Group International and GITI Tire USA have announced a distribution arrangement through which TGI will distribute GT Radial branded tires in South Florida. TGI will carry the full line of GT Radial tyres, including the Maxtour line, Champiro 128, Champiro 228, Champiro 328, Champiro 528, Savero H/T, Adventuro A/T II and Adventuro M/T lines. The GT Radial line up will be stocked in the company’s Miami distribution centre.
Nokian Tyres will move its headquarters from LaVergne, Tennessee, to Colchester, Vermont, in an effort to consolidate its operations. In the US, the Toyo Proxes A20 all-season tyre has been selected as the 18-inch OE upgrade for the 2010 Lexus HS 250h. The first dedicated hybrid for Lexus, it features the optional P225/45R18 Proxes A20, a so-called eco-friendly tyre.
Lexus introduced the HS 250h as the “World’s First Hybrid-Only Luxury Vehicle”. According to the company, it produces the best combined estimated EPA mpg rating of any luxury vehicle in the US at 35-mpg and also achieves 35-mpg city and 34-mpg highway.
For the second year in a row Michelin North America employees have pitched in and lent Habitat for Humanity a hand in the tyremaker’s home neighbourhood of Greenville County, South Carolina. Since the groundbreaking in May, more than 600 Michelin employees and Habitat volunteers have given nearly 5,000 hours to build the two houses in the town of Greer, not far from Michelin’s US headquarters. Michelin North America chairman and president Dick Wilkerson was on hand to present the keys to the new homeowners.
After operating independently for six years, B&J Rocket Sales AG, based in Switzerland, and the USA-based B&J Manufacturing have signed an agreement to merge into one global company. The companies have been in close contact in order to make this agreement possible. The tyre manufacturing downturn in North America has claimed another victim. Bekaert has announced the closure of its Clarksdale, Mississippi bead wire plant. According to plant manager Gary Downey, the quantity tyre imports entering the US, and their affect on North American tyre production, has played a role in the decision to close the plant and eliminate 76 jobs. Production from Clarksdale will be integrated into Bekaert's Rome, Georgia, and Shelbyville, Kentucky facilities in the coming months.

Operating hours are on the up and tyre related breakdowns are becoming scarcer at Hills Quarry Products, and Michelin says its premium XHA and XADN tyres are the culprits behind this positive turn of events. The Hills Group division switched to Michelin products following a trial period and now uses the two types of tyre on the Volvo A25D dump trucks and Volvo L120E and L150F loading shovels in nine-strong quarry fleet.
The next generation of all-terrain tyre in the Bridgestone Dueler family has been launched in North America, replacing a tyre line Bridgestone describes as having "set the standard for toughness, durability and quiet comfort." The Dueler A/T Revo 2 was first introduced to the market in July 2009 and is now available in 27 sizes from 15 through to 20-inch rim diameters.

An astounding number of US news sources, including the Washington Post and the NBC network, have picked up on the tale of Charles County, Maryland jurist Robert Nalley. The circuit judge has admitted deflating the tyre of a car parked near his courthouse. One newspaper, the Daily Record, reports that Nalley went to work on the tyre’s valve because he claimed “notes on the windshield did not work.”
Toyo has launched its first entry-level US market high performance tyre. Called the Extensa HP, the new tyre is the second product in Toyo’s new for 2009 Extensa line. The company releasing the new range in twenty sizes it says covers popular performance coupes and saloons and offers "value-priced options for original equipment replacement and plus sizing."
