Vauxhall MasterFit Offering Safety Incentives With Tyre Purchases

Vauxhall MasterFit is not only offering to price match any local area tyre quote – customers making tyre purchases will also receive a free 25-point vehicle health check and a tyre pressure gauge. New Deal Puts TPMS in Cab, at Headquarters

Tire Review – Doran Manufacturing and DriverTech have reached a collaborative development agreement to integrate the Doran 360 TPMS with DriverTech’s Windows-based onboard computing and mobile communications system for Class 7-8 trucks. The companies said that integrating the tire pressure monitoring capability into the DriverTech TruckPC, tyre pressures for tractors and trailers can now be monitored in both the truck cab and at fleet headquarters in real-time. “We are excited to offer the capability to communicate tire pressure information and critical low pressure warnings to both the driver and fleet managers,” said Doran General Manager Jim Samocki. “We are proud to be working with a high-caliber company like DriverTech, to expand their capabilities into tyre pressure monitoring.”

PCL to Show Nitrogen Analyzer at SEMA

Tyre inflation equipment maker, PCL, will be showing its brand new Accura compact nitrogen analyzer – a rugged piece of equipment which can read the actual percentage of nitrogen in tyres. According to the company, other products on the market read only the amount of oxygen and therefore the PCL analyzer removes the need to convert the oxygen percentage into the figure for nitrogen.

As with all PCL products, the new Nitrogen Analyzer provides the highest levels of accuracy and is made for ease of use, with a simple to operate, one button operation, auto diagnostic with error code to simplify troubleshooting, and a replaceable battery and sensor. The battery life is extended by an automatic power off function.

The Accura Mobile features a Nitrogen “convert and purge” of air inflated tyres and a “top-up” of Nitrogen inflated tyres. It can be used with either a Nitrogen bottle or generator. With six hose outlets for multi tyre inflation it can provide high speed on or off site inflation and is especially designed for US applications.

Meanwhile, the company points out that anyone concerned about California Tyre Pressure should “make a pitstop at PCL booth to find out” more about compliance to these new guidelines.

Bearcat Launches Duratough Tyre Watch System

Bearcat tyres has introduced the Duratough Tyre Watch system to the Australian mining industry. According to a press release, the system comprises of tyre sensors that screw onto the valve stems of tyres and a monitor fitted in the cab. Bearcat reports that the pressure monitors are simple to install. Once installed, the sensors transmit a coded RF signal to alert a drop in pressure and the cab monitor displays each tyre's pressure reading and sends an audible alert if tyre pressure drops.

PressurePro and enTIRE Launch Tyre Pressure Management Package

Advantage PressurePro, LLC and Vehicle Management Corporation Pty Ltd have introduced enTIRE PressureAgent. The PressureAgent interfaces with PressurePro’s with market leading TPMS with Vehicle Management Corporation’s advanced Tire Management Software (enTIRE) and reads, analyzes and reports tyre pressure information. The enTIRE system compares pressure readings to the recommended pressure for each tyre type and vehicle position.

“Our uploading capability provides our customers with the ability to download historical pressure readings from each tyre on a vehicle into enTIRE, which contains detailed information about the recommended pressure for each tyre and axle”, said Mark Fernie, managing director of Vehicle Management Corporation, adding: “We were impressed with the simplicity of the PressurePro system which allows quick implementation on a fleet of vehicles with a robust pressure reading system.”

Pirelli to Release Microchipped “Intelligent” Tyre

The Energy Harvesting Journal has reported that Pirelli is close to releasing its latest innovative tyre technology – a microchip to supply tyre and road condition information to the car’s electronic control system. It is designed to increase safety. The new product is expected to become available in the company’s Cyber Tyre Lean and Cyber Tyre in early 2010.

The Cyber Lean will register tyre pressure and temperature data, noting too the average load of the vehicle. It is attached to the inner lining and can store information such as the tyre’s production date and site. It derives the energy necessary to work from vibrations, further enhancing its environmentally friendly credentials.

The Cyber Tyre, which will be released later, will have the electronic sensor inserted directly into the tyre structure. A triaxial accelerometer will, according to the Journal, “give data on the actual and potential friction coefficients, the force of the contact between tyre and road, and on the load, instantaneously.” It supersedes current tyre sensor technology by being able to “correct wrong behaviour in advance.”

Protyre Offers Run-Flat Advice to Caravaners

The number of vehicles utilising run-flat tyres is increasing year by year, and while typical application allows such tyres to be used for a set distance following a loss of air pressure, different issues come into play when run-flats are fitted to a vehicle that is towing a caravan or trailer. This warning has been voiced by Protyre, who says that while normally inflated run-flat tyres on a vehicle towing a caravan or trailer can be treated in the same way as a standard tyre, a deflated run-flat is only designed to cope with the demands of a solo vehicle. The additional mass of a towed caravan or trailer subjects the tyre to higher stress levels and impacts on the tyre’s in-built torsional and lateral stability. The consequences of this is, notes Protyre, that even when travelling at a restricted speed of 50 mph for 50 miles – the speed and distance recommended by most manufactures of this type of tyre – the additional flexibility of the deflated run-flat tyre may negatively affect the stability of the car/caravan combination.

ATS Euromaster Pumps Up Tyre Pressure Message

ATS Euromaster is urging motorists to adjust their tyre pressures if they plan to travel with a heavy load this summer, in a season which is expected to see more Britons pack their cars for a holiday on home shores than in previous years. Chris Hufflett, group operations director for ATS Euromaster, which has 460 automotive fast-fit centres across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, said:

“If you are carrying a full load of passengers with luggage or will be towing a caravan or trailer, tyre pressures must be increased in line with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. It’s a simple five minute job, but from our experience, the majority of drivers don’t bother. Few people realise that it is the air inside a tyre which carries the weight of the vehicle and its load, not the tyre itself, hence nearly every car has two recommended pressure settings – one for ‘normal’ use and a higher figure for full loads.”

PPI Releases New ‘Ultra-Light’ Forged Wheel

Audi tuner, PPI Automotive Design GmbH, has presented a new wheel which the company says is specially adjusted for “the design vocabulary and the technical requirements of the current Audi fleet.” The forged aluminium wheel features 11 long-drawn spokes and weighs next to nothing – the 9.0 x 19 size only weighs 9.85 kg. Approved for speeds up to 400 km/h, the wheel is compatible with the tyre pressure control/TPMS designed by Continental. The rim PPI MAG11 is available in 19 and 20-inch diameters and black, matt black and carbon silver finishes for all current Audi models. Prices start at 995 euros.

Nokian Further Expands Forest Rider Range

The Nokian Forest Rider product family has been expanded with new sizes intended for large and heavy tractors. These further additions to the Forest Rider range are designed, says Nokian, for demanding and highly challenging usage conditions such as the harvesting of energy wood and building & maintaining forest roads. Pirelli Offers Welsh Drivers Tyre Pressure Checks

The World Rally Championship arrives in Wales in early December (4-6) for its final stage of the season. To coincide with the event, Pirelli’s depots in South Wales are offering motorists in the region free tyre pressure checks between 1 and 13 December. The Italian manufacturer supplies the control tyres for the series, whose final leg takes place in the Cardiff area.

Tyresure Encourages Winter Tyre Pressure Check

Tyresure is encouraging drivers to check their tyre pressures as the temperatures plummet. With winter drawing in and early mornings seeing temperatures nudging zero and below, many motorists aren’t checking their tyres and adjusting for the cooler temperatures. Air contracts when it is cooled, meaning that first thing in the morning your car tyre pressures could be several pounds lower than they were during the summer months – with an obvious effect on your car’s handling and road manners.
