Lassa Tyres has reported that the brand has grown international exports by 60 per cent during the last five years. Top countries, where Lassa Tyres were sold during 2018 include Egypt, Italy, Germany, Austria, Ukraine and Morocco.
Cenk Alper has become chief executive officer of Sabanci Holding, the Turkish conglomerate behind tyre cord producer Kordsa and co-owner of tyre manufacturer Brisa. He succeeds Mehmet Göçmen, who held this position between 30 March 2017 and 31 July 2019.
Petlas has introduced four new run-flat sizes for its PT741 ultra-high performance pattern, namely,. According to the company, Petlas run-flat are capable of distances up to 200 km without “any integrity problems”.
Operations have started at the recently-completed 3,500 square metre polyester line built at the Kordsa plant in Izmit, Turkey. Kordsa’s Tire Reinforcement business unit commenced work on the additional line in December 2017, and 100 million Turkish lira (£13.3 million) has been invested to provide an additional 7,000 tonnes of polyester yarn capacity. The project was carried out as part of plans announced in 2016 to invest $30 million in further capacity for Korda’s plants in Turkey and Indonesia.
Evonik reports that it has developed a new silica that it says is particularly suitable for use in truck and bus (TBR) tyres. In contrast to passenger car tyres, TBR tyres use mainly natural rubber, which, in combination with silane, places special requirements on the silica. With Evonik’s latest silica/silane development, fuel savings could be as high 8 per cent, the company said, which cuts costs and is better for the environment.
Capacity at the Prometeon Tyre Group plant in İzmit, Turkey will increase by 75 per cent by 2020 in order to accommodate plans to almost double exports from the facility. This project will be funded by a US$115 million investment announced by the company on Tuesday.

Market analysts at Clear report that the Eastern Europe trailer market has been hit by a severe downturn in the Turkish market for commercial vehicles. The forecast for Turkey in 2017 is for a fall in trailer demand of 29 per cent on the back of large declines in 2015 and 2016. Political instability had already undermined business confidence in early 2016 and then in mid-year there was an attempted military coup. This had a dire and worsening effect on business investment. As a result, a further 19,700 trailers have been wiped from the Turkish forecast.
Several strategic changes have been implemented within the organisational structure of Turkish tyre maker Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci. The joint venture company has grouped its activities into three main units – ‘Sales’, ‘Marketing and Entrepreneurship’ and ‘International Markets and OE Business’.
Through its subsidiary Marangoni Kauçuk, Marangoni Retreading Systems has established a new warehouse and head office in Istanbul. From this site, Marangoni will both supply the Turkish city’s retreaders and its nationwide network.
When completed, Istanbul New Airport will be the largest airport in the world. At this point in time, however, the future airport is a 7,650-hectare building site, and Goodyear reports it is supplying tyres and support to more than 3,000 construction vehicles currently at work there.
