The point S network has extended its presence in North America by joining forces with Pneus Unimax, on of the largest independent Canadian networks. Pneus Unimax operates in Quebec, the Atlantic Provinces and Ontario, and is owned by 77 independent tyre dealers who manage 133 outlets under the Unipneu banner. If an article in one South African newspaper is correct, the concept behind the country’s new tyre recycling scheme was stolen from another organisation. The New Age has printed claims made by Jeff Osborne, CEO of industry association the Retail Motor Industry (RMI). According to The New Age, Osborne says the REDISA plan, approved by the South African government last week, was “stolen from under their noses by the former chairperson of a sister organisation.”
A team from Michelin’s research and development facility in Ladoux, France, has completed a UK trial to demonstrate how fitting tractors with tyres which can operate at very low pressures can save over 20 per cent in fuel costs. The team used a pair of Fendt tractors at Merrist Wood College in Guildford, Surrey before an audience of leading farmers, agronomists and tyre dealers.
Lanxess has announced that it is partnering with the National Tyre Distributor’s Association (NTDA) to ensure tyre dealers and wholesalers across the UK have everything they need to prepare for mandatory tyre labelling when it is introduced on 1 November.
Cam Systems newly developed website is designed specifically with tyre labelling in mind. The company wants to ensure customers are informed how to be totally operational and compliant in this area by November this year; the label will need to be present at point of sale on 1 November 2012 and Cam’s customers have been looking to the software provider to provide increased functionality to cover this requirement. In support of this, Cam says its own website (www.cam-systems.co.uk) has been designed to offer in-depth guidance and advice on the impending legislation.
Marangoni Car Tyres, the Marangoni Group business unit that manufactures and sells new tyres, showed a range of the company’s flagship products during the recent Reifen 2012 exhibition. This includes products such as the M-Power, Marangoni high performance orientated product as well as E-Comm and 4Winter Comm tyres, which are described as Marangoni’s summer and winter products for light commercial vehicles. The 4ICE Geco, the newest winter supersoft tyre dedicated to Northern European customers, was also introduced.

Van rental specialist Hiregate Vehicle Rental has appointed ATS Euromaster as its tyre service provider. Hiregate specified a company with commercial vehicle expertise and a national branch network to provide comprehensive support to customers.
Hiregate was established in 2011 and added 1,000 light commercials to its books in the first 12 months. Today the fleet numbers more than 1,500 vehicles, ranging from compact city vans to high roof, long wheelbase models, plus chassis cabs mounted with box, tipper, Luton and dropsied bodies. The company is still poised for growth, having the stated aim of growing its fleet to 3,000+ vehicles by the end of the year.
Although an independent company, Hiregate has been set up on the back of the established Dawson Group operation, allowing it to utilse the 24 existing Dawson Group sites across the UK to provide customers with a nationwide rental network.
Following Micheldever Tyres Services’ recent announcement that its branches are implementing a scrapping policy on all removed passenger car tyres, the Retread Manufacturers Association (RMA) has signalled its disappointment with this approach.
