Indian manufacturer Ceat Limited intends to launch a range of truck radial tyres in Europe during the first half of this year. Speaking during an earnings call yesterday, managing director Anant Goenka said the range would arrive in “four to six months’ time” and further push the strong growth the company is already experiencing in the region. The line-up would be similarly positioned to the “Korean players” in the market, he added.
The overall trends illustrated by the most recent ETRMA tyre market data are undoubtedly useful to all parties, however some of the figures will raise eyebrows. Goodyear and the FIA European Truck Racing Championship (FIA ETRC) have renewed their long-standing partnership with another three-year contract extension. The tyre maker says this underlines its “commitment to the exciting future vision of FIA ETRC”, including an increased focus on innovation, sustainability and talent development.
Prometeon Tyre Group UK has appointed Jamie Courtnage as Business Development Manager for the North East. He is responsible for new business and account management for Prometeon’s customer base of truck, bus and coach operators and tyre dealers in the eastern part of the country from Norwich to the Scottish Borders.
M&N Transport is a Wiltshire-based bulk transport firm. The company runs its growing commercial vehicle fleet of 35 trucks and 40 trailers exclusively on Michelin, having found the tyres to last significantly longer than any other truck tyre in the market. M&N is also utilising Michelin’s Effitrailer telematics package across its fleet of trailers and the company has experienced reduced downtime and cut its fuel costs since making the switch to Michelin, improving the sustainability of its operation in the process.
As part of the global footprint restructuring announced as part of its Mid Term Business Plan (2021-2023), Bridgestone Corporation is shutting one of the two truck tyre plants it currently operates in China. It will close the Bridgestone (Huizhou) Tire Co., Ltd. (BSHZ) facility by the end of 2021, consolidating its manufacturing footprint into the Bridgestone (Shenyang) Tire Co., Ltd. (BSSY) plant.
Pre-Q Galgo Corporation has published details of its extension of the company’s Extreme tread line that includes the addition of 12 designs that were lab-tested down to 80 below and received Three-Peak Mountain Snow Flake (3PMSF) certification.
This year, Goodyear asked fleet operators in Europe for their views on issues related to sustainability and what they’re doing to reduce carbon footprint. A total of 985 fleets from 36 European countries responded during August and September 2021, and the results of this 2021 Goodyear Sustainable Reality Survey are now out and available from Goodyear upon request. Responses suggest that sustainability has a significant prominence for operators in the transportation industry.
Hankook has collaborated with Hyundai and other partners on a new sustainability roadshow. A Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell fitted with Hankook SmartFlex AH31 and DH31 tyres is travelling around Germany until 8 December to promote ecologically optimised supply chains. Hankook’s partners in the event include H2 Green Power & Logistics GmbH, which is building an ecosystem for green hydrogen in the commercial vehicle sector, including company filling stations; and H2 MOBILITY Germany, the world’s largest hydrogen filling station operator, which operates 87 of the 91 public H2 stations in Germany alone.
