Cooper and Texarkana union make tentative agreement
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers Local 752L union in Texarkana, Arkansas on a new four-year labour contract.
Across the Atlantic they are called tires, while over here we use a “Y” and say tyres. This tag provides the latest tyre business news emanating from the United States of America (USA), whichever way you spell it.

This is because motorsport represents a part of the Italian company’s research and development for ultra-high performance tyres – an “open-air testing laboratory,” in its words – pushing the extremes of performance on track to create products for the road.
Magna Tyres Group is expanding its network of offices and distribution into the United States and Canada. According to the company, Magna Tyres Group will start its expansion into the North American continent with an office in Canada.
Sumitomo Rubber reports that it has begun supplying Falken Ziex ZE001 A/S tyres to Subaru for its Crosstrek Hybrid model in the USA. This plug-in SUV model goes on sale in America this winter.
Continental commissioned the first driverless tyre test vehicle for a wide range of road surface types at its Ulvade, Texas test track on 19 December 2018. The aim is to make the test results for Continental’s passenger and light truck tyres more conclusive and minimize the impact of the test procedure on the results. The new test vehicle is based on Continental’s automated Cruising Chauffeur, which was developed for freeways.
Yokohama tyres earned two 2018 Good Design awards from The Chicago Athenaeum at the end of December. Yokohama was honoured in the transportation category for its Geolandar X-MT and AVID Ascend GT products.

Kumho Tire USA has announced that Samuel Choi has succeeded Harry Choi as CEO. Kumho reports that the transition comes as a part of a global shift in key executive management roles geared to positively reinforce the company for the present and future.
Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB has signed a memorandum of understanding with EE-TDF Cleveland, LLC, a US tyre-recycling company. The agreement remains in effect for six months, has an option to extend, and opens up opportunities for additional joint venture plants with an annual recycling capacity of 30,000 tonnes tyres.
Based in the city of Guangzhou, the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition is particularly close to the Chinese off-shore territories of Hong Kong and Macau. Still, despite the show’s proximity to such personal and corporate wealth, Prinx Chengshan unique inasmuch as it was the only Hong Kong stock exchange (HKEX) listed tyre manufacturer at the show.
