Max Power Returns to the NEC

Max Power Live, the UK’s biggest modified motor show, will be returning to Birmingham for its eighth consecutive year from Friday 30 June through to Sunday 2 July 2006. The number one custom car event, a collaboration between Haymarket Exhibitions and Emap Automotive, will fill 500,000 square feet of the National Exhibition Centre this summer.

The organisers of this year’s Max Power Live are expecting to entertain more than 50,000 car enthusiasts as they descend upon the NEC to catch a glimpse of the latest in tuning, styling, drifting performances and ‘In Car Entertainment’ (ICE).

Vredestein to Launch New Tyre and Logo

(Akron/Tire Review) Vredestein Tyres North America plans to introduce the new Ultrac Sessanta later this year, which the company says is its “newest trump card in the UHP segment.”

Giugiaro Design has also created a restyled logo for Vredestein. “The design of the new logo is more streamlined and the lettering is more powerful,” the company said. “The new logo is more in line with Vredestein’s image and Vredestein’s quality products in the top sports segment.”

Mythos Performs Well in 24 Hour Charity Race

Beru F1 Systems Wins Motorsport Industry Innovation Award

Diss-based Beru F1 Systems has won an Motor Industry Association (MIA) innovation award for its DigiTyre tyre pressure monitoring system. The achievement was formally recognised at the annual Motorsport Industry Association Awards held during the Autosport International exhibition at the NEC. Beru’s MIA Business Excellence Award for Technology and Innovation was one of only seven awards presented. The company’s latest tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is currently used in the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, the world’s fastest road car.

The UK’s First Track-Day Show

The Trackdays.com Show – the first-ever trackday-focussed event of its kind in the UK – gets the green flag on Sunday 30 April 2006 at Rockingham Motor Speedway, Northants. Organiser Ian Raybould, of Trackdays.com, said: “There are car shows and there are motorsport shows, but this one is totally focussed on trackdays, trackday and performance products and driving experiences.

MAHA at Aftermarket Show

MAHA has signed up for next year’s Aftermarket Show. The event, which runs from January 12 to 15 2006 at Birmingham NEC, has grown “rapidly” in recent months, according to organisers.

On display at the MAHA stand will be the LPS 3000 High Power Dynamometer Roller Set and Display Console. The company will be demonstrating the product’s capabilities through pre-recorded results of actual tests. With the roller set on the stand, MAHA will also show the workings of the hardware.

Crypton Tuning is Relaunched

‘Crypton Tuning’ is a well-known phrase within the garage equipment industry. One unique aspect of the ‘Crypton Tune’ is that car drivers went to garages and actually asked for a Crypton Tune. As part of the long term marketing strategy Crypton is re-launching this ‘Crypton Tune’ phrase. Therefore if drivers have faults with their cars or just feel they are under performing they can seek out a ‘Crypton Tune’ by a garage that uses Crypton’s latest diagnostic or service equipment. This will in-turn help garages to ‘sell on’ their diagnostic and service capabilities to their customers.

If you talk to engineers at Goodyear Test Centre: Luxembourg (GTC*L), they will probably tell you just how radically “tyre testing has changed over the last 20 years” and how pleased they are to have been at the forefront of these developments. During a recent visit to the company’s Luxembourg operation, officials showed Tyres & Accessories just how far Goodyear is willing to go to develop and improve the comfort and safety of its products.

Nestled amongst the Goodyear Luxembourg complex which includes, tyre production, mould making an truck tyre mounting facilities, the GTC*L is made up of three main buildings; GTC*L itself the Tyre and Vehicle Testing Laboratory and Laboratory B. A day touring the Tyre and Vehicle testing laboratory alone is quite an education. In addition the people at the Goodyear’s neighbouring test track have a fleet of trucks, buses and cars that are perpetually testing tyres, clocking up 10 million kilometres a year. The quantity of data that the centre’s 44 PhDs wade through is immense, but here is just one example of the GTC*L’s daily activities.

New Tuning Association Founded

A new European Tuning Association has been founded. VATZ (Verband Automobil Tuning/Zubehör – association of automotive tuning/accessories) held its inaugural meeting on the 15th September in Frankfurt. The association will have the task of representing the interests of the entire tuning industry, especially with regard to the legislative bodies, on a national level and international level. As a trade association, VATZ aims to represent the entire spectrum of European tuning providers.

TRW and Goodyear Create New ESC System Thanks to ‘Talking Tyres’

TRW Automotive Goodyear Tire & Rubber have jointly developed a new system that is designed to automatically adjust the performance parameters of a vehicle’s electronic stability control (ESC) system based on the dimensions and other characteristics of the vehicle’s tyres.

Hankook and Hamann Forge Agreement

Hankook Tire Co has signed alliance agreement with German tuning company, Hamann Motorsport, company officials have reported. Under the deal, Hankook Tire will cooperate with Hamann Motorsport in promoting their brand recognition and carrying out joint promotional activities, the Asia Pulse agency has reported.

Audi’s ‘Attitude’ Swayed by Dunlops

The 2005 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro has a new sport suspension, electric power steering and Dunlop ultra-performance tyres – the latter of which have been praised by Car and Driver magazine in its recent tests. The magazine drove the optional sport package and reviewed the car’s tyres, 235/45ZR17 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, on two fronts; comfort level and steering response.

New Pattern For Sonar Brand

Nankang Rubber Tyre Co Ltd has launched a new pattern for its Sonar brand. According to the company the Sonar SX1 is aimed at the high performance market, and the company is planning to introduce new sales channels in across Europe countries in 2005. Sizes will also be enlarged to between 15 and 19 inches in order to cater for demand form tuning shops.

Roesler/USW Reach Stalemate Over Bryan OTR Plant

If you ask the USW in Bryan, Ohio, whether or not Roesler are going to buy Continental’s OTR tyre plant, they will say no. Ask Roesler management and it’s a completely different answer.

This week local representatives of the USW published a statement saying that the proposed plan to sell the CTNA plant to the German Roesler Group was off because the two sides had failed to agree on a satisfactory labour agreement. “We went the extra mile in trying to reach a new contract agreement,” said John Bowling, the USW/Continental Tire Unit chairman. “We just couldn’t get a deal.”
