Maxxis Launches New Victra Z4S UHP Tyre

(Akron/Tire Review) Maxxis International USA has introduced the Victra Z4S ultra-high performance tyre, which, Maxxis said, offers handling and traction on wet, dry or snowy surfaces.

The new tyre features a solid centre rib for high-speed stability; silica tread compound for fuel economy and wet and dry traction; reinforced steel belts for high-speed stability and long tread life; multiple snow-biting grooves and “optimal” siping for traction on snowy surfaces; four high-void, circumferential main grooves to expel water; five-pitch tread blocks and two-in-one groove designs for a quiet ride; V-shaped unidirectional grooves for handling on wet and dry roads; Hard bead-filler compound for cornering, acceleration and handling; and reinforced casing and body-ply structure for handling and stability.

Maxxis has Something for Everyone

When it comes to the ATV sector Maxxis believe they can offer a tyre for every application, from the high performance needs of a professional ATV racing series through to the rugged all-rounders that are becoming ever more indispensable to the farming community. And the company’s confidence in its product is not limited to the size of the range it offers – Maxxis also claim that its tyres offer superior puncture resistance and traction on all surfaces, and point to their list of OE customers – which includes Honda, Yamaha and Polaris – as confirmation the widespread acceptance enjoyed by the Maxxis ATV product range.

The Maxxis iRAZR M943(front) and M944 (rear) is reported to be the first all terrain radial to be sold in the UK and features an aggressive centreline and less rounded profile for improved steering and handling capabilities. It was developed especially for motocross racing and is, according to Maxxis, being put through its paces at the top echelons of the sport – something the company has more than just a passing interest in. Indeed, Maxxis has come on board as the new sponsor of Team Green, Kawasaki Motors UK’s successful motocross and Enduro racing initiative, and will supply tyres for a number of up and coming youth riders. It is also supporting KIK Team Honda TRX450R, the official Honda UK ATV motocross team, which has two riders competing in the 2007 British Quad Championship. In overseas markets Maxxis also has a strong presence in the ATV racing scene, sponsoring seven competitive events and numerous riders in the US, including Bill Balance, who won his second straight victory in the West Virginia Snowshoe GNCC ATV race on June 23.

Nexen Shows New N6000

At Autopromotec, Nexen Tire was showing examples of its extensive range of UHP, SUV and winter tyres. One of the company’s latest products is the N6000, which is an ultra high performance summer tyre, designed for drivers of sports cars and sporty coupes, who enjoy the performance of their vehicles. The N6000 will eventually be available in 15 Y- and W-speed rated sizes, for rims from 15″ to 20″ and with aspect ratios from 55 series down to a very low profile 35 series.

Nexen says that an ultra high performance tread compound gives excellent dry traction, while the directional tread design, with its four, wide, straight channels and lateral grooves, provides good wet performance and aquaplaning resistance. Another recent introduction is the H- and V-rated Roadian HP range of tyres for SUVs. Available in 18 sizes, from 65 series to 30 series aspect ratios and rims up to 22″, the Roadian range combines a silica tread compound with a directional tread pattern to provide high performance tyre qualities to luxury SUV drivers.

Michelin Recalls Motorcycle Tyres

Michelin is recalling 120/70 ZR 17 front Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power front motorcycle tyres with “Made in France” markings. According to the company examination of these tyres showed a possible defect in the tread due to a “manufacturing irregularity.” Some 68,000 tyres are expected to be involved in the recall. No cases of pressure loss have been reported and no accidents have occurred.

The tyres in question can be identified by the following sidewall markings: a “Made in France” label; DOT 6UCW 980T or DOT 6UCW 979T. These tyres will no longer be sold by dealers. A special telephone number for consumers has been set up to provide customers with information about the campaign. A Leader in its Field

Goodyear has sold over 700,000 of the Optitrac tyre, making this one of the most popular farm tyre ranges on the market. Goodyear Optitrac first arrived on the European farm scene in 1999, with the introduction of the DT812, 70 series tyre, and was complemented by the DT818, 65 series variant, in 2001. The range was further extended by the introductions of the DT824 volume range, DT830 super volume range and DT800 in row crop sizes. The Optitrac family was further extended at the end of 2004, with the DT806, 85 series tyre, making a total of six products in the range.

