Petlas Tire and Trade Corp. reports that it recently completed its Final Finish Sorting System (FFSS) and also started to build a fully automatic warehouse.
With that smart warehouse Petlas aims to have product traceability feature from production line to delivery to all its customers around the world. In addition, the smart warehouse means less space and effectiveness compared with other conventional solutions.
Already a market leader in the agricultural tyre segment in the North Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe, Turkish tyre manufacturer Petlas is now aiming to increase its passenger car and truck tyre sales figures in the years to come. To this end, the firm reports that it made a series of investments in its passenger car tyre production during 2017.
Market analysts at Clear report that the Eastern Europe trailer market has been hit by a severe downturn in the Turkish market for commercial vehicles. The forecast for Turkey in 2017 is for a fall in trailer demand of 29 per cent on the back of large declines in 2015 and 2016. Political instability had already undermined business confidence in early 2016 and then in mid-year there was an attempted military coup. This had a dire and worsening effect on business investment. As a result, a further 19,700 trailers have been wiped from the Turkish forecast.
Several strategic changes have been implemented within the organisational structure of Turkish tyre maker Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci. The joint venture company has grouped its activities into three main units – ‘Sales’, ‘Marketing and Entrepreneurship’ and ‘International Markets and OE Business’.
Through its subsidiary Marangoni Kauçuk, Marangoni Retreading Systems has established a new warehouse and head office in Istanbul. From this site, Marangoni will both supply the Turkish city’s retreaders and its nationwide network.
When completed, Istanbul New Airport will be the largest airport in the world. At this point in time, however, the future airport is a 7,650-hectare building site, and Goodyear reports it is supplying tyres and support to more than 3,000 construction vehicles currently at work there.
Petlas Tire Corp has expanded its run-flat tyre range to include szies: 245/50 R18, 275/45 R18, 215/40 R18, 225/40 R18, 225/40 R19, 245/40 R20, 255/40 R18, 275/40 R18, 225/35 R19, 225/35 R20, 245/35 R18, 245/35 R19, 245/35 R20, 255/35 R18, 275/35 R18, 275/35 R19, 275/35 R20, 285/35 R18, 285/35 R19, 245/30 R19, 255/30 R20, 285/30 R19 and 285/30 R20. According to the Turkey-based tyre manufacturer, the new sizes can be found in the firm’s car tyres and SUV tyre ranges.
Marangoni Retreading Systems is now working with two new retreaders and dealers in Turkey, Basoglu and Dirkap.
Starting in November 2016, Cambrian Tyres have begun distribution in the UK of Turkish two-wheel specialist tyre brand, Anlas. Already familiar to many in Europe with a history stretching back 40 years, Anlas manufactures a wide range of tyres from its factory in Duzce, between Istanbul and Ankara. The current Anlas range includes tyre applications for commuters and urban motorcycles; lightweight bikes; classic machines; large adventure motorcycles; and scooters and mopeds. Cambrian says the Anlas range offers riders excellent quality and value for money from a well-established European brand.
Cimcorp is supplying a fully automated handling system to Petlas Tire Corporation at its factory in Kirsehir, Turkey, about 100 miles southeast of Ankara. Based on Cimcorp’s Dream Factory solution, the automation will handle finished passenger car radial tyre-finishing and palletizing areas. Work on the order – Cimcorp’s first project for Petlas – is already underway and the turnkey material handling system will become operational in the autumn of 2017.
The East European market will grow by over 6 per cent in 2016 and by almost 5 per cent in 2017, according to a Clear International analysis. But there have been considerable changes. Halit Şensoy, international markets director at Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci for the past six and a half years, has been appointed consultant to the chief executive officer, OEM business. This appointment took effect 3 October, and as of that day his former position was taken on by Ertan Kurt, who is now responsible for the Lassa tyre brand’s sales and marketing at an international level.
Turkish joint venture tyre maker Brisa Bridgestone Sabancı Lastik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. – or Brisa, as it is more commonly known – intends to primarily utilise a US$150 million long-term loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and $160 million from a syndicated loan transaction arranged and coordinated by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) for the greenfield factory it is now building in Anatolia. A portion of the financing will also be directed towards the expansion of Brisa’s truck and bus tyre plant in Izmit.
