Auto Bild summer tyre test win for Goodyear & Michelin

After keeping us in suspense for a couple of weeks, Auto Bild has published the final results of its summer tyre testing. Having eliminated many of the original 52 tyre brands in a preliminary round of wet and dry braking, the publication’s test specialist Dierk Möller examined the 20 size 225/40 R18 finalists in greater detail, investigating how each performed in conditions typically encountered throughout the year. Auto Bild also considered purchase price and its relationship to mileage potential, as well as rolling resistance, giving each tyre a ‘cost’ score for these factors.

Autozeitung highly recommends 5 summer tyres

For optimal performance in warm and largely dry conditions, nothing beats a summer tyre. Motoring publication Autozeitung has looked at ten UHP tyre models in size 225/45 R18 95Y for its 2025 summer tyre test. Fitting the ten brands of tyre to a Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI, the Autozeitung test team evaluated each in wet and dry conditions, awarding a maximum of 150 points per category.

11 ‘good’ tyres in ADAC summer tyre test

A fresh set of rims and wide tyres can significantly enhance a vehicle’s appearance. For compact cars, selecting the 225/40 R 18 tyre size provides both good looks and the promise of high performance. European motoring organisation ADAC has chosen this dimension for its 2025 summer tyre test, evaluating 18 products.

Auto Bild names summer tyre test finalists

Christmas might be the most wonderful time of the year for Andy Williams, but at Tyrepress.com we prefer tyre testing season. That’s why we are thrilled to see the results for round one of Auto Bild’s summer tyre test. The well-known German motoring publication has continued the successful format of previous years and selected an enormous field of test candidates. In 2025, it is looking at 52 tyres in total, all in size 225/40 R18.

Sport tyres – not for everyone

Optional sport tyres always deliver better performance, right? Not necessarily, says auto motor und sport (ams). When the German motoring publication tested the latest Porsche Macan Turbo Electric, the model they received didn’t arrive on standard 20-inch rims, rather with 22-inch wheels fitted with “performance tyres” – an option that costs £464 in the UK.

Auto Bild votes Michelin & Pirelli its top cold weather tyre makers

After conducting no less than six all-season and winter tyre tests in recent months, Auto Bild is well positioned to identify and acknowledge the tyre makers who have consistently produced safe, well-performing tyres. It has now done so, naming Pirelli its star amongst the all-season tyre makers for 2024/25 and Michelin the leading manufacturer of winter tyres. Continental and Goodyear also secure a podium place for both categories.

No compromise in the cold – Sportauto tests all-season tyres

When Sportauto tested examined five brands of size 215/40 R18 summer tyres earlier this year, it tested them alongside an all-season model. This premium all-season product struggled against the summer tyres in temperatures well above the 20-degree mark, leading the motoring publication to conclude that “the all-season tyre is just a compromise” in summer conditions, especially when paired with sport cars such as the Hyundai i20 N it used for testing. Sportauto still holds this opinion, but it has now decided to test six of these “compromise” tyres – again in size 215/40 R18 – to answer a couple of important questions.

Rain, snow or shine – Auto Bild Sportscars tests 10 winter tyres

In its latest test, Auto Bild Sportscars fits ten brands of winter tyre in the size 235/35 R19 on a BMW M135i to assess their performance across a range of conditions. Testers Henning Klipp and Dierk Möller encountered significant progress in winter tyre technology, particularly in snow and ice performance, but their testing but also highlighted ongoing challenges for some brands of winter tyre in wet and dry conditions.

Auto Express examines 7 tyres for 2024 winter test

Winter tyres may account for less than one per cent of the UK tyre retail market, but that hasn’t stopped Auto Express from putting seven models to the test in the run-up to the colder part of the year. For its 2024 winter tyre test, the publication focused on the popular 205/55 R16 size, evaluating the Continental WinterContact TS 870, Falken Eurowinter HS02, Goodride Snowmaster S608, Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3, Hankook i’cept RS3, Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 and Vredestein Wintrac.

AutoBild’s top 15 all-season tyres 2024

At the start of the week, AutoBild released the results of the qualification round for this year’s all-season tyre test. The finalists were chosen based on the shortest combined braking distances on wet and dry roads. Auto Bild assessed 15 popular all-season tyres in 225/50 R17, fitting each to a BMW 3 Series and subjecting them to 16 rigorous test processes designed to replicate a diverse range of real-world scenarios. After an initial 37-tyre qualifying round at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, the best-performing tyres underwent additional wet and dry testing at the Wachauring racetrack in Austria, followed by snow testing in the New Zealand Alps.
