Continental’s winning streak in this year’s winter tyre tests continues with victory in the latest from German magazine Sportauto. The comparative evaluation of ten tyres featured in the current issue (11/2017) places the WinterContact TS 850 P in first place together with the first-generation Goodyear UltraGrip Performance.

Continental winter tyres have already claimed two test victories this autumn – the WinterContact TS860 took top spot in ADAC and Auto Bild tests, while the WinterContact TS850 P was voted top by Auto Motor und sport. The latter of these has now achieved a second win, in the test that will appear in the issue of Auto Bild Sportscars (11/2017) due to be released tomorrow. The victory was a shared one, however, with the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 named joint winner.

Hankook’s Winter i*cept RS² has proved successful in the latest Winter Tyre Test from Auto Express, the UK’s bestselling car magazine. Finishing a close second against seven other tyre brands in the popular 225/45R17 size found on many family cars, the tyre achieved first place finishes in several categories including snow braking, snow traction and snow circle.
Goodyear’s Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 all-season tyre has won German magazine Auto Bild’s latest tyre test. According to the magazine, the tyre demonstrated the best driving performance in all weather conditions, especially in wet and snow conditions.
Goodyear Dunlop’s twin premium brands have proven their winter performance in recent tyre tests conducted by GTÜ/ACE, ADAC/TCS and ÖAMTC. In all three tests, Dunlop’s Winter Sport 5 (SUV) and Goodyear’s UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 took first and second place respectively.
Magazine titles belonging to the same publishing group streamline costs by sharing tyre testing resources, and as a result often draw similar conclusions. This was the case for the motorcycle tyre tests published by German magazines Motorrad and PS. Both Motorrad’s May 2017 evaluation of six touring tyre brands and the test of these products appearing in the September issue of PS magazine name the same brand as winner. Continental is therefore celebrating a “second test victory in just three months” for its ContiRoadAttack 3.

The outcomes of comparative tests published by car magazines and motoring associations influence many drivers’ purchasing decisions. Tyre tests are no exception here, and therefore the pride Goodyear shows in its tyres’ test performance is understandable. The tyre maker reports that, in 208 magazine tyre tests carried out by 37 well-known European publications and organisations over the past five years – including Auto Express, ADAC, Auto Bild, Auto Bild Allrad, Auto Zeitung, Gute Fahrt, Auto Moto and ACE/GTÜ – Goodyear tyres were recommended in more than 80 per cent of them. Goodyear was named test winner in 43 of these tests.
The current issue of Auto Express looks at the best tyres available in Britain, and Continental is very happy with the outcome of this year’s test. Its ContiPremiumContact 5 has been voted the top tyre in the publication’s evaluation of 11 size 205/55R16 summer tyres, and Continental notes that the award “recognises the ContiPremiumContact 5 across a broad spectrum, taking top spot for dry handling, wet handling and wet braking.”
Membat has decided to organize a training day for its official distributors in Spain, as well as for its customers.
The concluding comments in the tyre test published in the latest issue of Auto Bild Allrad offer food for thought to anyone considering their tyre options for the coming winter. All-season tyres, posit the three-man team behind the German magazine’s evaluation of eight SUV tyres, can be “a fully-fledged alternative to seasonal tyre changes – provided they are as good as our test winners.” Tyre buyers shouldn’t hesitate to place their trust in the best all-season rubber, they add, even if dedicated summer and winter tyres still can’t be beat in specific performance areas.
Although a new arrival in the market, Goodyear’s latest off-road tyre has gained a first tyre test victory with its coronation as king of Drive Out magazine’s all-terrain tyre test. The South African publication’s June edition compared seven products, and concluded that the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure was “considerably better” than its predecessor (the Goodyear AT/SA) and a “worthy winner” thanks to its impressive performance both off and on the road.
Good on yer, Continental. Australia’s Motor magazine has crowned the ContiSportContact 5 the king of its test of nine performance tyres. In the conclusion to the test report published in the May 2017 issue of Motor, the test team stated they had “little doubt” when it came to choosing the winner, given the two gold and three silvers the Continental tyre bagged in various test categories.

A comparative test conducted by Swedish magazine Vi Bilägare (issue 5/2017) has resulted in another win for the new Continental PremiumContact 6, the tyre recently named victor in the Auto Bild test of 51 summer tyres. This time it was a SUV size that delivered Continental the goods; the Vi Bilägare testers fitted five brands of size 235/50 R18 to a VW Tiguan 2.0 TSI for evaluation. Testing was conducted last December Continental proving ground in Uvalde, USA.
The 2017 summer tyre test season is over and the winners and losers have been determined. While the winter tyre tests last autumn were dominated by a handful of premium manufacturers, most notably Continental, during the current test season the products from many more tyre makers gave convincing results. Falken, Fulda, Toyo and Vredestein are […]
