Engineering, architecture and construction management firm SSOE Group has been selected to design the new Sentury Tire manufacturing facility and North American headquarters in LaGrange, Georgia.

Michelin files lawsuit against Tire Recappers of Nashville
It isn’t just copycats in China that the tyre majors are going after. Michelin North America reports that it filed a lawsuit against Tire Recappers of Nashville yesterday. Michelin alleges that the manufacturer and seller of retreaded SUV, crossover and crossover tyres infringed design patents covering the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 and Michelin LTX M/S2 tyres.
Almost 400,000 Primewell tyres recalled in the USA
A total of 394,378 Primewell brand passenger car tyres are being recalled in the USA due to their potential to develop cracks in the lower sidewall. Beginning 20 July, GITI Tire (USA) Ltd. is recalling the replacement market Primewell Valera Touring II in sizes 185/65R14 86H, 195/60R15 88H, 205/55R16 91H, 205/60R16 92V, 215/60R17 96H and 235/60R17 102T.
VW Passat: First Giti tyre approval for new USA factory
Giti Tire has received confirmation that two sizes of Giti brand tyres will be fitted as original equipment on the 2019 Volkswagen Passat in North America. The Passat will wear the All-Season GitiComfort A1 in sizes 235/45R18 95H and 235/40R19 92H. These approvals are the first original equipment placements for Giti brand tyres that will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Chester County, South Carolina, which is expected to begin production later this year.
Alex Vitale appointed CEO of TP Commercial Solutions in the US
TP Commercial Solutions LLC has appointed Alex Vitale as its new CEO for North America. The appointment is effective immediately and will see Vitale bring over 20 years of global tyre industry experience to lead the company’s efforts and expansion in the commercial truck and fleet markets in the US and Canada.
Platinum Caterpillar supplier status for Bridgestone OTR tyre plant
The Bridgestone off-the-road tyre plant in Bloomington, USA has been granted Platinum certification in the Caterpillar Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). This achievement follows two years of holding Gold level SQEP certification with the earthmover machinery manufacturer.
Goodyear 184th on latest ‘Fortune 500’ list
For the 63rd consecutive year, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is in the upper echelon of American businesses in Fortune magazine’s annual ranking of the 500 largest companies in the United States. Based on 2016 sales of US$15.2 billion, Goodyear is the 184th largest business in the country. It is ranked fourth in the magazine’s Motor Vehicles and Parts category.
Michelin acquires telematics provider NexTraq
The fleet management package Michelin offers in North America is set to benefit from the company’s acquisition of NexTraq, a US provider of commercial fleet telematics. Yesterday the tyre maker reported its purchase of the Fleetcor Technologies subsidiary in an all-cash transaction.
Yokohama an official partner of Nitro World Games
The partnership between Yokohama Tire Corporation and the Nitro Circus organisation has been extended through the tyre maker’s appointment as an official partner to the Nitro World Games, which take place in the US on 24 June.
Bridgestone adds aircraft tire retreading warehouse
Bridgestone Aircraft Tire USA, which operates a 160,000-square-foot aircraft tyre retreading facility in Rockingham County, North Carolina, is expanding with a new warehouse in nearby Madison.
Wanli Tire to spend $1 billion on US plant
China’s Guangzhou Vanlead Group Co. Ltd. reports that its subsidiary, Wanli Tire Corporation Ltd., intends to start work on a US$1 billion tyre factory in the US state of South Carolina during the first half of next year.
Tyre production begins in Hankook’s USA plant
Although Hankook Tire is still hiring staff for its new factory in Clarksville, Tennessee and intends to hold an official plant inauguration ceremony towards the end of this year, tyre production has reportedly already started there.
Cooper Tire Tupelo, Clarksdale plants gain environmental quality recognition
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has recognised Cooper Tire’s Tupelo and Clarksdale, Mississippi plants as members of its environmental stewardship enHance initiative. A voluntary programme consisting of three-year membership terms, the enHance initiative, which stands for “envision heightened awareness nurturing conservation and environmental excellence,” recognises committed environmental leaders in Mississippi that put in place environmental initiatives beyond those that are required.
Cooper launches ‘Tread Wisely’ mobile app
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has launched the new Tread Wisely mobile app. Designed to promote tyre and vehicle safety among teens and young adults, the app was created the app in partnership with the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS). Cooper says it empowers young drivers by putting safety information, how-to videos and unique features directly into their hands when and where they need it most. The app is free and available for download from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
Triangle opening first US warehouse
Triangle Tire USA is opening its first US warehouse in Madison, Tennessee to supply off-the-road (OTR), medium and heavy truck as well as passenger and light truck tyres to its distributors and dealers. The 53,000 square-foot facility allows for future expansion, according to Triangle.
