Trelleborg Wheel Systems is investing in a two-wheel tyre factory in India. According to the company, the investment forms part of Trelleborg’s strategy to “strengthen its positions in attractive market segments”. Currently Trelleborg’s mostly makes two-wheel tyres in Europe. Products include tyres for selected niches, such as enduro and motocross, as well as scooters,
mopeds and motorcycles.
“Following a turbulent few months, it is encouraging to see that the motorcycle market bounced back in June with registrations up 7.8 per cent”, said Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK, commenting on figures published by the Motor Cycle Industry Association.
With the introduction of its two-wheel tyre range, Apollo Tyres now offers its full portfolio in Sri Lanka. As is the case with the company’s other products, the two-wheel range is being distributed within the country by sole national distributor Ideal Wheels & Tyres.

Avon Tyres has increase production its Cobra motorcycle tyre in response to the successful launch of the new Triumph Bonneville Bobber.
The Cobra tyre is the OE fitment on every Bobber that rolls off the production line, with the bespoke front and rear tyres specially designed for this premium custom bike.
British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has selected the Avon Cobra tyre as the original equipment fitment for the newly launched Triumph Bonneville Bobber.
Avon’s 100/90-19 57V Cobra, which exists within the current motorcycle tyre range, has been further developed to improve performance and is the front tyre of choice on Triumph’s latest bike.
“In what is traditionally a low volume month for motorcycle registrations, it was encouraging to see a strong 4 per cent growth in sales over the same period last year – ahead of the 66-plate change next month”, said Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK.
ZC Rubber’s new bike tyre factory in Anji, Zhejiang province, has commenced production. The Anji factory is associated with an investment of up to US$620 million and covers 860,000 square metres, focusing on the motorcycle tyres, e-bike tyres and inner tubes etc. Shen Jinrong, president of ZC Rubber, says that the factory‘s output value amounts to more than $1 billion.
The Michelin Group has acquired Levorin, a Brazilian manufacturer of bicycle and motorcycle tyres.
Levorin is a family business which was founded in 1943 by Hercules Levorin. It specializes in the production of tyres for the commuter segment in Brazil. In 2015 Levorin had an annual turnover of 135 million euros and employs 2,000 people at its two plants in Sao Paulo and Manaus.
India’s TVS Srichakra has reinforced its activities in Europe in recent times, not least through its growing range of off-highway tyres sold under the TVS Eurogrip brand name. The company showed off a selection of these products, specifically agricultural flotation radials, at May’s Reifen show in Germany, alongside tyres for two-wheel vehicles.

TVS Srichakra Limited is set to launch a radial motorcycle tyre range in April. Speaking to the local The Hindu newspaper, company director P. Vijayaraghavan said the new range would “initially cater to the needs of the expanding high-end motorcycles market”.
TVS Srichakra, part of the Chennai-based US$8 billion TVS Group, recently launched tractor rear radial tyres in Europe.
Figures from the Motor Cycle Industry Association show that, in June, registrations of scooters and mopeds were down -7.8 per cent compared with June 2014, at 846 units. However, June motorcycle registrations were up 21.6 per cent year on year at 12,282 units. Overall, two-wheeler sales in June 2015 rose 19.2 per cent.
The year to date registration figures are encouraging too, with the sector showing sales over the first six months of 60,965 machines; a 12.9 per cent rise over the first half of 2014.
