Yokohama Rubber has expressed its pride in two awards its UK sales and marketing subsidiary, Yokohama H.P.T. Ltd. (YHPT), has gained this year – the Tyre Manufacturer of the Year award presented by TyreSafe in July and the Industry Marketing Campaign of the Year award gained at the 2017 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards ceremony in October.
TyreSafe has announced substantial support for the national roads policing initiative to increase awareness of tyre safety to motorists on Britain’s roads. This will begin with the charity’s handover of 2,000 digital tread depth gauges for use by traffic officers across the country when they conduct stop checks at the roadside.
It’s the first time tyres will be included on the list of recommended visual vehicle checks carried out by police officers, and is considered as a significant step forward in carrying the tyre safety message directly to motorists. With accurate digital gauges to precisely measure the tread depth, drivers can immediately be made aware of the amount of tread remaining on their vehicles’ tyres. All those drivers will be reminded of the 1.6mm minimum legal limit for tread depth.
As Tyre Safety Month 2017 comes to a close, TyreSafe has announced that the UK’s largest online tyre retailer, Blackcircles.com, has added its official support to the charity’s campaign to raise awareness of the importance of regular tyre maintenance checks.
It’s getting colder outside and you’re wearing clothes that match the season, so why not let your car ‘wear’ a suitable set of tyres? With winter approaching, TyreSafe is encouraging motorists to consider winter tyres, and to ensure their tyres are in good shape and ready to face all possible road conditions.
Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS) has joined forces with a leading independent tyre retailer and TyreSafe highlight illegal part worn tyres.
MTS, Steve Andrews Tyres, based in St Austell, and TyreSafe are working to help shine a light on the world of part worn tyres, with their campaigning efforts taking them all the way to Westminster.
Motorists shouldn’t need to be reminded of this, but it seems they do – safety should be the primary concern when replacing tyres. This is the message from TyreSafe this Tyre Safety Month, and the organisation emphasises that although part-worn tyres may appear to be a cheaper option, numerous studies and investigations it and Trading Standards have carried out give reason to question the roadworthiness of these products. In the most recent actions, 93 per cent of part-worns inspected were sold illegally, and more than have possessed safety-critical faults.
According to TyreSafe, drivers are increasing their motoring costs as well as the risk of being involved in an incident by ignoring tyre maintenance. The organiser of Tyre Safety Month is reminding motorists that regular tyre checks are a ‘win-win’ as they will help road users stay safe and avoid unnecessary bills. To help them, TyreSafe has drawn together a list of tips as a reference guide.
TyreSafe is reminding drivers not to rely solely on tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) to ensure their tyre safety. While this valued technology has been proven to improve road safety by advising of a change in tyre pressure, drivers need to check their TPMS is working and be aware that it does not warn drivers of the condition of their tyres nor the amount of tread depth.
Motorists are being given the chance to demonstrate their tyre safety knowledge by taking part in the unique TyreSafe Test. Hosted on the tyresafe.org website, the quiz is designed to be a fun way to prove how much drivers know about tyre safety and highlight the potentially life-saving information they need to be more familiar with.
In support of October’s Tyre Safety Month, road safety and breakdown recovery provider GEM Motoring Assist is encouraging drivers to ensure they carry out regular checks on their tyres. By doing so, GEM is reminding motorists that correct tyre pressure is not only vital for safety, but is also the best way to maximise fuel economy.
TyreSafe has started the 2017 Tyre Safety Month with a question: Are you having a Good or Bad Air Day? The organisation is taking on the rampant underinflation of tyres in the UK; its figures show that more than half the tyres on Britain’s cars and vans are being driven at lower pressure than required.
A new feature on the TyreSafe website enables motorhome users to check the correct tyre pressures for their vehicles. Fully compatible to use on mobile phones and devices, users can select the number of rear axles and then add either the maximum or fully laden load for the front and rear of the vehicle. Tyre size and type can then be selected from a drop-down menu to produce suggested pressures.
Protyre, the retail division of Micheldever Tyre Services, has been named TyreSafe Retailer of the Year at the now-annual TyreSafe Awards – for the fourth consecutive time.
The company’s continued commitment to raising awareness of tyre safety and the dangers of poorly maintained or part worn tyres was again applauded by the judging panel. Protyre’s initiatives during last year’s Tyre Safety Month included free safety checks, customer email campaigns and a full day of live radio interviews.
For the second year in succession, Yokohama has been awarded TyreSafe’s Tyre Manufacturer Award in recognition of its efforts, achievements and innovative approach in promoting tyre safety in the UK.
Having initially secured the award last year, Yokohama built on the success of its original campaign by utilising its partnership with Chelsea Football Club throughout 2016 to generate further high-profile awareness of tyre safety issues with Premier League football fans, and creating a powerful call to action, encouraging fans to check their tyres for a safe journey home.