In 2006 another family member was launched. Named the Goodyear Optitrac R+, this extended the performance capabilities of the range further, by providing even greater traction and carrying higher loads at speeds over 40 mph. This tyre was designed for the next generation of faster operating, compact, high-performance tractors over 150 hp.

Scottish Haulier Opts for Michelin XDN2 Grip

Lanarkshire-based long distance haulier R Taylor & Sons (Transport) Ltd has fitted Michelin XDN2 Grip tyres onto the drive axle of a 6×2 Volvo FH tractor unit in its fleet. According to a company statement, the fitment has resulted in improved grip.

“The driver finds the Michelin XDN2 Grip tyres to be really beneficial,” says Stuart Coke, Director of R Taylor & Sons. “The entrance to our depot is on a slope, and in the wet weather, the drive axle tyres can spin when pulling away. With the XDN2 Grip tyres fitted, this problem seems to have been eradicated.

“Based on the performance of the tyres over the first 50,000 km, we’ve decided to specify our next two Volvo tractor units with the same Michelin tyres as original equipment,” adds Mr Coke.

Michelin Introduces Light Truck/SUV Tyre to Canadian Market

(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. has introduced its LTXTM A/T2 light truck and SUV tyre. The tyre will be available to Canadian dealers this August in 32 P-metric and LT sizes. According to the tyremaker, the new LTX A/T2 tyre features “aggressive, notched tread blocks and biting edges,” visual styling indicators, Michelin’s “Comfort Control” technology and “Advanced MaxTouch Construction.”

“Drivers who use their light trucks and SUVs for both work and play will especially enjoy the LTX A/T2 tyre,” says Barbara Weber, product manager. “This tyre exceeds the performance of other products on the market by providing both a comfortable and quiet ride on the road, while also delivering increased durability and off-road capabilities.”

Michelin Launches Touring Tyre-Inspired Footwear Line

(Akron/Tire Review) At the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala., Michelin North America (MNA) launched the Michelin Primacy MXV4 touring tyre and a casual footwear line inspired by the new tyre.Developed by Michelin Footwear, a division of Gear Six Technologies, Michelin’s official worldwide licensee for footwear, the MXV4 footwear line is being distributed by IGE 3 Corp., a division of Geoffrey Allen Corp. located in Secaucus, N.J.

Available this autumn in specialty retail stores, the MXV4 line features two outsoles inspired by the tyre-tread sculpture of the Michelin Primacy MXV4 touring tyre. It has full-grain premium leather uppers in variety of different styles.

“The Michelin name stands for innovation, performance and mobility worldwide,” said Tom Costin, president and CEO of Michelin Footwear. “Footwear industry insiders and consumers will continue to see many of Michelin’s popular tyre-tread sculptures creatively captured in footwear outsoles,” added Costin. “When wearing them, it’s easy to recognize the benefits of each sculpture’s design are directly in line with the type of footwear and its performance needs.”

Tyre Smart in Norfolk

Motorists in the coastal town of Great Yarmouth are being offered hands-on advice to make them more safety conscious and, in particular, tyre aware. Technicians at Kingsway Tyres are sharing their expertise at driver awareness evenings in association with First Stop partner Bridgestone. As well as picking up basic maintenance tips, drivers are being taught how to carry out regular checks that can save them money and might even save their lives.

“We’re covering everyday scenarios like how to change a tyre, how to check the tyre tread depth and pressure, and how to check oil levels and water levels – things we all ought to really know about, but often don’t,” said Mark Buckenham, manager of Kingsway Great Yarmouth. “The evenings are hands-on, but relaxed. One of the key elements of the course is that motorists get to practice on their own car to make them feel more comfortable should a problem arise. The focus is simply making them better prepared rather than expert mechanics.”

