US retreading association the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau is partnering with the Retread Manufacturers Association to offer a ‘Retread Workshop Practice’ course in the UK, commencing in September 2013. The correspondence based course includes two ‘mock’ exams to monitor progress during the periods of study, extending from September 2013 to May 2014, and a final exam, which can be taken at a local university or technical college.
Two new members have been selected to join the board of directors of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, reports Tire Review. Joining the board as of today are Mel Mitchell, vice president of manufacturing for Colony Tire Corp., and Ken Samborsky, OTR plant operation coordinator for Kal Tire. "Mel and Ken are two great additions to our board and further round out a 16-strong board that fully represents the retread and repair industries," said TRIB President Brian Hayes. "I look forward to working with them on the TRIB board. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank departing members Bob Majewski and Garry Heintschel for their dedication and service to the TRIB board over the years".
US-based retreading advocate the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, or TRIB, has released the results of its passenger car tyre retreading survey. TRIB asked its members around the world several questions on the matter, and the replies it gained indicate that passenger car tyre retreading is viewed as a relatively stagnant business.
Bob Majewski, president of the US-based Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, has reminded all member retreaders of the costs involved in TRIB’s day-to-day operation, and appealed for annual membership dues to be paid – before errant members find themselves out of the loop.
The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau has launched two new video sites on the web, with a dedicated channel on YouTube and its own video section on TRIB's website. Each site contains three videos designed to educate the public, fleet managers, and truckers about the economic and environmental benefits of retreaded tyres as well as correct the misconception that retreaded tyres cause rubber on the road.
The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) has announced plans to increase the size of its current board of directors from 12 to 16 directors. The additional four board positions will be held by three retreading companies and one tyre repair firm. A nominating committee has been formed within TRIB's current board potential nominees are due to be selected in the coming months. The new board members will be elected during TRIB's board meeting in Las Vegas on 31 October 2011.
The first phase of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau’s totally redesigned www.retread.org website has gone live, and offers visitors numerous new features including a full resources section including a retread buyer’s guide, studies regarding retreading, a calendar of industry events and a DOT code searcher. A members-only section provides community-based tools to connect members geographically or through similar product interests.
The Retread Tire Association (RTA), formed following Harvey Brodsky’s departure from the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, reports the addition of another 12 members to its ranks. New member companies include: AME International, Black’s Tire Service, Frasier Tire Service, Jirah Inc., Malerba’s Consulting LLC, Purcell Tire, Tesla Electronics and Tire Stamp, all US-based. New from Canada are Kirk’s Tire and West End Tire, while Earthmover Tyres of Scotland and Makepeace Agencies from Australia also have joined.
Following the occurrence of what it calls as “recent events”, the Tire Industry Association (TIA) has publicly reiterated its “complete, ongoing support” for the Board of Directors, staff, and members of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB). In a letter sent to TRIB, TIA executive vice president Roy Littlefield stated “we know that this has been a time of great change within TRIB, but we are confident that the recent decisions made by the TRIB Board of Directors were reached through a careful, deliberative process and will result in TRIB being an even stronger, healthier organisation that is well-poised to take on the challenges facing the retreading industry.
The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau has moved to a new address, and can now be found at Suite 15, 591 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove, California 93950-2662 USA. All correspondence with the retreading organisation should now be addressed to recently appointed managing director David Stephens at david@retread.org.
While interim TRIB managing director, Marvin Bozarth was writing to the retreading association’s membership introducing himself, his predecessor Harvey Brodsky has been busy forming another association. According to online news reports, Brodsky has formed his own retreading organization. Like TRIB this new association – the Retread Tire Association – is said to be a non-profit, 501(c)(6) entity that is “dedicated to promoting and expanding retreading and proper tyre repairing throughout the world, with no closed doors and no closed meetings.”
The Tire Retread & Repair Bureau of Information will not hold a special membership meeting during the upcoming Global Tire Expo powered by TIA in Las Vegas, reports Tire Review. Former TRIB managing director Harvey Brodsky had announced the meeting on 3 October.
A quote attributed to recently dismissed Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau managing director Harvey Brodsky has been used in a press release announcing his interim successor. In introducing Marvin Bozarth, who will hold the position during the current period of ‘transition’, TRIB president Michael Berra Jr borrowed a line from a Brodsky speech and stated “there is never a wrong time to do the right thing.”
Long-time champion of the retreading industry, Harvey Brodsky, was notified on October 5 that his services as managing director of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau were no longer required. Announcing his own dismissal in a press release, Mr. Brodsky stated that “during a conference call today called by TRIB president Mike Berra, Jr. at 2pm Pacific Time (GMT -7:00), and including Bob Majewski and Wayne Jackson of the TRIB Board, I was informed that today would be my last day as the managing director of TRIB.
Harvey Brodsky, managing director of TRIB, the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, is to appear as a featured speaker at the general assembly of the Italian Tyre Retreaders Association (the Associazione Italiana Ricostruttori Pneumatici, or AIRP) in Rome on October 8 and 9. TRIB says that Brodsky’s presentation will highlight the current situation of the North American retreading industry in comparison with that in Italy and other parts of the world.
