TyreSafe advises tyre checks ahead of bank holiday

With hot weather continuing to prevail across the UK, TyreSafe is pre-empting the arrival of millions of drivers on the roads in the coming Spring Bank Holiday weekend – extended by the presence of the Queen’s Jubilee celebration on 5 June. Tyrepress.com will be spending the bank holidays in Essen for Reifen 2012, but those not heading to Europe’s premier tyre event should check their tyres to avoid risking motoring misery. “We want people to enjoy their holidays and arrive safely at their destinations, so that’s why we’re urging them to do a few simple tyre checks before they head off and this includes the spare wheel as well. TyreSafe advice for Spring Bank Holiday bikers

TyreSafe is urging motorcyclists to check their tyres before heading out on the roads in time for the later than normal Spring Bank Holiday, which also includes the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations the next day. The weekend overlaps with the Isle of Man TT races, meaning many more bikers will be heading out to watch the action, making pre-journey tyre checks even more important.

Stuart Jackson re-elected TyreSafe chairman

Road safety organisation TyreSafe has re-elected Stuart Jackson for the second time as its chairman for a further two years. Membership at the organisation has enjoyed continued growth during Jackson’s tenure, started in 2009, extending to car manufacturers, insurers, equipment suppliers and other relevant road safety bodies such as police forces, the Highways agency and the Association of Chief Fire Officers. TyreSafe was also awarded the Prince Michael International Safety Award, which recognises achievement and innovations which will improve road safety, in 2009

TyreSafe launches labelling materials at industry briefing

Industry safety body, TyreSafe launched its tyre labelling educational material ahead of the scheme’s 1 July voluntary introduction at its latest briefing on 3 May. The event was called the biggest and most successful industry briefing since the organisation started them last year, with more than 170 delegates attending and participating.

Goodyear Dunlop tests thousands of tyres ahead of EU tyre labelling

Goodyear Dunlop has tested 1200 Goodyear and another 1000 Dunlop branded tyres ensuring that these are ready to meet the new EU tyre labelling regulation that takes full effect on 1 November 2012. The tests covered 70 and 50 tyre types for Goodyear and Dunlop respectively.

According to the company, the grading of all the tyres took nearly a year and was done at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Luxemburg, which is the company’s main tyre research and development facility in the region. The new regulation requires each manufacturer to test tyres internally for the new gradings, based on strictly defined EU testing methods.

TIF publishes labelling advice

With just two months to go before Tyre Labelling starts appear in the market, TIF is offering its advice. The EU tyre labelling Regulation comes into effect for tyre manufacturers from 1 July. From that date retailers can expect to see certain deliveries of tyres arriving with the new “consumer advice” label affixed. The full impact for retail premises is 1 November, when retailers have to pass on this information to consumers. That leaves just 6 months to prepare for the biggest change in tyre retailing for years.

Tyre sealant specialist Air-Seal joins TyreSafe

TyreSafe has sealed the deal on another new member. Tyre sealant supplier Air-Seal Products joined the tyre retailers and distributors, car manufacturers, insurers and public bodies promoting tyre safety already in the not-for-profit organisation. “Air-Seal Products will be a valuable addition to TyreSafe, says chairman Stuart Jackson. “Indeed, it seems particularly appropriate that Air-Seal should join TyreSafe as its products are designed to prevent punctures and have a heavy emphasis on making driving safer.

Caravan season is coming – how are your tyres?

The larger the tyres, the greater the benefit of TPMS

With giant OTR tyres containing enough cooped up energy to project a person two kilometres, the particular importance of tyre safety on mine sites is perhaps underestimated. One way of redressing this balance, raising awareness of the pressure and condition of a tyre and at the same time saving emissions, fuel and therefore money, is to employ tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) to keep an eye on these large and expensive components.

TyreSafe kickstarts ‘PACT’ campaign

Tyre retailers and bike dealerships are being urged to take part in TyreSafe’s ‘PACT’ campaign and help bikers maximising their road safety. PACT stands for – Performance, Air, Condition and Tread. The idea is that if riders make a PACT with their bike and ensure they check their tyres for air pressure, overall condition and tread depth then they will be rewarded with better performance including improved handling, grip and fuel economy.

RMI accuses Treasury of "spin over fuel prices"

"Treasury officials are trying to spin their way out of the current debate over fuel duty by suggesting that they are giving £4 billion back to the motorist by deferring previous duty increases," said Brian Madderson, RMI Petrol Chairman.

On the 24 February The Financial Times stated that 'faced with a virulent media campaign and public protests at Westminster this month in favour of fuel duty cuts, the chancellor’s aides say he has provided more than £4bn to help motorists and cannot afford anymore.'

Tyresafe: High fuel prices needn’t pressurise motorists

With fuel prices reaching record levels, TyreSafe has reminded motorists about the fuel efficiency benefits of correct tyre pressure as well as providing maximum safety and prolonging tyre life.

While beleaguered UK motorists are now paying as much as 144.67p per litre for diesel on average, TyreSafe points out that apart from improved safety and the reduced risk of experiencing a dangerous blowout, correctly inflated tyres provide lower running costs.
