India’s anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made TBR tyres are scheduled to expire this month, but tyre association ATMA requested a review of these on behalf of Apollo Tyres, JK Tyre & Industries and MRF. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies published the results of this Sunset Review on 16 September, recommending the government continue charging duties for a further three years.
Hendrick European, provider of customised logistics and transportation services across Ireland and Europe, has seen exceptional mileage from the Michelin X Multi D tyres it runs across its fleet – with one set clocking 500,000 km. The Dublin-based firm, which specialises in road transport, groupage and distribution of all types of goods, operates 95 trucks and 150 trailers from depots in Ireland, UK and Poland.
During the recent IAA 2022 truck event in Germany, Chinese tyremaker Prinx Chengshan released its TH155 truck tyre pattern. The new trailer hybrid, OE oriented tyre is described as having “outstanding overall performance”, something that is attested by its “A” and “B” ratings for wet grip and fuel consumption on the European tyre label (in 385/65 R22.5). The tyre will be marketed under the Austone ATH155 and Fortune FTH155 brand names.
ZC Rubber launched two new truck tyre products at the recent IAA Transportation 2022 event in Hannover. The WTR2 and the WTX2 tyres are being added to the existing Westlake Gen II truck tyre line.
According to the company, the development of Westlake Gen II is a crucial step toward reaching the company’s vision for sustainable logistics and will also “considerably increase benefits for customers”.
Available now in 215/75R17.5, the all-new Giti GSR236 Combi Road is the first steer tyre to bring the manufacturer’s latest regional and long-haul technology to small and medium commercial vehicles. Giti Tire considers the new range “superior in every aspect” when compared against its popular all-position Giti GAR820, with 30 per cent increases in mileage and wet braking performance, a 20 per cent reduction in noise and single digit improvements in crack, chipping and sidewall protection, enhanced rolling resistance and snow performance.
The latest data shows commercial vehicles are issued 10 times more prohibitions three months after their annual test (MOT), according to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). And the highlighted examples includes tyres worn to the cords.
With TPMS legislation soon to include commercial vehicles, Hamaton is offering a commercial vehicle upgrade for ATEQ VT56 users. ATEQ VT56 users across Europe can purchase the upgrade, to enable them to read and diagnose TPM systems on all commercial vehicles.
Activists Animal Rebellion caused an estimated £80,000 worth of damage by drilling sidewalls or cutting valve stems of around 200 truck tyre at Müller Dairies’ Willenhall depot last week. The tyres were fitted to trucks used to transport milk, with the vegan group acting to interrupt the distribution of dairy products. Police reportedly made 11 arrests on suspicion of criminal damage.
With the launch of its all-new Generation 5 Conti Hybrid tyre range, Continental seeks to equip regional haulage operators with the latest in tyre innovation and technology. First to arrive in the Generation 5 line-up are the Conti Hybrid HS5 for the steer axle in HS5 385/55 R 22.5 and HS5 315/70R22.5 and the Conti Hybrid HD5 for the drive axle in HD5 315/70 R 22.5. Further dimensions will join the range over the coming year.
From a standing start less than a decade ago, GB Tyres is now aiming to be a key player in the UK wholesale business. When the company’s full-year financial results come in at the end of August, turnover will have reached £53 million. So, in other words, the business is trucking along nicely and making good progress towards its goals. On 30 August 2022, Shanghai Huayi, the parent company of Double Coin Tire Group first half results showing the company generated revenue of 4.968 billion yuan (about £614 million, 719 million euros), and operating costs were 4.559 billion yuan (about £564 million, 660 million euros). Within that, the revenue of all-steel radial tyres and semi-steel radial tyres was 4.6 billion yuan (about £569 million, 666 million euros) and 368 million yuan (roughly £45.51 million, 53.25 million euros).

Much has changed during that time, so with Kirkby Tyres’s parent company celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Tyres & Accessories spoke to chairman Gordon Rosenthal in order to find out more about the past, present and future of the well-known tyre wholesaler.
Tyrenet its pitched as the “’go to’ tyre emergency service” for many tyre dealers and fleets all over the UK and increasingly in Europe. In 2021, the introduction of Tyrenet’s on-line tyre ordering solution meant it could provide a service for the public as well as commercial fleets that didn’t have an account or contract with a local tyre dealer.
Hämmerling – The Tyre Company GmbH, a tyre wholesaler based in Paderborn, Germany and active throughout Europe, with its own Athos, Talas and Sämm tyre, is expanding its Samson product line-up to include a wide range of truck and bus tyres.
On 31 August, Guizhou Tyre released its semi-annual report. In the year’s first half, Guizhou Tyre produced 3.7005 million tyres, a year-on-year increase of 3.53 per cent, and sold 3.4447 million tyres, a rise of 1.07 per cent. During the same period, the tyre company’s revenue reached 3.949 billion yuan (about £490 million, 570 million euros), an increase of 13.16 per cent, and achieved a net profit of 160 million yuan (about £19.86 million, 23.12 million euros).
