GITI Tire (UK) Ltd has achieved registration to the ISO 9001:2008 internationally recognised internal quality management standard. This independent assessment was conducted by The British Assessment Bureau (BAB) and, say company representatives, demonstrates GITI Tire’s commitment to customer service and quality. Wythenshawe, Manchester-based GITI Tire (UK) Ltd has now earned the right to display the BAB logo to show conformity to the standard. The certification for GITI Tire (UK) Ltd. applies to the supply of truck and bus tyres to the UK market.

New Exhibition to Help Find Homes for Post-ITC Tyres

Latin Expo Group Ltd., a Panamanian trade group, is organizing a tyre exhibition and conference for Latin American and Caribbean tyre distributors in Panama City, Panama, 8-11 July 2010. Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo 2010, will be held at Atlapa Convention Center in Panama City, according to the organizer. Latin Expo reports that it is in the process of organizing a programme of international tyre industry speakers to accompany the exposition, according to a spokesman for the group, who said the group’s vision “is to bring the global manufacturers and suppliers directly to the Latin markets and to get the Latin dealers to those manufacturers in a familiar and inexpensive venue.” 280 exhibitors are said to have signed up so far for a show expected to cover around 85,000 square feet of exhibition space.

Conti’s Tyre Plant the Key to Brazilian Market

The Brazilian tyre market is one of the world’s largest and due to its growth has been counted amongst the most important emerging markets, the so-called BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China), for a number of years now. For the last five years German manufacturer Continental has produced tyres in Brazil and during this time – despite long-established and powerful competition – has built up a solid business there. While Continental sees itself as well positioned in Brazil’s replacement tyre market and already holds a four to eight per cent market share, when Tyres & Accessories visited Continental’s tyre factory in Camaçari, Brazil, we learned that the company now intends to further establish its deliveries to OEM customers.

Continental Tire Gets OE Deal for Medium Duty Ram Trucks

Continental Tire the America will supply OE medium truck tyres for the 2011 Dodge Ram medium-duty chassis cab trucks, Tire Review reports. In a multi-year order, Chrysler Group said all new Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks will be equipped with Continental's HSR (steer) and HDR (drive) tyres in size 225/70R19.5 Load Range G.

Bridgestone Outlines Steps Taken to ‘Green’ its Tyres

Bridgestone Europe’s updated environmental report is a document the company says sets out its “commitment to high environmental standards and the latest steps to achieve them.” This third edition of the ‘Environmental Commitment and Performance’ brochure continues the focus on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of tyre environmental impact from cradle to grave that has been a feature of the publication since its initial launch in 2006, and this year’s report also includes additional information on Bridgestone’s ‘Ecopia’ tyre range.

Yokohama Giving Away Truck Tyres at MATS

FuelMax Technology Awarded by Luxembourg Business Federation

Goodyear reports that its FuelMax Technology for truck tyres came out a winner at awards held by the Luxembourg Business Federation (FEDIL). The federation bestowed its 2009 Environmental Award upon Goodyear, recognising the environmental and cost related benefits FuelMax Technology delivers. According to Goodyear, the judging panel concluded that the development of products featuring new technology proves the importance of research efforts at Luxembourg based sites, such as Goodyear's Innovation Center.

Raw Material Price Cuts Gave Michelin 318 million euros Tailwind in 2H

Financial analysts responded positively to the results, describing second-half 2009 financial position as a “major positive.” However, some key coverage decided against giving forward-looking outlook advice, citing fluctuating raw material costs (specifically natural rubber) as their reasoning.

Writing in an investor’s note dated 12 February, Morgan Stanley representatives commented: “Operating profit was 5 per cent better than consensus, but 3 per cent below our estimate…Net debt was significantly better than expected, ending 2009 at 3.05 billion euros versus our 3.5 billion euros estimate (consensus at 3.6 billion euros).”

Goodyear Drafts New Size into Military Range

If you’re planning to invade a neighbouring land or simply wish to traverse unsealed surfaces, then Goodyear has the tyre for you: the manufacturer is extending its range of truck tyres for military and off-road applications with the introduction of a size 365/85R20 fitment for its Offroad ORD (Off Road Drive) range. The tyre was developed in cooperation with OEMs and has already been homologated by specialist trailer manufacturer Broshuis; other approval processes are also underway.

Continental Extends Football Sponsorship with World Cup 2014 Deal

Continental has extended its sponsorship of international football events with a deal to become the Exclusive Tyre Partner and Official Sponsor of 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. “With preparation for activation of our sponsoring of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa going ahead at full steam, we have already laid the ground for worldwide marketing communication in the next few years by renewing the FIFA partnership through 2014,” explained Nikolai Setzer, Continental Executive Board member for Passenger and Light Truck Tyres.

Goodyear Wolverhampton Returns to Normal Production Levels

Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK has reinstated the “Guaranteed Working Week” at its Bushbury, Wolverhampton tyre retreading and compounding plant. The company reportedly met with Unions and employee representatives in the few days and says the decision will result in all full-time employees being guaranteed a full 42 hour week with immediate effect.

Goodyear Wolverhampton changed shift patterns and moved to reduced hours, dropping the Guaranteed Working Week in December 2008, during the early stages of the economic downturn. At the time this was said to be in response to severely reduced demand for car and truck tyres.