Latest Ringtread Technology Shown off at Opening of New Plant

Pennsylvania based Bergey’s Tire Service celebrated the grand opening of their newly remodelled retreading facility on May 11. The company had spend the previous six months upgrading the Perkasie plant to improve quality, efficiency and to upgrade their equipment to the latest Marangoni retreading technology. New state of the art equipment, from inspection to curing, include the addition of the Marangoni ITT Sfera Shearographic inspection machine, a Marangoni 2500 buffer, the latest in building technology in the Marangoni Ringbuilder 3000, the modular AZ cushion extruder and builder combination, and the latest Cure-Tech curing chambers.

The company signed on as part of the Marangoni Ringtread network in June 2006, and at that time Bergey Tire president Duane Bergey stated “In an effort to maintain our professional independence and provide the best product to our fleet customers, we have decided to grow our business with Marangoni Tread North America. We have been producing the Ringtread retreads for four years at our plant in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, and it distinguishes us from our competitors. We feel Marangoni is the best partner for our future.”

New Touring Tyre from Michelin North America

Michelin North America has released a new addition to its range of offerings for luxury vehicles – the Primacy MXV4 touring tyre. Intended as a replacement for an existing tyre with the same name, the new Primacy MXV4 is available in 32 sizes, ranging from 185/65R15 to 225/60R18 in H-speed rating, and 195/60R15 to 245/45R18 in V-speed rating.

According to Michelin, the new tyre features a unique shape and design that provides long lasting and even tread wear and a tread that reduces vibration and road noise. “The new Michelin Primacy MXV4 tyre delivers an unprecedented and uncompromising combination of benefits that significantly boosts wear life without sacrificing handling performance for a wide spectrum of automobiles and driving styles,” claim Michelin officials said. The new tyre is intended for the North American market only and not available in the UK or Europe.

RMA Issues Service Bulletin on Used Tyres

(Akron/Tire Review) The Rubber Manufacturers Association has issued a Tire Information Service Bulletin to address used tyres. The bulletin applies to used tyres with uncertain use, maintenance and storage histories, the RMA said.

According to the bulletin, these tyres pose a potential risk, as they may have been damaged by improper service, maintenance or storage conditions. RMA has developed a list of characteristics that dealers should refer to when considering selling used tyres. According to the association, used tyres should not be sold or installed if they exhibit:

Avon Offers to Keep Performance Cars Cool With Winter Products

Avon Tyres has expanded its cold-weather programme with the addition of new sizes to fit a broad variety of popular high performance cars and 4x4s. Introduced to tackle the precarious driving conditions motorists face from November onwards, the Ice Touring ST and the Ranger Ice have been introduced for high performance saloon cars and 4x4s, respectively.

The Ice Touring ST’s specially-engineered tread pattern is designed to deliver grip and handling in winter temperatures. Its high silica content, together with extensive siping, helps keep the tread blocks flexible at very low winter temperatures, which aids grip in the wet and traction in the snow. Wide spacing of the tread blocks also helps prevent the tread clogging up with snow.

New Wanli UHP to Hit the Market

(Akron/Tire Review) St. Louis-based Zisser Tire has introduced the Wanli S-1089 ultra-high performance tyre. According to Wanli Performance Tire, Zisser’s marketing arm for the line, the new Wanli S-1089’s tread a large serrated center rib for lateral stability and wet traction, and directional tread blocks.

Wanli Performance Tire said the new product is “engineered for comfort and performance in large diameter applications.” The W-rated tyre will be available in nine sizes covering 20- to 24-inch applications, as well as one in size 305/30R26. The tyre, which will be available in late June, said the company, will carry a UTQG of 280AA, and will be covered by Zisser’s free replacement warranty.

Kwik-Fit Uses Mobile Phone Technology

Kwik-Fit has begun using digital pens and mobile phone technology to provide an improved fleet service. The move sees Kwik-Fit Mobile’s tyre inspectors deliver report results electronically to a control centre at the end of each day. Each report, which is logged in the digital pen, is sent immediately on completion by inspectors via their mobile phone using both Bluetooth and GPRS technology to the control centre. This means the replacement of damaged or illegal tyres, can be carried out much quicker than previously.

Kwik-Fit Mobile operations director Simon Lucas said: “On receipt of the information the control centre can then contact a car driver immediately to arrange the time and location of any work to be carried out. The technology also means that we can source any tyres that are required immediately, which enables any work to be undertaken within 24 hours.
