone in reaching a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers. The tyre maker and union negotiating teams have nutted out a three-year contract covering 2,400 workers at the company’s Tuscaloosa and Fort Wayne plants in the US.
