Prometeon Tyre Group has launched its new SuperTruck UK network to supply its branded tyres alongside tailored maintenance and audit services for truck fleet operators. SuperTruck was first launched in Italy in 2019 and is successfully rolling out to six other European markets: Poland, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland. According to the company, Prometeon UK has been working with an initial 16 tyre dealers to tailor their product offering and services in line with the company’s SuperTruck initiative designed uniquely to support the needs of truck fleet operators.
Marangoni has manufactured a Ringtread tyre that achieved an “A” class energy saving level in the same test used for new tyres (ECE.R 117). The result was achieved by applying a Blackline tread ring with an optimised design for low rolling resistance on a high-quality casing, which featured the best rolling resistance class already in its first life. The ring used for this test featured “a special compound created ad hoc for the occasion”. Retreading took place at Marangoni’s plant in Rovereto, where the group’s headquarters and R&D centre are also located. The test was carried out by the independent test laboratory Prüflabor Nord.
Clugston Distribution Services says the Michelin X Multi Energy tyre specified as original equipment on 35 new Renault 6×2 tractor units is helping to improve fuel consumption by up to six per cent. The Scunthorpe company, which transports bulk powder and fuel, has used Michelin’s multi-life policy for nearly 30 years. It has operated the X Multi Energy-shod tractor units for six months. Clugston Distribution Services’ fleet, including 110 Renault trucks and 180 trailers, all run on Michelin multi-life tyres from its Scunthorpe site and depots in Driffield, Teesside and Hull.
Nordic private equity investor Norvestor has acquired a majority stake of Scandinavia and Poland based truck tyre distributor Colmec Group. The company was founded in the 1960s by the Eckerström family, which previously led the company. Peter Eckerström, who stepped down as CEO in early 2022, and the family will remain as minority shareholders after the company’s leadership opted to bring in the new majority owner to lead the company into a new development phase.
In a significant development building on the retreading brand’s pre-cure heritage, Bridgestone-owned Bandag is expanding its portfolio of mould-cured retread activities with the launch of Bandag Hotread.
The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has extended the NTDA’s deadline for submission of pre-sampling questionnaires following a request from the tyre industry body. At the start of May, TRA initiated two transition reviews into anti-dumping (T0035) and anti-subsidy (T0036) measures on lorry and bus tyres imported from China. However, the initial deadline for that was 18 May 2023 – too short a time period for many.

Goodyear is gathering information for its annual Sustainable Reality Survey and invites European transport fleets to participate for the third consecutive year. Fleets interested in participating can do so until 21 July.

Thanks to the deployment of a “comprehensive technology package,” Hankook Tire states that its latest generation of drive, steer and all-position truck tyres deliver “considerably less rolling resistance” than their predecessors. These new tyres are the Hankook SmartLine AL50 and SmartLine DL50.
Anyline has launched commercial vehicle tyre tread scanning technology that can be used on any camera-enabled smartphone or mobile device. According to the company, the solution allows fleet operators to “improve tyre performance and longevity, ensure driver safety and reduce vehicle inspection time”.
On 5 May, Jiangsu General announced plans to build a tyre plant in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia, China. The total investment is about 1.51 billion yuan (about £170 million; €200 million). After completion, it will produce 1.2 million all-steel radial truck tyres and 100,000 OTR tyres per year. Jiangsu General says it is “the first modern tyre factory in Baotou City”.
Following a trial lasting 11 years, from 31 May 2023 longer semi-trailers (LST) will be permitted on British roads. These trailers measure up to 2.05 metres longer than a standard semi-trailer, and the Department for Transport anticipates their use will lead to substantial economic and environmental benefits. The list of savings includes reduced tyre costs.
Commercial Tyre Services Bristol is going digital for the first time with the integration of CAM’s Fitter-Force into its business. This will enable the provider to go paperless and introduce connectivity options with the four major tyre manufacturers participating on the network, principally through its adoption of e-jobsheet.
