US Senator “Owes Retreading Industry an Apology”

Although most likely uttered out of ignorance rather than malice, comments made by Iowa Senator Tom Harkin have the potential to tarnish the reputation of retreaders throughout the US. During a speech at the Iowa Democratic Party’s state convention on June 12, Harking referred to a Republican party candidate as a ‘retread’ – an insult that, you may be amazed to learn, has gained a measure of popularity on the other side of the Atlantic – and then continued by saying “and the problem with retreads is that they have a tendency to blow out and cause a lot of wrecks.”

Valvepal Joins TRIB

ValvePal has joined the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB). TRIB described the company as an innovator in developing products to help trucking fleets, owner/operators and company drivers better maintain the air pressure in their tyres.

Label Maker Joins TRIB

Avery Dennison, a company that pioneered the first self-adhesive labels and stamps in the US, has joined the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB). According to an official release from the bureau, published on 29 April, Avery Dennison is a recognized industry leader that develops “innovative identification and decorative solutions for businesses and consumers worldwide.”

Retreaders, Associations Kill Anti-Retread Bill

TIA reports that a coalition of members, other associations and local retreaders were able to defeat pending legislation in Georgia that would have effectively outlawed retreads on government-owned safety vehicles, says Tire Review. Along with TRIB and the RMA, the group worked to amend a House-passed bill that contained the anti-retread provision. The amendment was made in the Senate version of the bill, which was then passed by the Georgia House.

Costa Rican Tyre Retreader Joins TRIB

Costa Rican tyre retreading company Tire Depot has joined the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB). According to the association, Tire Depot is part of the Fanast organization and is opening a new modern retread factory in Costa Rica. TRIB reports that it was “instrumental in helping them source machinery and equipment for their new facility.”

Tyre Retreading Company Ltd Joins TRIB

The largest retreader in Israel, Tyre Retreading Company, Ltd has joined US-based international retreading association Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB). According to a TRIB press release, Tyre Retreading Company has a reputation for producing “the highest quality retreads in a variety of sizes.”

Slovakia Retreader Joins TRIB

Simkovic-Protektor spol. s.r.o. has joined the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, states Tire Review. The company is a family-owned business that belongs to one of the most important manufacturers of cold retreaded tyres in Slovakia. The range of its comprehensive services provided to its customers also includes tyre services, sales of new tyres and disks, disposal of tyres and consulting services, according to TRIB.

Philippine Firm Joins TRIB

Off The Road Tyre Mart Inc. of the Philippines has joined TRIB, reports Tire Review. The new member is a well-established tyre distributor and is considering adding a medium truck radial retreading facility in the Philippines, TRIB said.

TRIB Gains Two More Members

Two more international companies have joined TRIB, reports Tire Review. Nino Llantas S.A. is a large, well-established retreader with many locations throughout Honduras, joined the association. The company was founded in 1974. International tyre import/export form Resources International Network Inc., based locally in Florida but with headquarters in Germany, also joined. “We continue to add members as more and more companies in the new tyre and retread industries throughout the world realise that TRIB is the only international retread industry association representing new tyre manufacturers, retreaders, tyre dealers, suppliers to the retread industry and tyre repair companies,” said Harvey Brodsky, TRIB’s managing director.

Collmann Joins TRIB

TRIB, the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, reports the addition of German retreading machinery manufacturer Collmann GmbH & Co to its ranks. The Lübeck based company, which began manufacturing buffers and other retread related machinery more than 70 years ago, is today recognised as a world leader in retread and other tyre related machinery.

India’s Sundaram Industries Joins TRIB

Membership numbers at TRIB, the US based Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, are nudging the 500 mark following the joining of India’s Sundaram Industries. The TVS Group company was founded in 1943, and TRIB describes the firm as being one of India’s oldest and largest retreading companies and retreading industry suppliers, a company with a long history of service throughout the country. The company’s products include tread rubber, retreading machinery and retreading accessories.

Venezuelan Retreader Improsa Joins TRIB

Improsa, (Venezuela) has joined the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB), bringing TRIB’s membership to nearly 500 members in 50 countries. “TRIB continues to add members…TRIB is the only international retread industry association representing new tyre manufacturers, retreaders, suppliers to the retread industry and tyre repair companies,” said Harvey Brodsky, TRIB’s managing director.

TRIB, TIA Publish New Retreading Brochure

TRIB and the TIA have jointly published a full-colour, 16-page brochure designed to promote the better understanding of retreading. Including topics such as the safety of retreads and their environmental features, ‘Understanding Retreading’ will show – with illustrations – the six steps of the retreading process. It is available for purchase on request directly from TRIB head, Harvey Brodsky.

India’s Tyresoles Joins TRIB

India’s Tyresoles Pvt Ltd has become the latest international retreader to join the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB), bringing TRIB’s membership to nearly 500 members in 50 countries. The company states it is India’s largest retreading company and has maintained a presence in India since 1947. Tyresoles used both the mould cure and precure processes to retread more than 120,000 tyres per annum. The retreader operates a network incorporating more than 150 dealers in several regions of India.

TRIB Addressses Canadian Parliament, Prime Minister

The following is an open letter to Prime Minister Steven Harper and all members of the Canadian parliament, written July 28 by Harvey Brodsky, managing director of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau:

Dear Prime Minister Harper and all Members of the Canadian Parliament,
The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau is an international non-profit, member owned industry association. I am writing today on behalf of our Canadian members in the tire retread and tire repair industries to bring to your attention the tremendous contribution our members make to both the environment and the economy throughout Canada.
